one of the more interesting responses

Do you think Nintendogs can reach the level of success it has reached in Japan? And what are your plans to market the title – do you think the game will sell systems, such as to who aren’t very into gaming?

We have shown previews of Nintendogs to every conceivable demographic, and the universal response has been: “I want one.” A few weeks ago we showed it off to music magazines, women’s magazines, sports magazines and tween magazines in New York, and it elicited responses from amazement to instant infatuation. Who doesn’t love a puppy? We’re confident Nintendogs will become a real crossover pop-culture phenomenon through the holidays...

If that is what they expect, then surely this will be the biggest title of the holidays even outdoing their flagship Twilight Princess...

Unless those magazines that NoA has shown it to does some major coverage I really doubt Nintendogs will be pulling in the non-gamer the way it did in Japan. I can see it doing well with current gamers but I have my doubts about other people.

Nintendogs will not do well here unless the Pink DS comes out around the same time for all the ladies and real Pimp Playaz :)

Drinky Crow must also buy a copy for it to do well here.

oh yeah no freaken marketing in the US

Oh my god, this must be the most definitive example of Jedi Master mind control

Nintendo will release more information soon.
are always possible
I think we’ll all see a decisive answer to your question after
We can’t announce any specifics right now
rest assured
we’re always looking for ways to provide users with new and exciting experiences
watch for more details about
Anything is possible!
one of the options we’re considering

There is no doubt in my mind that Nintendogs will be a major hit in the US, but where is the marketing blitz? The game months out in a little more than a month and we haven't heard much mainstream coverage. They need to get out there and show people this thing. Also it would be smart to launch new DS colors (including pink) when it is released.

After E3, several of the downloadable DS games showed up on the Internet for download. What is Nintendo’s position on this? Will Nintendo consider releasing downloadable demos themselves through Wi-Fi connection?

Nintendo is an industry leader in tracking and prosecuting piracy around the world, whether in the form of counterfeit discs and cartridges or someone else offering our games on the Internet. Players already can send one another wireless demos of games using DS Download Play. Wi-Fi demos are one of the options we’re considering for Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

what a shit statement.

Stop the bandits from playing your demos quick!

nintendogs can be a huge hit if Nintendo advertises it on magazines like Seventeen or something. That, and by launching a pink and white DS to go with it.

I have been making fun of Nintendogs with my friends since it was announced. That being said....I will still buy it, the Siberian Husky version. And I will name my dog Reggie and train him to "Kick Ass" and "Take Names"

I really don't think Nintendogs will be that successful here. Then again, who'd have though it would sell as much as it has in Japan?

However, IF Nintendogs is a success in the US, Nintendo might just have their most successful holiday season ever of portable sales, with the Micro selling the GBA line and Nintendogs and Mario Kart selling the DS line.

Then again, there's also GTA coming out for the PSP in time for the holiday season.

It should be a VERY interesting holiday season for the handheld market.

Good thing we're talking about a very fun game!

But ugh, Perrin sucks so fucking much. She doesn't even dodge questions well.

Mainstream magazines really won't start to cover Nintendogs until the game is released. I'm not sure how well it will do...it will be a huge hit or bomb hard, no inbetween.

Nintendogs comes out a few days before the Minnesota State Fair starts up, which is a pretty huge event. It'll be interesting to see if my dog encounters any other dogs while I'm walking around during the few days I'll be there.

Make a list of the functions that are most important to you and take a look at the software and features that will be available before the end of the year. Nintendogs will be huge. Mario Kart DS and Animal Crossing DS will let you play with friends far away over Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. Nintendo DS gives you the most functions and the best games and experiences at an affordable price.
Will Animal Crossing DS really make it to America before the year's end? Japan I can see, but America seems doubtful. It took forever for the Gamecube version to get here.

I think the online launch could be simultaneous in the US and Japan, just to reinforce how it can connect people on other sides of the world. They may be developing the Japanese and English versions side-by-side.

Perrin Kaplan annoys me more than anyone in the gaming industry mainly because she doesn't answer any questions with a straight answer and the ones she does are usually bad news that no one wants to hear.

I emailed Nintendo to fire her one day and I got a not so nice sounding tone answer :lol

Do you worry about the PSP cutting into the DS’ potential market share, or do you still consider the PSP and DS reaching out to two different markets?

Hard-core tech players generally will own both systems. For others it depends on what appeals to them most.
that's the most honest thing she said all interview, the rest was all some serious non-answering

I'm betting the PSP / GTA will sell like hotcakes. Probably will trounce everything except the 360. Too bad, cause I think Nintendogs could be the next Pokemon. No one will notice though-they'd rather kill policemen and pick up hookers:(

I seriously think you doubters have underestimated Nintendogs. When you play it, you will realize this is the next damn Pokemon. I was a doubter at first, but then I imported it just for the hype. I was pleasantly suprised. Wait til your dog fights too, it's sweet. I could seriously see this as a "gotta own them all!" game. Once you play it, no matter if you personally dislike it, you'll see what they're talking about when they say mass appeal.

But a recent interview with the ACDS creators said that people couldn't meet eachother unless their game used the same alphabet, so Japanese and English versions most likely won't be able to communicate.

GTA sales and Nintendogs sales more than likely won't hurt each other. :P

It doesn't take a marketing genius to realize that Nintendogs should be launching with the pink DS. I don't understand why NOA is so stupidly slow at everything. It's a global economy, just grab what's in japan and release it here.

It could be that they don't want to pigeonhole the game as one for girls, not unlike how they did with the indigo Gamecube.

i really don't see the selling power of GTA like some here do. PSP likely won't receive a price drop this year, and as it is it's too expensive for a portable in many people's eyes. GTA on PS2 sold as well as it did due to content, as well as the fact that the PS2 userbase was in the double digits (IIRC) at the time of its release. PS2 also had the fallback of DVD playback. The movie and music playback of the PSP are great, but require PSP-geared purchases of UMDs and Memory Sticks to take advantage of them.

On the other hand, i see Nintendogs being a definite sleeper, for many of the same reasons posted here like the collection and communication aspects. i doubt it'll compare to Pokemon in the long run, but with appeal that crosses gender lines and a definte charm, it's almost a gauranteed hit.

True - this is the only way 'N' shall prove themselves...

I think this has potential to do huge - But it depends on how communicated the concept is ..... People in Japan dig mysterious minimalism advertisement - it intices them.
But here... we need shit spoon-fed to us.

not to throw anecdotle evidence about - but I know of many people that wanted nothing to do with the game (outside of that little shock-value interest) ----- But as soon as I show them a video, and they see the little mo-cap puppies, they go out and get DS's

At this point, I don't think anyone should be doubting Nintendogs. If Pokémon does 5 katrillion billion in the US for something like Emerald, Nintendogs has a great chance to do well in my opinion.

Yes. Nintendogs is going to do well, but if Nintendo advertises everything right, Nintendogs is really going to explode. :lol

Nintendo's marketing of Pokemon was crazy. I think they got the mayor of Topeka, Kansas to rename it Topikachu, Kansas for a day, and they air dropped Pokemon stuff.

I think its a fail. Why would they launch a game at the END of summer holidays. That is the worst time to launch a game. Parents have to pay for new clothes and school fees. I don't think $30 dog simulator and $150 game machine are going to go over well for parents on a budget.

Same deal with university students. Tuition, books, food, rent >>> dog simulator, NDS.

Why did they wait this long? They should have flip-flopped with Meteos or Kirby. Even TV shows don't start up until the fall. I though this would have been perfect for Desperate Housewives.

So unless they are advertising heavily in Vogue, grocery store tabloids, or whatever middle aged women read/watch, this is just going to be another game bought by mostly hardcore male nintendo gamers.

You should join NOA's marketing team. :lol

GB Micro was made to attract a wider audience that if funny Reggie Fils-Aime said it was aimed at the 11 to 15 year old crowd in a recent interview.
