Yeah, excatly. I've heard more "this looks amazing, but i've never played or even heard of persona until now, where should i start?" in the past 24 hours than i ever have.

Yes, same here! I'm a little jealous of those people, too. They have a handful of good, long games to play for the first time while they wait for this one.

I think them showing the Velvet room was a big hint at things to come but can;t really put my finger on it:

*****P3/4 ending spoilers*****

In Persona 3 the Velvet room is an ascending elevator. Its ascension mirrors how the SEES slowly climb up Tartarus and there's one point where the elevator stops ascending and the doors open: when Minato creates the Universe Arcana and uses it to seal Nyx. Elizabeth says that "those who set foot in the Velvet Room are bound to be on a quest in search for themselves". Bearing in mind that Minato could only use the Universe Arcana with the strength of the bonds he had made on this ascension, perhaps by the end of the game he does discover what he truly wants or the purpose of his life: to protect the people he holds dearly.

In Persona 4 the Velvet room is a cruising limousine, driving through the fog. Once again this reflects the events in the outside world in P4. There is one point where Igor says the fog is starting to clear which could suggest that Yu is getting close to the truth. I don;t know much on P4 compared to P3 but maybe there's a similar thing here as well.

Finally in Persona 5 the Velvet room is a prison. This could symbolise the way certain things in society try and "lock" people down on the decisions they make or the lifestyles they have. The logical end for the MC would therefore be the unlocking of said gates but I'm not too sure how this translates in reality.

Wha?

The game starts with from the perspective of a new player, a cutscene where you see Yukari pointing a gun at herself in an attempt to commit suicide. The MC walks past everyone frozen into coffins. First day arrives and during the first night of action there are folks melting into black goo while standing in pools of blood and all that

I dunno how that's not dark... >_>

I feel like persona 3 starts off with a very dark tone but ultimately feels more like a fantasy/fictional setting after the setup that sort of makes it easier to accept. Persona 3 does cover darker themes later on which might edge it out as being darker. Persona 4 setting and town felt more down to earth and the opening feels more realistic if you will, which makes it seem darker or more believable. Of course it still goes into persona mode but the themes still feel more tied to things that happen in the real world.

So i do think persona 3 is a bit more darker but i felt persona 4 had the better balance of fantasy mix with real world events. Ultimately i liked the different tone and themes in each and i'm glad to see persona 5 seem to be following that trend.

I would agree with that because i feel in this persona the meaning of justice will be a bit gray. I feel the gang will be fighting to find their own justice and what that means. I feel the velvet room as a jail is symbolizing the MC and crew as law breakers in their world's sense of justice as while as maybe the persona world too. Maybe the MC and crew have to serve the velvet room as punishment to right a wrong they have committed knowingly or unknown to them.

I some questions on how the P5 velvet room works too. How the MC enters and exits the velvet room is something I've been thinking about as well.

Saw this posted to Lotus Juice's fan page on Facebook! :lol

Whats next? Lady Gaga singing the main song of the game?

Oh yeah, In P4 the limo reflected his journey and even in one moment stopped since the fog was so dense that they could not see the road, reflecting the fact that they were having trouble to find the culprit...

I would not be surprised that as you advance in the game you lose some of the chains that trap you and in the end receive a key to open the cell =P

I remember when it was pretty commonly theorized Marie was being set-up as the new proprietor of The Velvet Room. It makes sense that in a game about breaking free of tradition and social constructs, Atlus would do the unexpected and keep Igor (I'm assuming he's been recast).

I'm pretty thrilled to see the twins. One of those good ideas you're surprised you didn't think of yourself.

I wonder if you never go beyond the bars the cell and if Igor is too far to do much of the talking so you only really interact with the twins.

The cell thing I'm guessing is that your destination will simply to get out of it. In P3 the Velvet Room is an Elevator and in P4 it's a Limousine going through fog. In both they represent the theme of the games really well and here we have the Velvet Room as a jail cell in a game about emancipation and constriction.

I think the destination is being freed from the cell and the path the MC takes will decide whether he gets out of it or not. What he perceives as doing what's good, what he perceives as yelling out he's free might not be what is necessary and Igor and the twins will guide him yet again on his path, this time one of finding freedom from constriction, from being between a rock and a hard place as Hashino said.

Also, I can't help but feel a major clue was given with the "Persona summoning" Sound-Effect playing after the main character goes up in flames at the end of the trailer.

i think people in general agree that they turn into their persona when summoned.

It's possible, but I don't think it'll be the case. The way he's presenyed in the trailer, Atlus is very in your face (literally) about his return.

Edit: Hurt Me Soul <3

Funny enough, I could see that being a song the characters connect with, haha.

Lasers? Come on now, fam.

I find it kind of odd that Igor is still in - Isn't it usually tradition in Japan to retire a character if their Seiyu dies rather than recast? I always get the impression that this was a really big deal, especially after half of 2Chan with a 360 threw a massive shitfit over Master Chief's Jp voice actor being re-cast in Halo 4.

Maybe they'll just reuse sound bytes from previous games and have the velvet room attendants say everything else.

i'd throw my shit if they'd dump igor for such a stupid reason. it's not like this is the first time one of his JP voice actors died anyway

Following that link, is she actually now called "Anne"? Or is it still unclear? I don't understand the world anymore.

That was from a little after the trailer was released. So nothing definitive but it makes the most sense, especially if she's actually Caucasian in origin or a foreigner in Japan.

Really hope this gets cross-save. Only have a PS3 ATM, and might end up getting this again after I buy myself another PS4 and a PS4 copy following the inevitable pricedrop.

I mean, this is my only regret from selling my PS4 in favor of WiiU XBX hypetrain. And barely since it's crossgen.

Agree. I can see myself playing through the PS3 version first, then getting a PS4 half a year later and starting a new game+ on PS4, with better visuals for added motivation.

110 pages in a day and a half. Jesus. The hype is real. (I don't want to hear from the 100-posts-per-page patrol.)

I'm desperate for more info. Can't wait for that Famitsu.
