Imaginary words? Where? :lol

You said blaringly. Ok, actually, that is a word, even though it's use is a bit peculiar. I'll forgive you.

Just try to stray away from the obvious trolling you're pushing.

I'm not trolling, but I am being harassed. It's not trolling to disagree with someone, I can't help it I get replies like:

"I suggest suicide"
"shut up"
"I don't know shit"

I didn't even say reall bad things about PF. I could, you know, but I won't because I like them.

Uhm, sorry to ask this here but I can't find any other Live 8 thread on the front page.

Anyone have a torrent of the video of Elton John's performance?

I was kidding before; now, however, I say go for gold. I'll buy you the frisbee.

Oh Snap!

I just watched the 200 odd meg video of that on my projector, stereo cranked. That was totally awesome. Best thing I've seen in ages.

Bring on Pulse on DVD!

Un-fuckin-believable!

I didn't get a chance to see this before, just watched it in DVD quality with kickass headphones and it brought me to tears from beginning to end... and I've only been a serious Pink Floyd fan for 3 years or so... am I too emotional?

Seriously, it was spot on perfect... I will sleep happy tonight.

Hey how come Alucard didn't post here? He's a big PF fan.

No, they introduced tons of props. Inflatable pigs, brick walls and lightshows.
Agree. The '73 tours were still quite good musically, but '75 and forward are all either crap (most of '77) or overdetermined/overproduced ('80-'81) or overproduced and crap ('87). I like listening to 'em, but they're crap. Fancy lights don't really make a great live show, much as I love the Floyd.

From '70-'73 they were a fantastic live band, though. Live at Pompeii is great fun to watch.

And I'm quite sure I own more live Floyd recordings than all of you, so :p
Very cool, but they're not the Rolling Stones or The Who.
Augh. The Rolling Stones suck live, I've never found the Jagger strut convincing in the least. The Who, on the other hand, have been blowing headliners off the stage since 1965 (including the Stones at their own Rock'n'Roll Circus). I haven't yet seen their set, but without Entwhistle and Moon, I don't really feel as excited. Entwhistle was in many ways the core of the band.

Zak Starkey's pretty cool, though. Is he still with them?

Edit: Oh, yeah, the performance. Well, rough edges aside, it was surprisingly good -- it sounded much more like the band I like than PF1987Ltd. Incredible to see Rog onstage with Rick, Nick, and Dave again, too. I was dead-set against a reunion tour but this changed my mind. If this is the end, though, it's a damn respectable way to go. Kudos to all (including Tim Renwick, poor man).

The classic rock station in Toronto has been playing some of the Live 8 songs, including the entire set from Pink Floyd. Listening to them again at work, the guitar solo in Comfortably Numb gave my blood chills several times. And I'm not a Floyd fan by any means, though I would like to grab a few of their albums. But I think the enormority of the reunion (considering how impossible it was said to be), and with that song being so damned good anyway, and hearing it being played so well in front of 200,000 on a late summer night in London...it's easy to imagine how it must've felt for the Floyd diehards. And it sure seemed like Gilmore was getting close to tearing up. That pic at the end was just cool as hell.

Oh yeah, far be it for this lifelong Sega fan to defend a lifelong Nintendo fan, Crunchy can hardly be called a troll here (hell I'm pretty sure he talked about how much he liked them several years ago). I think what he's saying is that the style of music Pink Floyd plays isn't as condusive for concert playing as a band like say, Kiss. Basically, Floyd's stuff is slower and more low key, while a Kiss, Queen or the Stones play stuff that's a lot louder, and more condusive to getting a crowd going at a show. That's my take anyway...I could be way off the mark.

Having said that, AC/DC blew the Stones off their own stage here a couple years ago (I've probably said this a half dozen times the last few days by now :lol), which doesn't take away from the Stones as a good live act...but AC/DC's energy at a show is just incredible. Not sure there's a better live rock act in the world at the present time.

Q107 rocks! CTV Sucks!! They only show half of the Pink Floyd set, but they manage to squeeze in Ben Mulroney and Tanya Kim about a million times. Fuckers.

It was amazing to see Pink Floyd reunited after so damn long. It looks and sounds like they didn't miss a beat all these years. And Gilmore was definitely ready to tear up.

AC/DC absolutely are in their own world when they're doing a live concert. They absolutely stole the show from the Stones. Not to say that the Stones aren't amazing, because they most definitely are, but AC/DC upstaged them for sure that night.

The times that I saw Pink Floyd(once on the MLOR tour and twice on the Division Bell tour, I thought the performance and the sound quality were damn good. More so on Division Bell. Even the bootleg video of the wall that I have, bad quality and all, you can still hear how great a band they were on stage.

That was quite amazing...first time I've seen footage of The Wall show. Thanks for posting that.

If your interested, theres that video and more at the echoes website. Theres also links to some David Gilmore solo stuff there thats pretty cool to watch. Here's the link http://www.pinkfloyd.co.uk/main.php?flash=present&quicktime=present

On a related note, has anyone come across a good copy of the wall live? When you see footage like what's in that clip from the above post, you know there has to be good footage of at least one of the performances on the tour. I wonder why nothing has been released?

Yeah, thats just not the same. I would be happy with a better copy of what I already have of the feb.28th show in New York. But seeing the footage in the clip, you know there is better produced video out there somewhere.

GAAAAAAAAY
In a radio interview earlier this year Roger (whilst on the subject of The Wall and it's future broadway adaptation) hinted towards a DVD release of an entire, original Wall show.

To whoever argued against Pink Floyd's live performances: Pink Floyd is one of the greatest live bands ever in existence. As a possessor of quite a few bootlegs from all points of their career, I can testify that Pink Floyd has always been amazing live. From the intimate jam sessions of their pre-DSOTM shows to the great theatrics of The Wall shows, no band can outstage Floyd.

Yeah, they officially filmed it on cinema stock, but thought they looked too dark. I'm sure it can be remastered and look pretty decent. I expected it last year for the 25th anniversary.

Yeah, I used to say that too, when I was spending hours every day archiving, designing cases for, and remastering my 100+ RoIO collection. Eventually, though, I realized how rough the post-DSotM performances up to the Wall years were. The Wall was great, but they had, what, nine musicians? PF1987Ltd just aren't Pink Floyd any more than Roger's touring band from '99-'02 was.

As far as I'm concerned, their live peak came at Boeblingen November '72. After Roger stopped with the mad Scotsman rants everything was downhill from there.

And The Who are the best live band evar. So there.

Many of MTV's viewers weren't even alive when Pink Floyd broke up, so Toffler said he was surprised at how many wanted to see the band's reunion performance in full.

As the complaints flooded in, Toffler said he contacted Live 8 organizers on Wednesday to see if some of the performances could be rerun.

I don't get it... they just make music.

Don't get what? The fuss over it all? People want to see some of the greatest artists of the 20th century performing and considering every performence is different, creating something new.

You could say that about any artist..he just paints etc.
