I started going for the platinum but decided to wave it off. I absolutely adore this game and I'd rather my final experiences with it not be tainted by trying to farm the fucking Passionate Listener trophy lol.

Question?

So I've been bumpin life will change and last surprise a lot in my car lately. Which is weird because it's usually only rap or podcast so I really fucking love these songs. Anyway what I'm getting at is does anyone know who sings them, would love to check her out. Does her other stuff have this kind of tone or no?

Man, I was really looking forward to getting the trophy for maxing all confidants and I was well on my way only to realize I hadn't seen the Sun confidant in a while, and lo and behold, he is permanently unavailable now

I should've realized but I'm also pretty ticked at how often I have to look stuff up for this game. Honestly, I feel like not even playing anymore because I was really jazzed over maxing them all out.

Sucks because I have never replayed a Persona game and I have also never gotten all the social links in one playthrough either but I could've done it here without a guide except.. oh wait, I should've used a guide.

Fack. I really hate breaking my neck to look at some strategy guide or website every few minutes to make sure I don't mess anything up. I already have an obscene amount of time on my file from trying to do things almost perfectly on my own. 145 hours and I'm at the end of November.

Lyn is amazing. I is totally different from what I expected as well. With that voice, I thought she had a mixed race, with Asian and African roots. I know I shouldn't focus that much on stereotypes, but before the game got released, I thought she was American, really.

Is she popular in Japan? Or did she become known after Persona?

That effin' sucks.

If it's any consolation, you're not really expected to finish all your confidants on your first playthrough. No offense to people who do this, but playing with a guide open telling you what to do and when to do it is a terrible way to play a Persona game for the first time. You should be pursuing the characters that you're most interested in knowing more about, or the stories that you're most interested in continuing.

I got bored midway through my NG+ run and decided to open up my copy of Nier that people in this thread recommended. Thanks! It started off slowly, and now it's picking up the pace. The music in that game is fantastic as well.

Someone sell me on this game. I've been 50/50 on it for a long while now, and am ungodly bored with most forms of "entertainment" that I currently have. Mainly due to highly anticipating some games that will be out in Sept/Oct. There's a whole lot that I could be reading instead, but I keep getting distracted on thinking about how I just want to play a game right now.

Anyway, I grew up on turn-based RPGs, and I absolutely love the aesthetics Persona 5 has. I also loved Nocturne. My biggest reservation has been the whole "social links" aspect of it. Is it practically the same as it was in P3? Because that was okay up to a point, but got really tiring. I'd rather be exploring/fighting than playing a different version of The Sims.

Damnit. That's the other game I've been dubious on. Everything about it sounds appealing to me, yet when I watch the combat in gameplay videos, it looks rather shallow and repetitive.

Social links are still a very big part of the game, as much as they were in P3 I'd say. The structure of the game is also largely unchanged, so if you didn't like that in P3 you probably won't like it in P5 either. On the other hand, they have been improved by quite a substantial amount in P5. They are more interesting and much more memorable than the ones in P3. They also now integrate into the actual gameplay much better, since they give you some very interesting skills that are useful when fighting. The whole life sim aspect also has much more interesting things you can do compared to P3.

It is a bit shallow, but combat is far from the top in the "why you should play Nier" list of things, kinda like it is with Persona games.

Beat the Reaper fair and square (without abusing flu season). Turns out having a nigh-unkillable Yoshitsune (who is still OP in this game fwiw) trivializes pretty much everything except enemies that block or repel phys. But then I have Alice for that.

About to head into Mementos to grind materials I need to craft all the tools I haven't made for the trophy (and get those last 2 Treasure Demons). On a scale of 1-10, how difficult is it to grind the Passionate Listener trophy? It's the only one I'm not sure how to go about doing.

Apparently I don't have the very first treasure demon 'Regent' in my compendium so I go to Mementos to track one down. Go up and down the floors until one finally shows.

Down shot. Miss. Down shot. Miss. Regent runs away.

W-what...?

I just need to rant, fuck bitch ass Mishima and his requests. I'm missing one of his early requests even though I got the texts, so long plat trophy
Fucking A,

Love this game and wanted to keep my streak of Persona platinums going but holy fuck I don't think I'll replay this for a third time.

Man, the gimmick for the (late nov/dec spoilers)
cruise ship palace is killing me. The mouse stuff isn't fun, the enemies in this area are annoying, and I just want this to be oooover.

Yeah these dungeons are the main thing stopping me from going a third time. That one
is just way too long :/
I think I just need a break. I'm too burnt out.

That dungeon had two too many
mouse corridor sections
. Isn't helped by the random doors which cause a loading screen, that then re-spawns all the encounters.

As long as you don't expect it to be anywhere near P5 in... anything, you should enjoy it.

There's nothing really to sell here, it's one of the best JRPGs of all time. Like, top 5 shit. It has some of the best gameplay, dungeons, gameplay loop, characters, music and art direction in general in the genre.

Now of course the s-link/visual novel-ish aspect of the game is a huge part of it, so if you don't like the concept you may not like it as much as other people, but i'd say it's also part of why it's so amazing. It's really well done.

This doesn't mean that the game is perfect. There are a few annoyances here and there, some bad design choices in certain parts and the structure is far too limited and linear, which may be a turn off for some people.

Damnit. That's the other game I've been dubious on. Everything about it sounds appealing to me, yet when I watch the combat in gameplay videos, it looks rather shallow and repetitive.

It is. It's also hilariously broken.

It is a bit shallow, but combat is far from the top in the "why you should play Nier" list of things, kinda like it is with Persona games.
Now if P5 didn't have the one of best turn based combat ever i could agree with you.

Thing is, there isn't a single specific aspect why you should play Nier. It just manages to be a good game as a whole, but the single parts are pretty shitty, and the second half is basically saved by the true finale. Even the OST, despite being pretty good, is massively overrated on this forum, most tracks sound the same and are reused to hell and back in sections that have nothing to do with each other. Nothing comparable to what Meguro did for P5.

It's easier than Hardcore Risette fan was in P4, that's for sure. I got it during the course of my first game with fairly minimal squad rotation, so if you switch the party up it shouldn't be too much trouble.

You'll know from your first play through that you get comments for things like downing one/all enemies with each character, defeating one/all enemies with each character, scoring crits, getting hit by each of the different status ailments with each character. You can also bump the number up by making sure that you use (Palace 6 spoilers)
Akechi while he's available
.

Yeah Passionate Listener is fairly simple to get here. I didn't worry about it until before the final dungeon, and all I did was cycle through all the characters for like 20 minutes until the trophy popped up.

Obviously you want to make sure to use the newest party member in Palace 6 as much as you can too.

Ha, thanks man. I agree with you about not realistically expecting to do all social links the first time through. After sleeping on it, I'm not nearly as fuming about it. I guess I was expecting too much to do it on my own. The only thing I was looking up was the confidant answers. Oh well. I mostly care about getting the exclusive fusion from maxing the rank anyway. The game doesn't offer many gold trophies and I have like 30 bronze but no silver or gold yet, so it was kinda adding to the sting there.

I didn't even know I got the Passionate Listener trophy until I browsed my records. I played the game normally and after reading about it the only thing that i think helped me get it without effort was that I switched my characters a lot in palaces and mementos.

Regarding 11/20

How did Akechi killing the MC in the cognitive world didn't kill him in the real world like with Okumura?

The way I understand it,
it wasn't the MCs shadow/cognition, it was Sae's. Kind of like if you killed Anne in Kamoshida's palace, which had nothing to do with her, she would've been fine.

I just reached 11/21,and I'm now 100% sure I'm going to come agonisingly close to max ranking all confidants, but fall just short by the tiniest margin. I'm glad I didn't consult a guide for my first playthrough, but I'll definitely have to consult one for NG+ if I go for a second.

That was one hell of a gripping plot dump I just sat through.

I agree. There was a short blurb of dialog at the start of
Sae's palace talking about how there was a building next to the casino that was identical to the same building in the real world, showing that there are areas in palaces that are identical to their real-world counterparts. That's how they hatched the plan about faking the MC's death.

The part about
Ann's cognition dying in Kamoshida's palace is a good example. Ann killed her own cognition when she awakened, and at the end of the palace you see Shadow Kamoshida with another, identical Ann cognition to show that nothing happened.

Does the game have a section like P4 that can cut a bunch of content if you give the wrong responses?
Yes

Watch Da Birdie

I buy cakes for myself on my birthday it's not weird lots of people do it I bet
Fuse Trumpeter to literally end his life with Debilitate.

Thanks, that helped---he was pretty easy with that and Siegfried.

The hardest part was honestly the first part since he was resistant to Phys. and all my main dudes basically focused on that

So, now what's next after this?

There's just the final Mementos run and a final boss, right? I can spend the rest of my free days doing Social Links, don't have to finish Mementos till then unless I want to correct? I still have the post-Okumura and post-Sae areas, but I'll just have to go through them first when I get to that plot point after the Shido deadline?

Is the final boss difficult? Without specific spoilers, anything I should know?

All right, almost done with the 3rd dungeon and it took me about 3h I think. I'm honestly afraid of having to click through 7-10h of dialogue for the next dungeon to open up and I'm not sure if I will do it. The dialogue/gameplay ratio is completely out of whack in the game and easily the single worst thing about it. It's like 75/25 (at best) in favour of dialogue which is just insane. No way this game is as good as 3 or the really well paced 4 (other than the first 5h).

I think it's easily better than 3 and 4 just for the fact that most of the dialogue isn't as boring to watch as the characters barely animated in 3 and 4. I did not like watching stiff character models in the older games talk for a long time. The gameplay is also a lot better.

However, I agree with you about the amount of dialogue. I find it obnoxious sometimes. The game almost seems like a visual novel. The story has been good though and I totally like the premise of this game compared to 4.

I can't wait for a more gameplay focused SMT game on consoles. My favorite part of P5 is combat and fusing demons and while the dungeons are better than 3 and 4, they still aren't all that impressive.

I had felt kinda bad about testing out the Reaper exploit once in November and jumping 7 levels, but it might actually have been the only thing that carried me through Palace 7 safely. The Treasure route is secured now, and the palace honestly wasn't as bad as I'd heard it might be.
The series of tough boss battles at the end was a very close thing though; I'm very happy I took the time to max Strength and pay to fuse Siegfried a few hours before
.

What an amazing game. Easily my favorite out of the last three.

Just finished 5th dungeon. Enjoying on hard difficulty.

Started poopsocking the hell out of this game today. Finished the entire first dungeon in 2 sittings. I'm hooked.

I looked up the number of dungeons and the average playtime and it seems a little daunting, but this is the best RPG I've played in a while.

You should give the story leading up to the 4th palace a try, I enjoyed far more than the 3rd palace story. It's more intriguing and there are fun twists to the scenario of invading a palace.

Okay, I'm a few days away from reaching December. Of the Confidants I have remaining: I've got 3 or 4 people at level 9, one at 6, a couple at 7 or so but blocked behind Mementos requests, one locked behind a level 5 Guts stat, and one all the way down at level 2 (whoops!).

This is going to destroy my soul.

Finally finished it. I liked it, but not loved. My favorite part of the game was the first palace and it sadly never reached those heights again. I got bored of the format about three fourths through and just wanted it to end.

why dafuq is kindness so hard to get.. i got a couple books and seen the movie.

Also felt bad that i had to choose between best gurls
takemi and Kawakami
to romance. Im going with the latter for the awesome lv10 bonus.

Games good shit, jack of all trades really. GOAT menu's and Battle system tho
