PixelJunk Eden out now on Steam

news from Steam is that the leaderboards were broken on their end over the weekend. However we did find a few small bugs in the viewing of the leaderboards so we'll release a patch for that and a few other issues today or tomorrow.

I get the feeling that Steam doesn´t record the gametime correctly for this. I feel that I´ve been playing it for quite while, but Steam says that I´ve only played it for 47 minutes. Am I the problem, or does Eden exist in it´s one space-time continuum? :)

Steam has problems with this fairly often, it's not just this game

Ah, ok. That might explain that.

You should tell Valve to let the game have some more exposure on the front page to compensate for that! :)

Whoops, wrong topic in my previous post. Been playing Eden for the past two days on and off whenever I can. Controller support is kind of a must, but the recent update says that it's coming, so it'll be great to see how this runs off a 360 controller!

Finally picked this up last night. I played through the first two levels and it was pretty fun. The music is great and I love the atmosphere. I had only played the demo briefly on PSN before so I don't remember what the controls were like, but the mouse controls for PC seemed really good.

I really want this to do well so we can see the other PixelJunk games on PC as well.

"Eden's full 17-song soundtrack, which includes unreleased tracks, will be available via DLC for $5.99"

Is there a way to buy the entire soundtrack on it's own including the unreleased tracks? It says it'll place it on folder: pixeljunkeden\Original-Soundtrack but what I want to know if it'll allow me to do so without buying the game...

I don't think so. It says that you need the base game to buy it. Isn't the soundtrack available on the PS store?

It's a shame that this game is being overlooked. I'm nr 6 on the global leaderboards and I haven't even finished Encore yet.
I haven't seen many reviews for it either. Rockpapershotgun and Totalbisquit usually review many of the indie games on steam but they haven't reviewed this one for some reason.

Okay, the
teleporters
in garden 5 (or was it 6) are kinda pissing me off. I can't figure out how to determine what direction I'm going to pop out, if that's even possible at all. I can't even get the first Spectra in that garden because of this. =/

I believe if you enter the right side of the teleporter going horizontally right, you will exit out of the left side of the exit teleporter going in the same direction, horizontally right. So, you enter one side going in a certain direction, and pop out the other side of the other teleporter going that same direction.

Yeah, really a shame. Rockpapershotgun even had an article last year asking indie devs to bring their games on consoles to PC, and now that Eden was realesed on pc they don't even mention it.

I just twittered about it, perhaps Rock Paper Shotgun will notice us.. right now it feels like only the core PJ fanbase know about us - as there is only a little trickle of people "discovering" it.

To commiserate and make us all feel good about ourselves again we decided to have a two hour prog-rock jam session at Q, the last 20 mins of which are here: http://soundcloud.com/eddietree/pixeljam-3 :-)

Steam is a tough market because everyone knows that sales will inevitably happen. You'll get the enthusiasts in the release window at normal price but the curious will hold on until the next seasonal sale.

And just to leave here my personal experience once again, the kb/m controls feel like a cheat mode compared to the PS3 version. I never got this far on the game and I will certainly complete all gardens as I'm having such a joyous fun experience with it. Whenever I got a few minutes I'll just chill a bit trying to clear another Spectra.

Yeah, wait until your first 75% off sale. It's all about volume on Steam.

Anyways, I just spent the last couple hours hunting spectra. I'm on to the Encore levels now. This game is awesome, so good that I had to buy a second copy to hoard in my inventory.

haha, thanks! :)

.

Yeah. It´s not that games only sell on Steam when they´re on sale, but the sales get it going. Look at games like Terraria and Dungeon Defenders, that keeps on selling at regular prices long after the sales have ended.

And in this case, despite the games obvious qualities and that even the normal price is a steal, you´re bound to be sceptical at first when it´s a four year old console game. I was at first also, but now I´m happy I bought it.

Is there any chance of getting profiles on this? Considering that the saves are on the cloud, there's not even a way to swap out save files to let someone else play. I'm also wondering right now what I would have to do if I wanted to start from scratch again, because I see no option to start over.

Another thing I would find handy is to be able to cycle through the gardens on the ranking screens. Going to each individual garden to see where you are is really not convenient at all.

Otheriwse, great game, am really enjoying it so far. :) Hopefully sales pick up for you guys in the near future.

I've been playing the game for the last few days and I'm absolutely loving it! The abstract visuals and different themes for each garden are incredible, as also is the soundtrack. It really makes me sad to see this game being ignored by the majority of the PC community.
I hope the summer sale helps this game, it would be a good idea to talk to Valve about it being a daily and, if there are achievements like there were in the Christmas sale, having a daily achievement as well. Lots of people buy games just to complete those achievements like many here can attest.

Good point about the achievements. That would definately help.

So I've unlocked the 2 other characters, how the hell do I switch to them? I can't find the answer anywhere online.

Has shooting silk been removed from the PC version? If not, how do you do it?

It's still in the game, you don't unlock it until a few levels in. You'll know when it's unlocked, a little tutorial menu should pop up. I have the mouse buttons reversed, but I believe it's mapped to the left mouse button.

Hey there, you can't switch to them, they are your friends who you are rescuing :)

We might patch something in at some point to let you choose though, just for the fun of it.

Still stuck in the same place...starting to feel like I'll never get the hang of what I"m supposed to do here. =/

I go in teleporter 1, and pop out of teleporter 2. I know I'm supposed to grab on to the grass (3), but I always pop out of the teleporter going pretty much straight down. And I can't find any other way to enter the teleporter from a different direction. =/

Can you swing into it from below to get some upward momentum?

That's...huh. I never thought about that. Don't have the game on at the moment to test it, but I'll try it out tonight and see if that works. Thanks!

Yes, basically you come out of the other teleporter with the exact same direction and power that you entered the first one with, so this becomes a little puzzle. Enter it in from below and you'll come out of the second one flying upwards.

In this case swinging and entering from below as suggested is the trick :)

Sorry for the double post, but I just wanted to say that it worked! Got the Spectra and have been able to move on! Thanks everyone! :D

<3 this game.

HiVision, I just wanted to say that I am double-dipping, as the repetitive nature of the PS3 version stopped me from completing the game. So happy that it's fixed in the PC version. I would say that these design changes should be publicized better, though. I only knew about it because of this thread, it would be a shame if people wanted those design changes but didn't know about them for the PC version.

You might want to PM Neogaf member Feep whose independent game Sequence was on Steam. He first released it on XBL Indie Games, where it sold a few thousand units (which I think was pretty disappointing to him). When he released it on Steam, it did much better, but I don't get the impression that he made enough to buy a Porsche or anything--but then when he was featured as a deal of the day over Christmas he said he did more revenue in that single day than the many months before-hand combined from Steam. So part of it is about being featured in sales and sort of generally building awareness over time. Since then he's been a downright evangelist for how well independent or small developers can do on Steam. Obviously due to NDA he wouldn't be able to tell you his exact revenue but I'm sure if you're worried about what the future holds he could probably sketch you a picture of his experience.

Things like the Humble Indie Bundle have been pretty amazing for developers as well and I bet if you approached the right people over there you guys would be a good pick--I think they required Mac and Linux versions, but I think most developers who have participated would say that the sales more than justified the porting costs.

From Steam thread:

YAY!

Pixeljunk Eden just added gamepad support / "Legacy Mode."

I was pretty bummed that it didn't have that at launch, I couldn't quite get the hang of the mouse controls.

Nice. I'll stick with mouse controls, but I'm glad to see that Q added the option.

Steam hype is weird. Rochard is an absolutely brilliant game that's getting zero buzz either. Seems most games need that viral component.

Yes, we added that, and we also added a few more languages (Russian ftw!).

Brazilian Portugese too (Eden has quite a few fans in Latin America).

glad this got bumped since i never saw they added gamepad controls. Will play this chillin from bed tonight.
