PGR4 Wishlist?

So PGR3 has been taking up much of my time of late..I must say I'm impressed. Probably played more of it than any racer since GT3. Given that it's a launch title, meaning it was probably rushed a bit and some corners were likely cut, I'm salivating at the proposition of what PGR4 could potentially offer given the extra time/experience with the hardware. With that in mind, my wish list for PGR4 would be as follows:

1. Don't mess with the controls/physics!! I swear to the god of vulcanized rubber that they absolutely nailed the handling, stick and trigger sensitivity, and the differentiating "feel" between the cars in PGR3. The actual driving and handling of the cars is probably the most gratifying sensation I've ever had with a racing game. Cornering, drifting, drafting. LEAVE IT BE. It's perfect. I swear.

2. 60 fps...please?!? I know the motion blur does a good job of disguising the "chug and crawl" that you get with a non-locked 30fps in PGR3, but to an absolute graphics whore like myself, I can't help but wonder to what heights my ejaculates would soar if a game at the detail level of PGR3 were moving at a locked 60fps with no drops. PGR3 is certainly as close a game as I've seen in terms of making it difficult to distinguish the frame rate (I'm always irritated by people who say "30fps..60fps..I don't see the difference"..FUCK YOU THERES A DIFFERENCE), but my scrutiny level has adjusted and I want more..MORE!!

3. Some kind of "free ride" mode a la GTA that would allow for realtime travel inside the respective cities. I know it's probably a nightmare from a technical standpoint, but PGR3 already featured streaming track sections (and thus all the loadtimes..more on that in a moment). Mingling a few sideline peds with some dummy cars (maybe license a few cheesy budget sedans/suv's) and the occassional E Class car, along with the appropriate section of track would make for a pretty servicable cityscape. Ever since playing Metropolis Street Racer for the first time, I remember the feeling of disappointment when I realized there was no option for a mode such as this. To me it diminshed the premise of racing in a realistically created city. Perhaps some easter eggs could be placed around various locations to provide a reward for exploration, but even if it was just a pointless standalone mode, I'd still enjoy it thoroughly.

4. Load time reduction. I realize this is a highly technical issue given the bulk of data being streamed in and out of RAM throughout the races, but I feel like at least some of the more benign loading issues could be addressed. The menus in the game are slick, but there are a lot of unnecessary loads that could be handled by doing menu overlays (particularly when having to access the garage frequently) instead of whole new screens for each portion. If nothing could be done about the race-time loads (Throw in some HD space for caching track data?? Or would that violate the "essentials"?), at least go through and completely streamline the menu experience for maximum speed, minimum loads.

5. Dubai!! Of all the neo-metropoli waiting to be slapped into a sex racer like PGR, Dubai is clearly the frontrunner for a slot in the circuit. Between all the crazy new architecture they have constructed, the scenic desert on the outskirts, the huge coastline "palms" covered with resorts and beachfront, there's assloads of gorgeous scenery waiting to be captured and digitally delivered to the Flanders residence for exploration via McClaren F1. I've made the choice for you, Bizarre. Book your flight to the United Arab Emirates and get your cameras ready..

6. Exportable photos. Just include some kind of interface for offloading all those beloved photo mode pics to a PC or USB device. Doesn't have to be fancy pants, just something that can get our "work" out to the masses without having to take snapshots of my glare-laden television.

7. Kill Kudo combos with wall contact. I know they're trying to be forgiving etc, but the concept of Kudo's is essentially style points, and I know personally that anytime I see a driver hit a wall in...anything...I never consider it the least bit stylish. I've benefitted extremely from the forgiving system, but it's still a dumbing down of the concept. Only the most extremely incedental contact should be ignored..everything else should bring an end to the combo. Period.

8. Expanded replay mode with customization. I would love to be able to tailor my replay saves to the individual race. Have a wide angle chase shot on the big straightaway, a front-to-back close-up on a well drifted corner, a shuffle of cars during a battle for position etc. I believe it was Driver back on the PS that had a setup like this, and it worked wonderfully. Really allowed you to show off your run from the best possible angles at all times. Would be a fun inclusion.

9. Live tournaments? Some kind of event-based Live racing with qualifying races etc and a potential prize (Live points at worst) for top 3 finishes? I mean the Live setup is great as is, but something more community-focused like a lot of MMO games have would do as much to keep people playing as "online career mode".

10. Wet-track racing, a la GT3. With all the assloads of effects these new GPU's are laden with, you'd think we could make this a standard feature, but it would appear that the challenge of implementing the effect scales along with the detail level of the game itself. I'm sure with some time and effort it could be done with jaw-dropping results, but it has to be made priority among the devs first. We should start an online campaign for it's inclusion RIGHT NOW.

Anyway these are just off the top of my head..I'm sure I'm forgetting a few. I realize that some of my suggestions are going to be highly dependent on skirting technical issues that may or may not be completely avoidable, but I think that given the newness of the hardware, a lot of untapped potential remains to be put to use over the next couple of years. I think that by fall 2007, 60fps at a fairly improved detail level is conceivable, as are wet-track options (Just trim the car count like GT3 did! Hell in PGR3, half the time you're only racing against another guy or two in career mode anyway!) trimmed load times (should be easy), and a possible city-roaming free ride mode. All the other ideas are just a matter of development and implementation.

the game won't be 60fps. give it up. it already looks kick ass and very smooth in motion.

My biggest problem with PGR3 is it's online structure. Online career is a good idea that's implemented poorly. Also I want more balanced car classes, it's boring to see everyone use the same car. and I want better thought out / designed tracks (thought PGR2 had far more "classic" tracks..).

The core driving physics + in car view is really great though.

Bizarre Creations Studio Update 19
As for the future of PGR3... here's the skinny. We've got some good stuff on the way, including some community suggestions which we've gathered from our forum as well as various other sources. The A-Max guys are putting together a bunch of really exciting stuff, including the previously mentioned Xbox Live tournament system. Yay!
:) Hopefully the system works, I wonder if there will be any sort of referee to judge dodgy collisions etc?...No me either.

Aw fuck yeah!!

And why is 60fps inconceivable, thorns? PGR1/2 had peers in their day that ran at 60 fps and looked quite comparable (GT series etc), and from my understanding, the adherance of X-Box racers to 30fps ceilings had to do with the hardware and not with developer preference. Assuming the X360 doesn't share those same hardware incongruities (did the GC have blurro-vision AA just because the N64 did??), I don't see why it shouldn't be a goal. PGR3 is already so close to photorealistic in terms of the car models and city detail, that you wouldn't need an order of magnitude in enhancements to accompany the 60fps in order for the game to be absolutely cutting-edge.

My real fustration with PGR3 is the lack of cities. After playing so many great cities in PGR2 i was let down for the most part after playing all of PGR3. But mind you it still good in my eyes. I would love more cars, and maybe properly class them. Light cars do not race with heavy bricks.

For PGR4 i've come up with a list of thing i think would make the game kick ass. First keep the city stuff thats great. But get more long tracks and one way tracks. We've got streaming technology why not make a 40 mile long course?

Also i'd love to see drag races or a form of drag racing. This would be cool cause they would be small courses but still pretty big. That new bridge in france (the highest bridge or something) for one would be a cool drag spot.

Cities:

Miami
Dubai
Sol
Rome
Seatle
Rio

long tracks:

Swiss Alps
Nubergring
Autoban
Yosemite
Spanish/French mediteranian coast line
Keywest

As for other modifications, bring back smaller callers. SO people can actually learn how to drive in the game. Also adding more exotic older cars, some of us dont need a freaking enzo. I'd love to drive older cars, but i wouldnt mind if they added that Bugati Verynon. Add freaking customization like forza did for the cars. It makes ya stand out and its just freaking cool.

Now onto live, get the fucking ranking system fixed. Noobs do not race with contenders or at least shouldnt. Tournaments for god sakes where the fuck is this option? Online car garages where you can visit a friends garage look at their custom car designs, replays, photos.

The last thing i've got to say about PGR4 is that it better have a new version of Geowars with it =P

WHOA holy crap edit

WEATHER and Slick road tracks hell yeahs i'm all for that too.

I forgot to mention the reason i love PGR is the attention to details in real life. They make it very realistic and i like that aspect of the game. It makes for a different feel of racing.

And yes i freaking know that Nurbering is in the game already but there are still roads and other place around the track that could be sued to lengthen the races.

Porting Edinburgh to PGR4 (or even better as a download for PGR3) would make me the happiest gamer on earth. Of course I doubt this would ever happen :(

Because I think they would rather enhance the graphics/number of cars than make it 60fps..

As for the cities I would like to see..

Definately Istanbul, it's a very hilly city with lots of ups and downs, bridges, with lots of historical sights, and sea.

Rio would be nice , as would Dubai.

and I want GOOD tracks, with good design, and with elevation changes when possible.

More cars are not really necessary, considering people use only about 5 cars online. Make the cars more balanced - so everyone experiences different types of cars.

I don't agree that it's not good to race any car on any track, that was my major issue with PGR2. But now they fucked up the online career mode so you can't race on any track with any car if you want to do ranked matches..

BTW ifyou follow bizarre's updates, live tournaments are coming.

edit: and make the cones red again so I can actually see them (is it some issue with my tv or anyone else has trouble seeing cones in daylight now?)

Monaco would be a very nice city. Since Monaco is not really in France I don't know if they have that "droit Ă  l'image" law or not. If they have it then there is no way it could be in a PGR game.

FYI, the Nuerburgring is in the game, both the F1 track and the Nordschliefe.

- more tracks. there are some good suggestions in the thread already.

- MUCH better route creator mode. the one in pgr3 sucks ass. horrid baracade placement and really confusing arrows in places. dissapointing.

- 60 fps if just to get veryone to stfu about it. 30 + blur in pgr3 looked incredible, maybe even better then 60fps alone, but i'd love to see both 60fps AND motion blur. hot.

- more tracks. yeah, thats really the key. i'm sure it was only limited by being a launch title by only having 4 cities (thankfully they were all great cities). i'd like some small european old cities in there. i know the game is called gotham, but i'd love some open country roads as well.

- more challenging gameplay. platiinum was too easy in pgr3. make it like pgr2 again :)

- cone challenges need to go back to how they were in 2. multiple laps, and i want to be forced to link sections were cone gates arent evenly spaced again. also, if they keep the bumpers from pgr3, they need to have them lit up or soemthing. damn hard to see em at times

Decide whether it is a sim or an arcade gameplay based game and then build it around that.

Take all Ferrari's out.

Truth :)

Ned, not sure if you knew this or not, but pgr1 on xbox DID have the free roam mode where you could freely explore the cities in that game.

I hope they could find a way to lessen the strain on the DVD-ROM drive; that thing never stops spinning for PGR3. The game could benefit from HDD assistance, even though I would normally oppose the idea thanks to the dual SKU system Microsoft has employed. Otherwise, more tracks or more interesting sections of existing tracks; they show very little of New York City except for the areas surrounding Lower Manhattan.

Consider Sydney, a mainland Chinese city if the street layout is interesting enough, a mid-size North American city and please, please something from South America.

I agree with ned's list. I'd like to add the ability to adjust and turn off the blur. It gives me a bit of motion sickness. I can't play it for very long especially after a few beers.

I just want PGR2 re-made with PGR3's graphics :( I want all of the same cities (PGR2 courses>>>>>>PGR3's courses). I also want a similar, or the same, car range...none of this "Life begins at 170mph" bullshit

-Take Photo mode and apply it to replays. Drag and drop cameras anywhere on the track, add filters, lenses etc, then save the replay.

-Arcade mode simular to PGR1's.

-Better car damage. I want to see doors swing open, windshields shattering, panels falling off.

-The hell with 170mph. Bring back the Mini.

-Radio Stations

-glowing brake discs. I don't know why the hell they got rid of this.

-And for the love of God, 60 frames per second.........although I'm almost certain they won't.

There needs to be a bigger speed penalty for hitting the walls. Everytime I go check out the Gotham TV Heroes Channel or whatever it seems like all of the "heroes" hit the walls constantly. It's like they've learned that it doesn't hurt their speed very much to scrape and bang into the walls here and there and as a result, they're not concerned with it. It makes the races look terribly sloppy. It just seems like racing a track clean gives you no advantage over hauling ass bangin' into shit guy.
