Jez: Microsoft may be working on Xbox (360 etc.) emulation technology for Xbox Ally and other Windows devices.

If they need to work out deals with publishers and as Jez says himself, it won't be all games, then nobody will be eating crow.

It's not about only getting the most popular games; when you start looking at it only from that perspective is how we start losing access and source code to so many games, and end up losing big chunks of gaming history. This stuff should be seen as preservation efforts first & foremost, and in that context every game that was ever made should count.

It's also about having respect for gaming as an artform; preserving access to all games no matter how small or niche, should always be expected.
Nobody gives a shit about "preserving access to all games" including Microsoft who stopped adding games to BC years ago.

yeah right whatever GIF
I haven't seen the movie.

Did monkeys fly out of his butt?

Lots of PC ports don't have good joypad support or sometimes no joypad support. That's important for a lot of folks.
Definitely is. They were also often than not worse ports in other areas too.

Good luck playing Condemned 1 on PC with a controller and non glitchy shadows and graphical effects.

Yeah, but iirc there was another rumor of some kind of name created MS called like "Xbox Legacy Titles" as a service stuff, so they probably would ask you to pay monthly a subscription to play these games (if these other rumors are to be believed ofc), and seeing how Microsoft is obsessed with making you pay for monthy to keep playing I dont think this is too unlikely to be untrue, sadly.

Why would anyone sane play Condemned with a controller??
It's a slow first person game that was made for console.

I played all my FPS games on K&M back in the 90s, but I just can't be bothered with that noise today.

My PC is rigged up to my TV. I can play in comfort on my couch with a controller.

I don't want, or need super fast and twitchy camera movement in a horror game. I also don't want to play on a 27" OLED monitor that is vastly inferior to my 65" TV.

I just recently replayed the game via Xenia emulator, and it was awesome. The Darkness too.

What noise??

What noise??
The noise of having to sit forward on a desk chair with my arms and fingers on a K&M. Compared to the simplicity of sitting on a couch with a good TV and a controller I can use in any position.

Some things are just less cumbersome, and more suited to a controller. I don't even play games without my Dualsense any more on PC.

If there's an old game I wish to replay that doesn't have controller support, or really poor workarounds, I'll wait for Nightdive to make a remaster, or I'll find the console version.

I did it recently with Deus Ex. Sure the PS2 version was stripped back in level design, but I was happy to play that version again with a controller than sit at my desk.

Why would you have to sit on a desk?? I use K&M laying on a mattress. And how the hell you put your ARMS on K&M?? It's only the fingers, wtf!

On a mattress? I'm not in a hospital mate. I'm in a house with a nice living room, an expensive couch, and big TV.

Not sure what you're getting at, but I'll say one thing. Some people just prefer the easiness of using a controller. I don't want to use a K&M on my couch.

I am not in a hospital too but I can easily use K&M with couch, mattress. 🤷‍♂️

Almost all of Microsoft's first party modern Xbox library is cross compatible with this device out of the box...and there's more to come.

What about the 90%+ games that aren't 1P?

It having the ability to do it is great. Figuring out the licensing is the actual problem.

Thats why the previous back-compat program died out, they got as many agreements as they could and then found it wasn't worth the effort anymore.

Face it Xbros, MS is just maneuvering to cut bait and leave your libraries at least partially stranded on defunct hardware. They're doing it slowly and relatively carefully but sometime in the next 2 years you're going to wake up to a press release or video that tells you how you're being fucked over and excitedly explains as to why that's a good thing. It will not be presented by Sarah Bond or Big Philly-Style Spencer, just another unfortunate intern -- probably a black woman to help deflect the rage.

Jez knows about licensing too, so I choose to think he's being a useful tool for MS to achieve their aims.

Well, it is true that Jez is basically a public figurehead for Xbox, used for crowd control and herding the sheep to fall in line. Same with Parris, same with Colteastwood and Tom Warren, and Destin.

They're like the Power Rangers if they were all middle-aged men, lame, and ate grass for dinner because the color reminds them of Xbox.

I give a shit, for preservation's sake and having the chance to discover cool hidden gems that would've been lost to history otherwise. Lots of other gamers care.

Microsoft should care, because it's one of the few things they have left to garner goodwill with their remaining Xbox diehards. If they can't get OG Xbox & 360 BC working on Windows-based Next Xbox devices, they'll be dead in the water.
