Persona 5 New Trailer

You don't believe P5 could have that kind of effect?

In today's world where console JRPGs are almost as good as dead, than this game comes along.

I think it's very possible. Sony just needs to be aggressive with the marketing like they did for FF7.

Ignoring all our hype for a minute... Your statement is very true. The sad part is this could be the injection of interest RPG's need right now. It is up to Sony and Sega to make this advertising push.

Will save these quotes for when you guys eat crow! :P

If Persona 5 gets good marketing from Sony, I have no doubt it will be the modern day FF7.

There is no chance that Sony markets this game to the degree that FF7 was marketed. It's just not going to happen.

And even if it did, we are probably never going to have another JRPG as successful in the west as FF7. JRPG popularity in the late 90s to early 2000s was a bubble, and we're never going to see another mainstream JRPG success on that level again.

But that's fine, Atlus doesn't need to sell 9 million copies to make good games.

No. It's clearly doing nothing new and innovative nor is it setting a new standard.

It's great and that's just fine.

I rather like the camera work outside of battle. The scenes of the Protag walking across a train station with the crowd in the background, when he gets with chalk from the teacher in the distance (and having the chalk bounce towards the camera!) and when he bounces from cover-to-cover (with paint splashes on the screen?) They feel a lot more dynamic than anything I remember from P3/P4. Makes a world of difference for me. Also, that scene on the bridge where the 3 characters are hanging out and the 2d portraits flash across the screen. Good stuff.

Also, I thought Igor was wearing sunglasses for a second, and that excited me, and then devastated me when he opened his eyes, but Igor sportin' some shades would be baller.

Yeah. I might be asking for too much for this, but I'd also like devs to see a non-indie game can be sold and loved without having the AAA budget

FFVII style success or not, I just want the game to be well noticed in a western audience. I don't want Sony to completely ignore it as if it were Guilty Gear Xrd, or for the marketing to generally be pretty poor.

Going over the designs, I love the blonde guy and the junko looking girl(people are nuts if you can't see the similarities) a lot. The cat is adorable.

Mmm, I guess they are similar in that both are fashionable-looking girls sporting twin-tails. However, there is quite a lot of that type of a character that Junko is not what came to mind when I see Anne.

Right. I just don't want this game to be compared to the most successful JRPG of all time, and one of the most influential video games of all time.

Very true.

Please Sony take notice and push this game like no tomorrow like what WWE is trying to do with Roman Reignas (only there would be cheering and no boos in this case :P).

It was one of the games they mentioned on stage at PSX, although it was just to say that it'll becoming to the PS3 and PS4 this year. But I think it says a lot that they'd even put it in that show just to say what we really already knew. So I definitely expect them to help it out.

Plus look around gaming sites. It seems like pretty much all major sites are excited about it. It's definitely not going to be ignored here.

It is funny you mention Guilty Gear XRD. Sony had an amazing opportunity with that game to separate themselves from the XboxOne by establishing this niche title. Yes it is a fighting game (A great one by the way) but Mortal Kombat X is coming for both platforms and Sony could have really nailed home that with Guilty Gear fighting game fanatics have a home with them.

Yes I am aware that Killer Instinct is on XboxOne. But seriously Guilty Gear is an amazing franchise and Sony just sat on the hype and didn't really express the excitement of its release that it deserved.

I remember also seeing Gamespot releasing the trailer almost the second it ended on the stream.

IGN is even mentioning it next to freaking Halo in whatever their next discussion video airs. This game is for sure above niche levels.

The PSX mention for Persona 5, without them actually having anything to show for it, is definitely a stand out example of Sony's potential desire to market that game, yeah. That does make me think it won't be ignored by them in NA.

I didn't think about gaming sites themselves, but sure. When Persona 5 news comes out, it's reported on and they are indeed excited for the game.

Heh, "Perosna5", yes. Seeing Persona 5 being frequently mentioned next to way bigger titles is so cool.

You must believe!

Also, when was the last time consoles got a competent JRPG? Aside from Xenoblade, only VC comes to mind.

It's not about consoles getting a competent JRPG, FF7 was a cultural phenomena that basically made the west care for JRPGs. While I'm happy to see Persona's continued growth and popularity ever since P4 became a hit, I highly doubt any JRPG will impact the industry the way FF7 did.

Regardless, after a long ass day of work, seeing this has made me elated. It's been a long time since I've been this excited over a game. The last game I've been "Hyped" for was Final Fantasy Versus XIII, and well... Final Fantasy XV looks cool but you really can't blame me for being less excited after almost a decade of waiting.

The wait for P5 has also been a bit taxing but I'm just happy to see people are enjoying the series as much as I have.

loving it; Persona 5 is my most anticipated game outside of bloodborne. Hopefully it comes out at the end of this year or the start of next.

You have to play Persona 3 (PS2 version) if you remotely liked P4G. It's really not that different. The older titles are a bit tough to get into (especially Persona 1).

I highly doubt that we'll get a Vita version of the game - just from a technical standpoint. The visuals, amount of people on the screen etc. would require a pretty hefty downgrade and a lot of work and resources... maybe Atlus thinks that the Vita remote play function is enough. Who knows.

Akiba Strip was on the Vita right? I haven't played it, but I think that had a lot of people on screen too.

The fact that it's only April 11th, and MC and his friends are already planning heists, hanging out with Morgana, going to dungeons, makes me wonder if they already had their Personas and know about Demons before the game's story starts. Going off the slight chance the game starts April 11th, when it could probably start April 5 or something and MC is already used to this stuff.

Also MC's daytime Persona looks so meek and cautious yet he goes to a juvenile school. I wonder what he did that made him go there.

I knew this game was gonna be good but holy fuck, that trailer was all kinds of ridiculous. Looks better than I ever could of imagined.

I was skeptical of this game because I found Persona 1 very boring. 3 and 4 were solid but ultimately forgettable games, the trailer sold me on this though. It's time to get my hype on!

Plus I'm loving all the Persona 2 influence, that peaks my interest further. (Though I have yet to play the 2 duology.)

So, the main character wears a cloak, has a persona with a top hat, and uses knives as his main weapon?

Hmmm, gee, who else had those things?

Oh yes, Jack the Ripper.

So, instead of dissecting the trailer to find stuff people haven't found yet, people decided to do the dumb "P5xFF" discussion... And I thought Xenoblade threads were starting to get bad. I hope they don't show any character with cleavage, that would make future threads unbearable.

Anyway, I hope Gamexplain still makes an Analysis video after the discussion, they're one of the few people still making them.

Forgettable? Your cray cray.

OH and I have it on good authority that this gal loves Persona 4

Bit late for that.

Wow. That's terrible. They get so many things wrong and gloss over so much of it. Poor showing Gamexplain. Might as well not have put anything out.

Clickbait gonna clickbait.

Perhaps they will fix it. But I have a feeling a lot of crap like this is going to be posted for the next few days.
