Don't you "bzzt" me. EP is a direct outgrowth and continuation of IS; it makes sense how it contrasts with its predecessor by switching focus to the adult members of the cast, but it doesn't change the concept behind the series as a whole. Certainly after EP they could've decided to go in a different direction with the series, but by introducing the scheduling and S-Links P3 really doubled down on the school setting element; trying to move away now makes much less sense.

and expected people to believe it was real?

I don't think they expected anyone to think it was real, it says "fanmade music" on every video. (And that particular one cites Tom's Diner in the video description.)

Some of the fanmade music is actually pretty decent (I love that battle theme). I just hope they take more risks with P5, not just with the school setting and music, but also in tone.

A cast between the ages of 17 - 40 would be so sweet. My mind goes wild with the potential of S-Links, social interactions, and contrasts in maturity between them. But you're probably right, it wouldn't really be Persona without demonic high school hijinks.

I don't think there's anything wrong with having a mix of characters, either, but that that youthful aspect is really thematically central. Even Persona 2 has this theme of youthful identity and the growth of one's true self vs. one's presented persona at the core of its story -- very different in tone from SMT which tends to be about self-assured characters making these grand, external philosophical decisions.

So, yeah, I wouldn't mind seeing them play around with the structure quite a bit, especially to mix up the cast and include more well-developed adults -- Dojima is an amazing character in P4 and his relationship to the MC is fantastic -- but I think having young people at the center is really necessary for a series that's about navigating identity.

I've never played Persona 4 (because I didn't like Persona 3), but if this comes to the US, I might have to get a Vita to try it out.

Yeah, I didn't like 3 very much either. I had played Persona 1 and 2:EP and thought that although the stories and characters were cool, the combat was tedious and boring. In 3, I played for about 15 hours and was very bored with it - also, you can't control your characters.

Then I played 4, and damn it was so fun. It wasn't only what I thought was the best of the series that I had played, it was one of the best JRPGs that I've ever played. After beating it, I went back and played 3:FES.

The characters in 4 really did it for me I suppose, but also some of the arbitrary obstacles that were in 3 are no longer around. Just be ready for some very lengthy dialogue scenes.

Even though 4 is better in a lot of ways, I still prefer 3 as an experience overall, because it definitely reinvented the wheel in some very needed ways.

I knew when that promo image was unveiled(with the MC and Thanatos bounding over the desks), that it was brave new world time.

Wait, This OST is really freaking well made, who puts all this time into a prank? why not just release an album and get all the credit, you put all this work in anyway. Is there a story I am missing out on here?

The tracks (or at least a bunch of them) are taken from other stuff.

So make the player characters the teachers. The main can be a recent graduate on his first assignment. You keep the "I'm new here / at a transition point in my life" element that works well for the main character, but give a chance to deal with more adult relationships and problems.

That said, I think that if they could get away from the school setting, they could do really well making the main character a newly-hired reporter at a newspaper. It would make it a lot easier to believably involve the character with the plot if they're investigating some crime/paranormal occurrences as a reporter rather than as a high school student.

That game doesn't take place at a newspaper, though, it just takes a reporter and puts her at a school with a bunch of students. I was thinking something more along the lines of a videogame version of Tokyo Vice.

That's pretty damn cool; however, I feel that there is an element of being a "cipher" of sorts when it comes to your character in these new Persona games. Maybe the option to choose career would be best? Well, also take into consideration that part-time jobs are neat and provide variety to your money/SLink making.

Hmmm, I think that newbie college student is the way to go and can still fulfill most adult frontiers.

Listening to that mock OST, which has a good deal of laid-back pop/rock/hip-hop and ethereal, nocturnal jazz pieces, as well as looking at all of that monochrome artwork in the videos, gave me the idea of a P5 based on dreams. Particularly how dreams relate to reality, and all of the hopes, doubts, ambitions and illusions that occur inbetween. If not that, then at least something darker and more "adult" than P3 and P4, perhaps about something like vices, disillusionment, or mercy.

Idk, just rambling. ¯\(º_o)/¯

You want to live among the scum of the earth for a decade, finally getting a grip on humanity by befriending a hooker with a heart of gold, then letting her get raped, tortured and killed because of your mistake, being forced out of the country, putting the lives of your friends at risk and ruining your marriage?

AND BEING FUCKING VALIDATED WHEN THE TITANS CRUMBLE

Sign me up.

Izanagi is my favorite persona design, and that poster is pretty sweet.

On the topic of what setting/age range the next game should have:
After mulling it over, I'm much more interested in what this team wants to make than what I think would work. I think at this point we can give them the benefit of the doubt that they will choose a theme/setting/age group that they can execute well.

I just wish there was anything to go off of. Even a render or piece of concept art would be nice to see and get a vibe for what tone they plan to go with.
On a lighter note.

Great interview with the godfathers of Megaten, and Persona.
Thanks for the link, this interview is great.

Atlus and Arc are doing another location test for Persona 4: The Ultimate in Mayonaka Arena February 16th (today) through the 22nd.

Get hype people! Hopefully we'll get some new info/vids this time! :D

Akihiko over Junpei makes sense to me. Akihiko actually knows how to fight, so to speak. Pray for DLC/expansions!

Lack of Minato and Bropei is a crime. :(
I must be one of the few that absolutely had no connection to P3's MC. I don't see the appeal. I didn't like his design, either.
