As of right now, it's still a tropical depression (#17). The Weather Channel is saying that the next advisory, scheduled for 3PM EST, will bump it from Tropical Depression #17 to Tropical Storm Philippe, the 16th named storm of the 2005 hurricane season (I guess one TD never strengthened to TS status).

Predicted path, but still way too early to tell. Low-end prediction is 95kt winds in 5 days.

Exactly, you know... the water is just getting hotter!
Yep, no such thing as global warming, it's just getting hotter!

Yup, because hurricanes have only started happening since W took office......

You miss the point. W isn't doing a thing to curb global warming. That's the point.

Although, when you really think about it... Global Warming is almost a red herring. True environmental damage is happening on slightly smaller scales but everyone's too caught up in stuff that affects everywhere to notice the stuff that adds up to everywhere.

This thing still hasn't died yet.

And apparently, it looks to be headed toward the U.S. (if there isn't any high pressure system to steer it away)

Hmmm....just read this:

the leftward Bend in track continues...and initial motion estimate
is now around 290/16...although the shorter-average speed is even
faster. Philippe is caught in the flow around a larger
deep-layer cyclonic circulation centered about 200 N mi to the
south. In fact...Philippe now has the appearance of an embedded
low-level vorticity maximum...and may no longer have a closed
circulation. Since the larger circulation to the south is becoming
the dominant weather system...the official forecast calls for
Philippe to become absorbed and dissipate within 24 hours.
However... if present trends continue...Philippe could dissipate
even sooner.
