PICROSS e Out Now on Nintendo eShop

Anyone buy this yet? I'm tempted to buy it, since I'm a fan of most of the Picross games I have played.

Price: £4.50 / €5.00

Use numbers as hints to complete illustrations in this series of "picture crossword puzzles", which Nintendo has been developing as its own brand of game software since 1995.

Anyone can enjoy it with its simple and easy to understand rules.

With this version's newly implemented navigation feature, puzzles can be solved more smoothly than ever.

Bought it! Shouldn't have, though... these Picross games are the ultimate productivity-killers. I won't be able to study, clean my apartment or sleep properly until I've finished ALL the puzzles... and it looks like there are hundreds.

Finished Easy Mode in a couple of minutes, but that mode is mostly just to get acquainted with the controls. And they're fine, although I tried to go too fast a couple of times and touched the wrong square, giving a 2 minute penalty. Seems to be a quality game all around, just like the other Jupiter Picrosses. Really hope they'll make another 3D Picross sometime - that was my favourite.

Can't go back after Picross 3D ;_;

Truth.

I liked 3D a lot, but I prefer to see all of the grid at once as opposed to having to "slice" into a cube different directions over and over again looking for that ONE LITTLE BLOCK that I can break.
The time limits in that game were infuriating, finally got 3 stars on all puzzles, but not before giving myself a much higher risk of a heart attack.

The limited total of puzzles and the fact that the biggest they get is 15x15 is a real boner killer. Won't be buying. For that price you can get a used copy of the DS game.

Bought this. My first e shop purchase!

What is the auto hints number thing?

And there's a bother hint system that appears to randomly fill in boxes. Is that what happens when you say yes/no at the beginning?

I hope it stops asking after easy.

Also, I notice you can press up/down on dpad to change marks, but is there a toggle option without usig the stylus?

It's nz$9.40, and coming from iOS, this game feels closer to $4-5.

Hmmph.

It's fine but not perfect

- Stylus controls don't seem to let you easily toggle on/off/cross, you have to hold up/down to mark/cross out squares. On the positive side this lets you use the stylus to highlight a square to see which row/column you're in. But that means it can be uncomfortable to hold (at least the XL), keep holding up/down, and use the stylus. Not tried cursor mode but usually they're a little too slow.

- only free mode lets you make mistakes without penalty.the other three modes all correct your mistakes for you. This is really important for me at least - I hate when you accidentally mark/cross out a square and you get penalised. Either I notice immediately and correct it, or I don't notice and paint myself into a corner and have to work it out. I don't have a problem with the time penalty as much as it correcting your mark.
Edit: apparently extra mode also uses free rules, so not so bad

- it asks you if you want a hint EVERY puzzle. Let me say yes/no in the settings and leave me alone. Hints fills in one row/column for you, and it asks in every mode.

- what is the ? Block in the corner? Seems to toggle on/off blue numbers but I'm not sure what they signify.

For the first point you made, you can tap with the stylus on the icons on the top right of the bottom screen to toggle on/off/cross modes. That's what I've been using.

Ah, cheers. I'd have preferred they let me press up/down and it sticks (let's me hover over the main grid rather than moving to the corner all the time), but that's not bad.

? Block shows in blue which numbers can be filled in. I don't think it shows which numbers can be fully filled in, it might include partial ones as well - eg in a 10x10 puzzle it'll light up an ’8’ even though you can't fill all of it in.
