Peter Molyneux OBE

Who'd have thought it...

Leading British computer games maker Peter Molyneux has been made an OBE in the New Year Honours list.

The head of Surrey's Lionhead Studios was granted the honour for services to the computer games industry.

Mr Molyneux has been behind many of the ground-breaking games of the last 15 years such as Populous, Theme Park, Dungeon Keeper and Black and White.

He is widely credited with helping to create and popularise the so-called god-game genre.

Order of the British Empire

The Order of the British Empire was created during the First World War in 1917 by George V. The King recognised the necessity for a new award of honour which could be more widely awarded, in recognition of the large numbers of people in the British Isles and other parts of the Empire who were helping the war effort both as combatants and as civilians on the home front. For the first time, women were included in an order of chivalry, and it was decided that the Order should also include foreigners who had helped the British war effort.

So if I spend three or four years making half-games and lying to the public I can get medals and royal honors too? Kewlio

If you have a career where you are responsible of games like Populous, Dungeon Keeper, Syndicate, Theme Park. Where you co-funded one of the most important british studios (Bullfrog), left it, and then funded another profitable studio in the country, that give support to other studios to do games like Fable.

After a life dedicated to the industry, being a gentleman with everyone, be responsible of outstanding games, founding two profitable UK studios and being passionate about it. After all that, yes you can get honors too.

Meanwhile I suggest you have a lot of work to do to spend your time in forums.

Everyone knows that Molyneux was killed a few years ago by rival developers and replaced by a clone that does the things I mentioned

I will save this for Black & White 2 ;)

Molyneux hasn´t changed at all in this years. For what I know, B&W 2 is going to show the true potential of a good idea that is extremely complicated to execute.

Give me a break on the fable sucked crap on this forum, having played the game and others I cannot see any reasonable person claiming "it sucked" as if its on the level of totaled, drake or fight club. Those games sucked, fable wasnt the best rpg ever so it didnt live up to molyneuxs ridiculous claim, but it was fun, had solid magic and melee combat, an engrossing world, and a jam packed gaming enviroment. Most games ive played were not as good as fable.

Its as if there are only two categories, great and sucked, black and white, good and evil, oh crap im beginning to sound like peter molyneux games hehe.

hmmm I dont recall anyone ever saying that, might as well be accurate, cause what he said was even dumber, "the greatest rpg of alltime" is what I think he promised.

Then again I was told there was a santa claus, easter bunny, every commercial i watch on tv promises me happiness with some new pill. If your gullible I suppose you might have believed him and so I guess he owes you an apology. BUT on its own merits without the hype I think the game holds up pretty well, and is definately not "sucks" material.

Only one molyneux game gets the crap award, black and white.

Peter's an ambitious guy. He's only let people down because he voices his ambitions perhaps a little too much. Otherwise he and the companies he has worked for / ran have done some pretty sweet stuff in their time.

He does want gaming to be inventive, and evolve, he's all for great depth in simple gameplay. I'm not proclaiming his as a gaming deity or anything, but he probably is a credit to the British industry.

It's good that whoever drafts up these lists is recognising people in the games industry if nothing else. I think that's a first in and of itself (I might be wrong).

He, I would´t mind to be Peter Molyneux.

But I´m strong defender of his view of doing things. Delivering the quarter part of what he "promises" in a game make a much more interesting game that the 80% of the titles around the market.
