While the legality of such may be in question, I don't think asking about it is going to do any harm. And hey, anyone who can help me out can just PM me anyway. :)

With the popularity of shows like Takeshi's Castle and Spike's recent acquistion of Fountain of Trivia, I was wondering if there was any way to easily access the shows online. While I've seen clips of things here and there, as well as (obviously) downloaded gobs of anime, I've had a bit of a hankering for the whole Japanese game/variety show genres and it doesn't seem like there's a dedicated source for those online. I don't mind them being raws, I just really, really want to see them. :)

I suppose there are probably some IRC channels out there somewhere, but my ports are blocked for downloading from IRC. Can anyone help? :(

the only shows that get fansubbed are doramas. drama.afraid.org for those.

if you have a ttv rebroadcaster in your area there are a couple game/variety shows they air, usually friday/saturday/sunday nights. i don't think any of them are subbed though.

Well, duh. I wouldn't be asking the question if I could go to Japan, but I certainly wouldn't make the trip JUST to sit around watching TV all day.

Yeah, Drama's OK, and I'll look into it, but I think the variety and game shows are what I'm more looking for. It wouldn't hurt considering I also have a class project coming up for Japanese Language in Society focused around the implementation of Japanese text/subtiltling on-screen during television programs. We've got some material already and we may just tape the episode of Fountain of Trivia airing next Thursday, but hey, anything would help.

maybe........ or maybe not. just didnt know you had an advanced japanese language class. i mean, i have a friend whose wife is japanese and she's always clamoring for japanse television (especially the variety shows and dramas) i personally like the sakura show. ( i think it's a drama) about that american/japanese girl who moves back to japan and has to re-learn her culture all over again.
the show's pretty good and in the grand tradition of GAF i'd give to her until she looked like a puffer fish (or something) .......................

i drank too much sake. i'll leave now.

I think there's a P2P software called Winry... It has most Japanese TV shows and most fasubber's get their raws from it.

Yeah, actually I'm probably going to end up double-majoring in English/Japanese (English being my primary major, with a focus on film). At the very least I know I can get a Japanese minor, though.

Oh, and thanks for the recommendations on winny and the PM RiZ. :).
