Pitfall II level 2!

How many years i wanted to play level 2... about 20 years actually. Level 2 wasn't in the 2600 version, just the 5200 and 800 versions. Well, i didn't have either of those. Finally this weekend, after hours of searching for the proper... you know... i got to play it.

what fun. Drunken bats, piranas, giant ants, freelance frogs, platforms with multiple holes and a vulture on your tail. The design of the caverns is so much better than the first part of the game. This brought back such a feeling of exploration i hadn't felt in a while... and the fact that some of the obstacles are tough enough that you'll see a frog or something and decide to go the other way instead.

Anyone know what a perfect score in this is?... i need an impossible task to strive for now.

For years folks would look at me funny when I talked about how much I loved Pitfall II. Only later did I realize that I was blessed with the proper 5200 verison and everyone else had the vastly inferior edition.

And, yes, the second level of Pitfall II rocks the freakin' universe. I dunno exactly what a perfect game is - I can beat the hell out of it, but have never gone for every single gold bar or managed it without the occassional death. Obviously, I have something to strive for.

Yeah, now I gotta dig out the 5200 when I get home.

Why not try the Sega Arcade version.

I've never actually played it myself, though if the screens from it's KLOV entry are to be believed, it looks like an odd sort of combination between the original Pitfall and Pitfall II. Interesting, but possibly missing the glory that makes the extra level in Pitfall II so wonderful to behold.
