If words have no power why does he care so much if he apologizes? I mean it's just a word right?

Way too many cuts to feel like it's sincere... for fuck's sake say something from the heart, maybe even off the cuff a little, in one go.

But I guess it doesn't matter, the like to dislike ratio basically says it all.

On the stream he showed no regret. It's really hard to buy any sort of half assed apology. He probably did this just to try and save face, I don't believe he is sorry at all.

The apology felt some-what sincere. The future will tell whether he carries those words with meaning or not.

There's no reason to believe that he will carry anything when his on-air personality is being a loud, spastic moron meant to entertain pre-teens.

I'm glad he did present excuses at the end. I'm not omniscient to know if it's lawyer or pr stunt or if it's sincere. He did said it was the worst word to use. He is breaking with the whole "it's just a word" crew out there. He his right when he says that it part of this horrible culture of online gaming and I can't personaly play one game without public chat without listening to that, so I think we call agree that it's the tip of the iceberg. I do think that he's racist for saying it, especially the way he used it, and I hope he'll get trouble. People don't learn without repercussions especially with this toxic crowd of his.

Holy shit those YT comments...

'He said sorry so it's okay, it's just a word bla bla'

ffs

That's the problem. Damage has been done - he's influenced his audience enough that they don't see any apology - sincere or not - as anything other than playing to the cameras.

If the guy wants to show real reparation for what he's done - he's going to have to work a bit harder.

I hope he is being honest with this apology, I have been there since 2013 and I know he is better than this.

I was never really a ''fan'' of PewDiePie, I don't give a shit about the bros and the brofists, but I always liked how down to earth and sincere he was back in the days. There was a point where I really liked Felix even though I don't actually enjoy his content all that much. (His The Last of Us playthrough was amazing though, his reaction was interesting and sincere.)

Felix isn't a bad person on the inside, he really isn't, but what he did in recent months are just fucking stupid and ignorant.
He is acting like a 13 years old yelling ''n**ger'' in the middle of the street and think it's just a bad word, nothing big deal.

He really changed a lot since 2014, I rarely seen someone become more racist as they become more famous, it was truly disappointing and heartbreaking.

I really think he was affected by the ''SJW hate culture'' on the internet, his recent jokes such as ''respect wamen'' is the best example. It doesn't help that a lot of people who supported him during the WSJ controversy are alt-rights and anti-SJWs.

If you're reading this Felix (I doubt it though), wake the fuck up, just because those people helped you doesn't mean you have to be one of them, just because some leftist are being aggresive and annoying doesn't mean they are on the wrong side.

Stop being ignorant and stop thinking people who are offended are just overreacting.
This is real life, this isn't a show.

It's a non-apology. And honestly, I think he's beyond the point of apologizing. If he had a LOT of introspection, empathy, and self-awareness, then (1. he wouldn't have done this in the first place) he would have turned this into a Teachable Moment (TM) by:

-Being truthful of his wrongdoing. Not trying to downplay it with statements like, "I don't know why I said it, I hate that word usually". He needs to own fully by admitting that he does use the word regularly, and he was aware of its history, and yet he continued to use it.

-Acknowledging the criticism and learning from it. He should have thoroughly researched the reason why people were upset, understood it, and then explain why what he did was so offensive.

-Apologize without rationalizing/excusing it: He needs to say that he understands why people are upset, and admit that he needs to take further time to reflect on why he chose to use that word up to this point. He doesn't need to apologize for the sake of lessening the burden of guilt, but to allow the victimized party to know that he heard them and understands them, and he will work hard going forward to not do the same again.

Of course, we all know by now he doesn't seem capable of that, and he likely doesn't have anyone in his life who will sit him down and school his ass, so...there we go.

What an uninspired response. He's learned nothing and will continue to learn nothing. He says nothing to address the fact that the most upsetting thing about the inciting video is how casually he says it and follows up with "nobody watching this video will care."

At the very least he should put his money where his mouth is and donate a significant amount of money to an anti rascism charity.

Doesn't feel like much of an apology, how do you accidentally say a word that isn't in your normal vocabulary?

because it's a word you think a lot but are smart enough not to say out loud generally. As I said, if this sort of word "slips out", that's probably indicative of who that person really is deep down

Frankly, you're not going to change the way someone his age thinks, and he is unlikely to make the effort himself. He's shown what he's made of on more than one occasion, so this apology means nothing.

I dunno, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. It does me no benefit to go on thinking there's one more person beyond being able to grow in this world. He'll just need to put up or shut up.

WTF... the first comment... and it got 11.000 likes.

This doesn't bode well for the human race.

Eh this has nothing to do with the future of the human race

Youtube comments are a cesspool because sites like reddit and 4chan and voat run campaigns to get the posts they want to the top. Remember like two years ago where every fucking gaming video on youtube had some shit like "The Fedoraed Gamer" as the top youtube comment?

Comments should really be closed on a video like that anyway

Ah the old "sorry you were offended", ie: "I'm not sorry that you can't handle my words". Same as UK MP Anne Marie Morris who said "n****r in the woodpile" on the radio this year, then said "sorry people were upset by this", instead of "sorry I said this".

There is no "it slipped out in the heat of the moment". My heat of the moment outbursts are things like "fucking hell" or "fuck you", not racial slurs.

He's made his money, it's time he left.

PDP: "Sorry you found out I'm a racist homophobe."

Man...someone at Hallmark should get on that. I'm sure it'd sell well.

There is absolutely no way to justify what he said and literally no apology that would be good enough for me personally. There is just no defense or reasoning for why he said what he said. Nothing he says in the video even addresses the black community, just "his" audience. Why even make an apology to skirt around the issue? I wouldn't even classify the video as an apology to begin with honestly. Just a horrible person all around. The apology reads more like "I'm sorry for being caught" rather than understanding why the word is hurtful

Can we get a full transcription of what he said in the video, to avoid giving him money to watch? Or at least a mirrored link?

Apologies that involve apologizing for how someone else feels are seldom, if ever, genuine. In fact they're pretty condescending. Mature individuals don't phrase things "sorry if i hurt you....sorry if i offended you....etc" Your apology should revolve around your own actions regardless of how the person interpreted those actions if you truly consider your actions to be regrettable. I mean, just by virtue of the way it's worded, he's saying that im sorry that you're upset and as such had you not been upset, i wouldn't be apologizing. People shouldn't see that as an acceptable apology

totally agreed with the condescending tone, as well as the fact that he would not be apologizing if no one was upset.

This was an apology for apology's sake. It's never too late to learn from your mistakes and change though. And while I'm not a fan of PDP, it would be cool if this was the beginning of a completely clean stream of content.

There's no reason to believe that he will carry anything when his on-air personality is being a loud, spastic moron meant to entertain pre-teens.

Perhaps this is the defining moment PDP finally flips his channel on its head and only does unboxing videos in a calm, composed, socially acceptable manner for the rest of his life.

nah, it's totally possible it slipped out in the heat of the moment, it's just that if that was the case that reveals a lot about who PDP really is and how he thinks beyond the persona he normally portrays to his audience. It's not impossible for someone to have a racial slur slip out in the heat of the moment, but if that does happen it says a lot about the person who did so

At the very least he understands his position and that this kind of vocabulary is inexucable considering how many children he influences. He looked sincere to me, although one can argue his main wish is just to "appear", not to "be" a better person in this regard. But as long as he isn't the source to the hateful and offensive kind of vocabulary and speech to his audience I could care less what his actual mindset is.

"Apologies" don't mean anything if you haven't learned the lessons of your mistakes.

Stop talking the talk,PieDiePie - walk the walk.

Yup, not even clicking the video. Fuck this guy, we have given him plenty enough chances. Dude knows better.

Yeah no, that's just a bad apology. He did not even adress the issue and why what he did was bad. Maybe start with that if you aren't a racist.

Just like the majority, the "apology" PDP gave earlier this morning doesn't mean anything if you've been caught time after time using "jokes" about being a Nazi, belittling Jewish people, making rape comments, and now for saying the n-word as an insult. And I use the word "jokes" loosely because they were never funny to even begin with.

You really want PDP to feel real sorry for his actions? Have Google/Youtube, Twitch/Amazon, and/or PLAYERUNKNOWN dole out some punishment towards PDP using a hateful term on their platforms and show it is not okay to say this to anyone at any time. Using the excuse of him being a "27 year old kid" and "boys will be boys" is a pathetic attempt to sweep this under the rug.

Video is only 1:30 long, don't think he'll get any money of it.

Yeah the money coming from that will be very very low, actually it might already be ad-limited so it's not making any money regardless.

This doesn't seem like a good idea, EA tried doing this with their penalties in FIFA if you swore and people flipped out. I'd rather not have a game censor anyone. I'd like the platforms he's making these videos on to do it. Player Unknown isn't good at handling these situations. No gaming company is.

So let youtube or twitch deal with it if anything.

Doesn't feel like much of an apology, how do you accidentally say a word that isn't in your normal vocabulary?

Quite easily. I am the first guy to intervene if someone uses the word "gay" as a slur, but sometimes it slips from my mouth if I'm enraged. I know it's fucked up and it happens because it was the most common slur and swear word in my country together with "fuck" when I was a little kid. That's no reason or excuse to use it ever, but sometimes it just fucking comes out of nowhere and I'm ashamed of that. I never ever use slurs like that and I can't stand people who use sexist/racist/homo/transphobic slurs.

Not defending pew here, just making a personal confession.

While I think he is sincere, and he really does want to change, I don't think he's taking the steps to actually change. No real internal reflection, no practicing what he preaches, no putting himself in different situations with different people, and so on. Change takes effort. He needs to put in that effort.

I really do wish he would change. I hope THIS is the one that triggers his change. Not holding my breath, but I'd love to be proven wrong.

You know he's better than this? Really? Wasn't he also sexist jokes out the gate?

Anyway, doesn't feel sincere. He had a half was apology for his anti semitism and here we are again.

Without encouraging such behavior or accepting the use of that word, I believe internet just made a storm out of a word he let out of simple gaming rage. The fact that it was live didn't helped him. But to also be fair, he didn't apologied right away after saying it on his live stream, thing he should have done right away.

Apologies mean jack squat. Actions speak far louder than any apologetic words ever could and PDP's actions are consistently and obviously shitty. But oh no, this time the apology is the real one and its gonna stick and blah blah blah. Its not even much of an apology if you ask me.

I took it as a sincere apology, but it doesn't mean much given his history of repeating this sort of thing, and at this point he needs to show more than tell. Still, it does matter very much that he admits it was wrong given how huge his following is.
