First Acts Revealed for Pitchfork's Intonation Festival

Rob Kleckner reports:
We report so much news that it's nice to break a story involving ourselves now and then. As previously reported, Pitchfork is curating the first annual Intonation Music Festival in Chicago. It will be held on Saturday, July 16 and Sunday, July 17, at Pulaski Park. The event will feature up to 24 acts, including a DJ tent courtesy of Biz3. We are proud to announce the initial group of artists will be:

>>Confirmed artists:
The Decemberists
The Fiery Furnaces
Will Oldham (special DJ set)
Broken Social Scene
The Go! Team
Four Tet
Magnolia Electric Co.
The Wrens
A.C. Newman
The M's

The gates will open at noon each day, and there will be no advance tickets (which means no dealing with the evils of Ticketmaster or scalpers). Admission will be $10 at the door and certain proceeds will go to benefit the Chicago Park District's after-school music programs. The park is located at 1419 W. Blackhawk St. Stay tuned to Pitchfork and the websites below for more information and updates to the lineup.

Sweet lineup so far. I'm going.

Hate the website, love that lineup. Shame I won't be anywhere near Chicago for that. Any of the Wrens, Decemberists or Broken Social Scene by themselves would be a good lineup.

Holy shit. I, too, hate Pitchfork, but of those bands that I've heard enough of, I love each one. Decemberists, Firey Furnaces, Broken Social Scene, Four Tet, Wrens, and AC Newman for the record.

That'd be one hell of a show for 10 bucks.

I don't think it's a matter of liking or disliking the people who curate an event when it comes to exposing your music to a wide audience. Pitchfork is terrible, but it's just a name.

that sad thing is each and every one of you probally download every single album pitchfork has given a 9 or more to.

I wouldn't be surprised if Arcade Fire makes it on that list. Seems to me that some of these bands had major hype (and sales) primarily due to Pitchfork.
[not counting wrens and such..]

And as much as we love to hate them, this is good gesture for music fans.

Looks like a fantastic line up so far... a friend of mine said he heard some Arcade Fire rumors too. Sadly, I'm not making the drive from Nebraska to go even if the price is $10 if its impossible for advance tickets. I'd never get in!

Nope. But I do love a couple of albums they gave 1 or less out of 10 to.... which isn't even why I hate them.

I hate them because 99% of their reviews are irrelevant to the content of the discs they review.
