So it's in stores today. Picked it up this morning and have been listening to it all day. I'm really digging it. They announced a date near me in mid May as well (too bad it's not the Okkervil River leg of the tour).

So yea, it's an awesome record. Buy it.

I love it. "The Mariner's Revenge Song" is just about the greatest thing every, right behind "The Tain." I think all of their records are of about equal quality. None of them are perfect, and none of them are full of bad songs. They all have peaks and valleys, and all of them are really good. Except The Tain but that's a pretty fucking hard peak to match, I'd think.

Anyway, I'm seeing them April 9th with Okkervil River (who I'm seeing for the second time, and holy fuck are they good) and April 10th without. Lucky me.

Picaresque is awesome, I'm going to pick it up tomorrow and see them Monday. Everything they do is fantastic, but Picaresque could very well be their best yet.

Giving it a full listen for the first time now.

I really like it. The actual cd sounds much more lush than the mp3's that have been available for a while now. I hope they work with Walla again. This is really gorgeous.

I prefer their first album to their second, and Picaresque seems to be a mix of both. Can't wait to see them pull off The Bagman's Gambit live.

I'm really psyched to see them and Okkervil River tomorrow night. Speaking of Okkervil, the new tracks up on thier website are fantastic. They seem to have gone in an unexpected direction, cranking up the guitars and whatnot.

Picaresque is really great, and based on my first few playthroughs, probably my favorite release from the Decemberists.

Since Okkervil River was mentioned, have to pitch in that Black continues the trend of awesomeness set by For Real. Cannot wait to buy the new album, on this evidence it should be a sweet package.
