RUN don't walk to pick up Phantom Brave!

I know where I can get it for $15, but I've heard it's not worth it. However, is this one of those titles that will increase in value despite being a semi-turd?

Dear lord no.

Totally didn't understand the stat system (even bought the strategy guide to try to figure it out), annoying lead character and story and the biggie:

The sphere-movement system. What a fucking joke. GRIDS. STICK WITH GRIDS! You do not need to change the square grid system!

And wow confining, grar!

If you're a fan of NI game mechanics, it's their best title by far.

If you're a story or loli/anime fruit, though, it might be their worst.

I thought Makai Kingdom had the best mechanics, I couldn't stand using confine every battle.

and are we forgetting about marona and castile?

Makai > Disgaea > Phantom Brave >>>>> That Really Shitty One

Makai has Phantom Brave-esque mechanics, but it gets rid of the annoying turn limit on characters and has an entertaining cast.

La Pucelle is good. I found the story much better then the one in Disgaea. The monsters are not to great to play with but if you use the story characters it's fun =3

That and I abused the hell out of the summoning streams.

I'd say yay ONLY IF you have played every other SRPG on the market and need something new. Otherwise, run far, far away.

The only reason to buy it is the gameplay. And then only if you really like stat heavy srpgs, with very poor tutorials..

Don't listen to these guys. It's an awesome game. I haven't played Makai Kingdom, but out of Disgaea, La Pucelle, and Phantom Brave, Phantom Brave is the best.

The battles are really great. They get really creative with them. Like boss fights where you can't hurt the enemy and have to figure out a way to kill him. Or one where you can't bring in weapons and have to use only the stuff you find in the map. And speaking of weapons, you can use normal stuff like swords and axes, but also pretty much anything on the field can be used as a weapon. Flowers, trees, rocks, treasure chests, watering cans, starfish, skulls, all kinds of stuff. And along with all the goofy weapons come themed skills to match the items. Like treasure chests will have you attack with money, mine carts will have you run over the enemy.

And a lot of people hate how your party members are only in a battle for a few turns before they disappear, but it gives the game a feeling of speed. You can't waste time, so you're always moving and trying to finish a stage quickly and efficiently. It makes FFT feel like a chore in how long it takes to do something. Press o, move cursor to where you want to move, press o again and 20 button presses later you've moved. Here it's move cursor to the guy you want to hit, press X and the character will automatically plot a path and hit him for you.

The story's good. I don't really care about stories in games, especially SRPGs, because lets be honest here, most game stories suck. If you play video games for stories, i lol at you. PB's story is really sad at the beginning. People are so mean to cute little orphan Marona that you feel really bad and you wish she'd use her powers to get revenge, but she just takes it and turns the other cheek.

So yeah, it's easily worth $20.

But Drinky swears by it. That's enoug to make me put a screeching halt to the whole purchasing idea.

There's a lot to like about the gameplay, but the uber-chibi storyline is so creepy that it gave me nightmares. I had to get rid of it for the sake of my sanity.

if Drinky likes this game (and he isn't being sarcastic) then I need to pick it up sometime. I'm tired of crappy story-on-a-stick SRPGs.
