That's pretty much how Solo plays. But I take it as encouragement to try and slow down, make sure I check corners and stuff. I will be happy with standardized foliage if only because it might mean a solution to the problem I have where 90% of the time I end up in second-to-last/last circle, it's in an area with no cover and I used a vehicle to get there, someone wings me as I drive around, and I realize that there is absolutely no safe spot to stop and heal. Even wedging myself between a tree and my car ends with me immediately being shot in the head from a mile away by one of the last players left.
note: the exception to this is the time where I was driving around on a mountaintop in a UAZ, I actually did find a probable spot, but my damaged car skidded into a tree at about 5mph and exploded in a fireball (which I didn't even know was a thing)

Was able to bump the shadows to medium and I got a small framerate boost. Overall performances still suck though. I think I need more ram.

Just picked up this game recently and I'm getting somewhat used to controls, but I have no idea what the hell I'm doing strategy wise. Should I just try to get my bearings in solo or should I queue into squad games to ease myself in?

Surprised if they push console version out before they have been able to finalize PC version and optimize it. Especially when they have made point out of being small team which limits their capability to e.g. address netcode issues within UE4.
Just a sidenote: Mike Ybarra (Xbox VP) tweeted out someone on Beam streaming it, and in the chat he asked the streamer if he was up for playing it this weekend with him and Spencer on stream. Not sure if it'll happen, but interesting either way.
Xbox Preview is like Early Access, so I can see them using it to get it out early to help optimize the console version.

If anything, I'm seeing worse performance after this patch. It's basically unplayable indoors and in big towns now.
Should I give H1Z1 KOTK a go if I enjoy this? I own it but never played it.
I read it's a more casual/arcade approach? I would actually enjoy such thing and I can see them both living side by side.
Post processing?Can't get my game to look right now. With the extra grass etc everything looks blurry. AA is set to low, ultra low makes every jaggy as hell. It's actually making the game impossible to play as I can't see anything that's not right in front of me.

yeah I thought so, but I have only found LOADS of UMPs and Uzi's and but no Vector's at all :/

If you are running any launch options remove those, some reported on Reddit that removing launch options improved performance.
