PGR4 just reeked of the sort of style that Wipeout Fury/2048 had... so this is good (old news though, obv).

I'm guessing there's a lot of intermingling between devs in the UK, even if they are for different platforms.


PS. How did I not know Evolution was UK-based? For some reason I thought they were in the US. Certainly building themselves up as a bit of a racing powerhouse... Rare (going by the majority of the staff's prior experience), Lucid (I hope), Evolution and Playground.

Don't forget Codemasters (Grid etc) and Sumo Digital (Outrun, Sonic AllStars Racing).

I wonder if Shaun Southern (who I think was one of the owners of MF? Long time ago...) is related to Matt Southern (Evolution Studios, Driveclub). It's not a very common surname, and I think they are both from Oop North.

I actually tested a theory, and it turns out that you DON'T get any kind of kudos for hitting 120km/h in PGR4. Thought that might've been the case... but nup.

I've never heard that slogan for PGR3. How odd.

Sup is one of the best internet sleuths around. I was just pointing out that the number of people now listed at Lucid might not be full picture, like he says he doesn't even get to meet 4/5 of the people working on their game. It's far fetched, but it's an interesting thing he commented on.
 
No, he's talking about how game credits get stuffed full of people (usually from the publisher) who had little, if anything, to do with the game.
Honestly, this thread is quite literally 2+2=5 :)

Uhm, how about outsourcing companies who work on cars? I doubt T10 people know everybody they are working with over at companies like Dhruva Interactive.
 
But it wasn't posted by someone from T10? The context of the tweet seems obvious if you look what it was replying to.
Lucid may very well be making PGR5, I just don't find much of the evidence particularly persuasive. :)

T10 was used as an example, because they themselves use a lot of outsourcing companies.

Replace T10 with Lucid if that makes the point stronger or more relevant.

So, know what's interesting about this?

Recent screenshot of #Driveclub. Which means two things:
* Urtone is likely working on the first trailer for #Driveclub if he's already taking caps/footage in it (given that's his name in the licence plate we're seeing).
* If he's spent three months at Rare and he's doing something similar at Evolution, then he's at least got to the stage he's at with Evo now, with Rare two or three months ago. Which means, if Rare and Lucid are both working on PGR5, that we'll almost certainly see a trailer directed/edited by Urtone on Tuesday.
 
It's all an educated guess though. Having said that, it's interesting that he's listed as the "Video Editor" at Evolution but at Rare he was the "Video Editor and Motion Graphics Designer". Given the front-endy stuff he's done with Bizarre (see here and here) it sounds like he's at least had some kind of influence in the design of *insert game title here*, even if it's just a small bit.

PS. Here's a "Motion Graphics" showreel on his Vimeo. Gives you a better idea of what he defines "motion graphics" as. And knowing that... holy fuck, that makes me smile like a fat kid in a candy store.

“In terms of us working together, it couldn’t have gone any smoother. Staff from both studios used to work together at Bizarre Creations, so instantly knew each other’s processes. Also being in close proximity to each other meant the two teams could assemble quick scrums to discuss issues and ideas. I think the future of game development should be more like this, and could take inspiration from the film industry where teams are assembled based on their skills to deliver a specific production.

“I really don’t understand why we don’t do more of this in Liverpool where we have so much talent in such close proximity. I predict outsourcing to eastern suppliers will be used less in future, and instead games companies will look for high quality, versatile suppliers based closer to home.

PGR4 is one of the worst games I've played and the guys from the team ruined the sequel of one of my favorite games. Sonic Racing Transformed.

However the setting of the game is pretty cool so I'm down for baggage sequel, as long as the Bizarre devs stay fat away from it.

I think the former head of Rare Mark Betteridge said something similar in an interview once in that they were looking to move to a more film industry like setup for staffing to help reduce the boom bust hiring cycle - http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/22/rare-boss-devs-take-naive-approach-when-estimating-game-budge/

If Rare did end up implementing that kind of system (have a core team and then add people on contracts or by outsource when they are required) Lucid might be doing something similar with Rare...
 
Lol, I just came across my old PGR Dev Team teeshirt from around the release time of PGR4. I think I got it for being one of the PGR Nations bloggers. I was promised a load of swag, had to sign all sorts of Microsoft NDAs and stuff, but it all seemed to fizzle out quite quickly. I did get a copy of PGR4 signed by all the Bizarre guys, but fuck knows what happened to that.
 
Lucid games tweeted some time ago that they will announce something in mid may.
Did they already announced something or is there still a chance that it will be PGR5?

They said mid-may is exciting. And they released their new iOS game some days ago. So I assume that was that.
