Played Xbox360 demos at Walmart

yes!!
and it made the games look blurry....
i dunno if it was the tv though
because the trailers were crisp but kameo was just blurry...

Here is a link for confirmed Wal-Marts, I will call the store in Elk Gove Village/Schaumburg IL area at lunch.

Honestly, the clip that blew me away the most was the Need for Speed Clip. It looked really good on that big of a screen. It makes me wonder if that is what actual gameplay will look like, or if it was pre-rendered.

I actually played the thing the other night at a press event in NYC; I was going to create a thread about it, but I know Gaming-Age sent somebody to the event, so I was afraid of maybe upsetting folks by pissing in the pot.

Anyway, the game does looks nice, but it was running at 30 fps which hurt things a bit. But the game was really dragged down due to the controls which were both unresponsive and too touchy if that makes any sense.

I went to the Walmart on that list on Tuesday and they didnt have anything up. But they now say friday, so i'll go up there this saturday to check it out.

Well, I went to Wal-Mart over lunch and to my surprise, they had the Xbox 360 demo unit.

It had 3 demos and many videos for upcoming games.

Kameo: Beautiful looking. There are certain scenes that make you go 'oooohhhh' as they look fantastic.

CoD 2: Really nice looking game and very smooth (60 fps.) The thing that comes to mind for this demo is "really clean and sharp graphics" and "awesome environmental effects."

King Kong: DAMMIT, I WANT THIS GAME NOW! The game has to be seen in motion to really notice how good it looks. The screens don't do it justice at all. Simply put, while it definitely still looks not quite next gen as, say Kameo, it does look really nice. The thing that really stands out is the environment and how beautiful and lush it looks. The T-Rex looks good too, but the character models are definitely lacking.

I didn't spend too much time with it because Wal-Mart puts the screens at quite the high angle and my neck was killing me when I stopped playing.

The controller is fantastic. Feels like the perfect size and it just fits perfectly.

Hopefully I'll get a chance to go by my Walmart again tonight or tomorrow to see if they've got the kiosk up yet. On Tuesday, it was no where in sight.

HDTV's do not make the games look blurry.

Could be that the TV and Xbox 360 were not configured properly. The system could have been giving off a 480i signel and the TV was configured for 720p and it was causing some odd fuzziness/soft image. You would think they would have someone set it up that knew what they were doing and Microsoft would give exact instructions on how to configure, but it could have something to do with it.

The demos I played and videos I saw were far from blurry. They were definitely hi-def and looked very sharp and clean.

Probably a specific setup issue with that demo station.

Exactly what I was thinking. Having just bought an HDTV and an HD-Tivo, I've gone through the process of setting up the equipment and getting it looking right. It's not hard for someone who knows technology and has done a little research, but the average person working at Wal-mart probably doesn't have a clue.

(Apologies to all GAF Walmart employees! :lol )

peoria (pending setup)

i can think of at least 3 walmarts in a 20 minute driving radius (2 of them superwalmarts), i wish this was more specific

I think the kiosks look awesome. The blurb said that the stores wouldn't be getting them until next week, so it's nice to see that some are getting them in early.

Anyone remember the "overheating" problems that the original kiosks had years ago?

I wonder.

damn if all the wal marts get demo units it might make it tough to get one there by the time launch comes around. hopefully price of the bundles will play a factor in that.

I ran into Wal-Mart the other day for the first time in forever. Shit loads of people, screaming kids, and everyone talking as loud as possible... I felt stressed as hell by the time I was walking out 5 minutes later. Don't make me go back.
Man! I'm glad I'm not alone

What the hell kind of demo stations are those? They have the console sitting on a shelf and the controller glued to the display case door?
Most stores have kiosks like that because they're cheepos.

They don't have money for full sized kiosks.

That is....IMO.

The local Wal-Mart has one that just loops videos over and over. It doesn't look as impressive as I thought it would, although the console itself looks nice, and the controller feels good.

The games don't look as good as they should, but that could be the LCD screen.

OK GAF i just got home from the dayton ohio location and got done playing this sexy piece of hardware.........

onto the games

PGR video same one of the gotham tv that was released a couple months ago

NBA2k6 the trailer was from the E3 footage, you know the one that looked like xbox footage. i was pwned hard when it was starting i was telling my casual gamer friend to get ready to be blown away and he was like, "was that xbox footage"

Kameo was decent im not really to interested in the game though

GRAW old ass footage

COD2 meh ...totally dissappointed with it. my stock pc card ati x600 ran it better than the 360. is anyone else getting sick of the african level. im still picking this up day one cause the atmosphere is awesome

top spin looked decent in closeups

NHL :lol
NFS looked pretty decent as well as TD:U but my racer slot is filled by PGR3

my neck hurts from standing an looking up for 15 minutes. it wasnt one of those sweet kiosks, they had it hooked up like all there other displays.

1. i dont think they plugged the HD cables in they may have used the composite set. it didnt look all that great
2. they may not have configured the dashboard to output HD to the tv because everything was letterboxed WTF the tv wasnt that big anyways, it was a smaller samsung than those in the standalone kiosks

if microsoft is trying to get people to buy the systems why the hell would they send old ass footage to show off to the public. i mean even the newest movies of NBA2k6 would blow most people away and they wouldnt notice all the glitches. they would say did you see that ass sweat and the way his shorts moved

microsoft is dropping the ball by showing this stuff to people who are on the verge of dropping 400 dollars for a system

harware time
controller was teh hotness as was the look of the system. they had the remote displayed in the case too, it was a premium pack with the HD. unit was bigger than i invisioned. i cant believe its only a month away

im surprised they didnt have to clear out all the games in the case to fit the power supply in there :D

My question doesn't deserve its own thread so I decided to stick it on the end of here.

I have a Xbox360 on preorder but I seem dumbfounded by the secrecy. This is my 1st console to purchase on launch and theres hardly a lick of news out there. No suprises, hardly any threads on the games. Is this normal? I was around for the PS2 launch but this just seems dead to me.

There's plenty out there, but this forum thrives on the negative so if you're not seein alot of threads its because are waiting on negative stories.

i wasnt meaning to come of negativly, i mean im definatly escited for the system, but the demo disc was terrible. the only thing it was missing was wallguy. i was just so hyped to play it and was let down big time

MS drops the ball again when they try to showoff their stuff to the public. it boggles my mind why you would show 5 month old, beta hardware video. im completely boggled.

the supercenter on brandt pike. im just so dissapointed right now, i was so hyped and everything on the demo is at least 4 months old.

a side note, the blades and the presentation were slick

Thanks, I live in Huber so thats right down the street.

The demo must really be crap because COD2 runs at 60 fps and looks better than the PC version running @ 720p. Sigh, now I don't even care to see these kiosks considering the playable stuff is shit.

Seriously, everyone in the Xbox marketing department deserves is nice swift punch in the nose.

How the fuck do you expect people to buy your "HD Era" game console, when you are having stores show it off on a freaking 13" monitor, behind a display case???

What an absolutely pathetic operation.

it wasnt in a case, it was 8 feet off the ground so you can look up at it with your neck bent back almost looking straight up at it. i was thinking more about my neck hurting then wanting to play the games, and what the hell is up with 2 playable demos :lol

im sure eb games or gamestop will be getting the nicer kiosks and will actually know how to hook it up right. i swear it looked as if they just used the composite inputs and not the component. the guy was prolly like what the hell are these green, blue and red cables for

there are alot of similar posts on the TXB. Supposedly there is a switch on the cables that enable output at regular TV signals or an HD signal. Apparently, alot of the cables out there are not switched to HD mode. Someoen should train these reps or whoever to make sure the shit is setop right, and the switches are set to HD. Alot of people are gonna misjudge the games and system over a stupid thing like a switch o nthe wrong setting.

The Walmart in Skokie,IL(across from the Village Crossing Mall) has the 360 demo unit setup.

Ditto on the neck pain. The screens being placed like that are great for bystanders, not so much for the players.

Kameo and Call of Duty 2 looked and played great. King Kong, not so much(although when the T-Rex came after me in first person and I was close to it, it looked really good).
