Playing MGS2 for the first time...

I do not understand all the hatorate people chug for this game. The only explanation that makes sense is that the haters are just bitter that you don't play as Solid Snake for most of the game.

Right now I'm enjoying the rookie/old hand relationship between Raiden and Snake (er, "Pliskin"). Rose is sweet, but I do wish she wouldn't just call out of the blue for no apparent reason. I also don't understand how on earth Colonel Campbell doesn't recognize "Pliskin's" voice.

Ah well. Havin fun. Screw you haters. :)

I liked Metal Gear Solid 2, but I can understand why others wouldn't. Most of the boss fights are lousy, there are too many codec sequences, the balance between gameplay and narrative is uneven, and the narrative takes a drastic turn in the final act that may be too odd for some.

When you finish the game, you will understand I guess, but I still love the game and the story. It's not as bad as lots of folks make it sound. The graphics are still awesome even today.

You'll see about Colonel Campbell too... :lol
 
You'll understand where the hate comes from in the last 1-2 hours of the game. I enjoyed MGS2, it was one of my favorite games of this generation but I can see where others would be dissapointed.
 
Rose was like the annoying girlfriend from hell. It's like.. Dude, I'm in the middle of a mission, stop calling me and asking me annoying questions! She really got on my nerves. I feel sorry for guys that really have girlfriends like that.. =x Raiden wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed.. though honestly, I found that to be rather funny most of the time. Plus the whole streaking thing was entertaining.. Not the best but it was enjoyable in my opinion. :)

My thoughts were the same as yours, almost exactly...and then the end. O dear gosh the end. I still have no idea what the hell was going on. Enjoy the part of the game that makes sense while you still can my friend.
 
Sorry, I hated it for valid reasons, and not just because Snake took a backseat to Mr. Fancy Pants.

The Shell complex is one of the most horrid locales in gaming that I can think of:

"Raiden. I need you to go to A to B to A to C to B to D to A to D to B to C to A to B to A to B to D to A to D to B so we can get the job done. Good luck."

I agree, it was good until it hit a certain point and well........just finish the game and post after that.
 
Shitty bosses, HORRIBLE story, and some of the worst level design in any "AAA" 3rd person game I've played. Ever.

The tanker was cool. That's it. IMHO, of course. Easily the weakest in the MGS series.

No hyperbole. I'm not a huge fan of the series, but I moderately enjoyed the original (particularly the second half of the game.) MGS2 was a disappointment in every possible sense, to me. I got into it REAL late, maybe a year ago or so... Blech.

It's like the old saying goes, if you honestly think MGS2 had some of the worst level design in any "AAA 3rd person shooter. EVER." (how can it be AAA with the worst level design?), you ain't played enough games yet. So that is my task for you, play games that are actually shitty for comparrison!
 
I put quotations around AAA in my post, thus signifying how questionable I found that particular claim. I also didn't say 3rd person shooter. Heh.

Yes, 3rd person game makes the claim even worse, if you could imagine that!
 
I really like MGS2. The story was incredible and very well done. Graphic were nice (and they still are) and the soundtrack fits.
The game even excuse the A to B gameplay because remember it's in fact a "real life training" for Raiden. I also liked to play with Raiden. I prefer Snake as a character i incarnate in a game but according to the story of the game, it's awesome and well it fits to play as Raiden.
One option that would have been nice and could have been included AT LEAST in "substance" would have been "the snake quest". I would have been interesting to actually play through the game but Snake side and see everything that happened to him during the story.

We already knew that, the real task is figuring out just how few games must be played for that claim to ever be true! ;)
 
That claim can never be true, it's merely my opinion. However, feel free to browse my game collection to get an idea of how many 3D games I've owned. I've played at least some of most of them. I've posted the link around in just about every "Post Your Collection" thread in NeoGAF, I think.

The lamest parts of the game:

Solid Snake suppoesdly dead, but comes back as Iroquois Pliksin? Omgwtfbbq

The patriots, an illumati-like organziation that runs everything.

The Big Shell is actually Arnesal Gear.

The Ninja being Olga.

Revolver being in cahoots with the patriots.

The Colonel and Rosemary being the the computer of Arnesal Gear.

The whole thing being apart of the Patriot's ploy.

Olga dying.

The patriots died 100 years before.


All in all, it's much better than the crap known as MGS3. I would rather play the crap Drinky plays than that.

I really wouldn't be too surprised if he did it. To be honest, i'm actually expecting him to die in the next game. Rather it be by Raidens hands, Ocelots or FoxDie finally catching up to him.

I'm selfish, Snake cannot die.
 
I like homoerotic overtones as much as the next person, but I'd prefer if the main character was a MAINLY STUD like Snake.
 
Getting back to MGS2, i'm still surprised that they included
the golden shower sequence in the game. It was just so over the top and hilarious. Stuff like that makes you wonder why some people get upset over certain events not being "realistic" and "serious" when the entire game was meant to just be over the top and bizarre.
