Common sense suggests the latter. What could they do to the current SP model? Install Play-Yan functionality as standard, add wireless and online middleware? Then remember this point: No dev kits have been shipped. It has to use old software, meaning either GameCube or current GBA. Would people really stump up for what would essentially be a DS without the DSs functionality? A new GBA with downloadable content?Chittagong said:

I find the GBA2 thing very hard to believe. After all the time it's taken them to go online, why would they take the spotlight off the DS at the event where they launch their online service? It would also damage DS sales, and therefore sales for the online DS games that have yet to be released! Plus I think it's highly unlikely that a GBA2 will play GC games for various reasons.
E3 will be about Zelda, DS online play, and probably some Revolution teaser stuff. I'm not expecting anything more than that really.

i also don't think rev is going to show up in ANY form, hell it's almost 2 years from retail, since when has nintendo ever showed a console that early out at e3? i don't remember how early they talked about n64, but it also had a delay in the launch, so that might have had something to do with it showing up or talking about it early.

Nintendo knows all of their cards months before we will see anything. They'll have seen the MTV ad and all the announcements made by the competition before E3.
I found it interesting of the Perrin Kaplan comment, in that it definitely showed that theyre reading boards like GAF for reader predictions....

There's no way Nintendo could update the already archaic SP again. All they could add is a backlight screen and some MPG/MP3 playback functionality. But I don't see how that would attract people away from the far superior PSP product in terms of mulitmedia.
I hope this GBA2 uses the new mobile chipset ATi has been working on for Nintendo.

Am I the only guy who wasn't certain Revolution's key features would be shown anyway? It seemed quite likely given Nintendo's argument that increased specs and graphical power isn't enough, but then Nintendo's extreme secrecy and paranoia goes against that.
The only thing I am expecting (as Nintendo actually have said this I think) is that Revolution will be there in some form. And tech demos would count when I say that, I don't mean the actual system, though I suppose that's a possibility.

im all for a portable gc but how the hell they're going to create a disk drive small enough but at the same time be able to eat those mini dvd's, yes they're mini but still big for a portable device i think......

I've always rather enjoyed Perrin Kaplan's videointerviews at IGN.com. You have to watch the woman - she knows what she's saying and she does it better than Reggie imo. Very skilled/diplomatic and funny.

See I'd be perfectly happy with that. I'd be happy with it at a normal E3, but with all the other next gen stuff this year, it's kind of nice to have more announcements to look forward to after it's over.
Though even if you've reliably been told that, I wouldn't necessarily put too much faith in it. I remember at some show, either E3 or Space World, Miyamoto actually had the Metroid demo on him, but they'd pulled it at the very last second when someone told him that if they showed it all that would be talked about in a roundtable would be Metroid.
