Pizza delivery...

What's it like? Is it a semi-decent job? I probably won't be able to live off of it, but I figured I should ask. My friend tells me things like I'll wreck my vehicle and a ton of repairs to make. Basically he said a good car will turn to a bad car after working pizza delivery. Is this true? I know I've read past threads about pizza delivery so I figured it would be a smart place to ask. Basically, is pizza delivery worth it? (btw, the company is Pizza Hut)

Well, the perks are when you have to deliver a pizza to this hot woman, but she doesn't have the money to pay for it.....oh yeah.......

I would bang a hot farmer!
My brother did this when he was in high school (16 years ago) and he said the pay sucked because of all the gas. I couldn't imagine how much worse it would be now with gas prices so much higher.

EDIT: He also told me that I'd be surprised at how many people only give whatever their change was (usually less than $0.50) as a tip.

Good question, what IS the appropriate amount for a pizza tip? I think I always over-tip...

I tip depending on how I feel. I really shouldn't have to give them anything, cause you know, they are doing their job. They get 2/3 bucks an hour and don't like it? Take it up with their boss.

I did pizza delivery through high school and some of college. About 4 years total. It was horrible on your car, but I made about $15/hour, better than any other job I could get while in high school.

The one thing that sucks is that your income is tied to you having a car. If your car breaks down, you can't work, which means no income, which means if you don't have money to fix your car you've got no way of getting any. And you're stuck. Make sure to keep a nest egg for repairs.

I did a few days of delivery a few years ago at Marcos. I made a lot of money in tips(at least $30 a day in tips) and Marco's payed for the gas. It was nice, I remember one time some rich, young dude ordered a medium pizza and when I got to the door he asked "how does it look?" and I was like "it looked pretty good to me" and opened it up and he was like "Yup, looks good, here, keep the change." The pizza was $8 and the guy payed with $20.

The only part for me that sucked is trying to find addresses. But after awhile I just requested that the people taking the calls ask the customers to turn on a porch light so it'd be easier to locate the house.

And you see PLENTY of hot moms on deliveries. :lol

Pizza delivery is great, you get roughly $15 an hour to sit on your ass and listen to music. But yeah, the only thing that sucks about it is if your car breaks down, your kind of screwed. Just to give you an idea of mileage, in a year I put 30,000 miles on my car.

Ugh, no thanks. If I had to go back to the minimum wage life, I'd rather work retail, at a warehouse, selling crap over the phone... fuck, I'd bag groceries, but I don't think I'd ever consider delivering pizza. Fuck that.

So has the legendary "...and then she invited me inside and we had sex" scenario completely fictional, or has it actually happened to anyone out there?

And *that* is why you must tip your delivery guy. They'd MUCH rather be working a cash register than beating on their car and hustling their ass thru rush hour traffic to bring you your food. They only do it for the tips.

I'm sure it's happened, but never to me. :D I've been given free beer at parties and been hit on by girls on delivery, but I've never had the porno scenario.

Oh well, then I'll go pick it up myself. It will be quicker, the pizza will be hotter, and the gas won't even cost 50 cents.

I delivered for Dominos for two and a half years during college. It is a decent job, but you need to be able to work under pressure, and to have the patience to deal with some flack from customers.

Including the minimum wage base pay, I averaged about $15/hour, which is pretty darn good pay in college. Whether that's enough to live off of will depend on the number of hours you work and what your living situtation is.

One big caveat - a good 2/3 of the pay comes from tips, and most business comes from the dinner hours. If you want to make money, you have to work the dinner or late shifts. Day shifts will be much slower and not nearly as much pay. Often people working dinner hours will make as much is 3 hours as other people did all day (from 10-5).

My friend tells me things like I'll wreck my vehicle and a ton of repairs to make. Basically he said a good car will turn to a bad car after working pizza delivery. Is this true?

How good of a driver are you? I never got into an accident or had problems - it's all up to your driving skills (and in part the town/city you are in). I did put on lots of miles - about 100 per eight hour shift. And your car will smell like pizza for a while, unless you have some mega-air freshener. (It goes away after a few days.) I would not use a super-nice car for it, just because of all the miles you will put on.

I know I've read past threads about pizza delivery so I figured it would be a smart place to ask. Basically, is pizza delivery worth it? (btw, the company is Pizza Hut)

For me it was yes. You have to work the busy hours, and tolorate very hectic and sometimes high-pressure work, but I found it to be woth it. And walking out every night with cash was nice. :)

I can't believe no one has mentioned the smell... sure, there is wear and tear on your car, but not only that it will STINK of pizza like all the time.
Not a good thing if you ever go parking.

I'd like to deliver pizza if i can't find another job this summer. Problem is I don't have my own car, but I always drive my dad's (he just got another). It's a Corolla ('98), is awesome on gas, and very reliable.

I figure he'll say no though, because it's his car. I wouldn't blame him either.

It happened to a friend of my father, His company where he worked was on strike so he had to find a sideline. It was in the '70 tho, he got at the room (it was in a motel), and two naked women opened up. The room was stinking of drugs and sweat. They paid, and they asked him if he wanted an extra tip. He declined, because his wife was pregnant with their first kid, and that he didnt want any of that kind of business :lol

One of the lady complimented him saying that it was good to find people with values nowadays. Hearing the same story from someone else would launch my BS meter to max levels, but he's a very religious man and he's really the last person in the world that would brag about something, or make up crazy stories.

I'm gonna go apply for a delivery job for a Chinese restaurant here...

Apparently free food is part of the job.

I'm fuckin' there.

Wonder how many people are gonna ask me if I'm Chinese if I get the job...[I'm half-Filipino]

Gotta get the AC fixed in my damn car though...ugh. Damn Texas weather...
