I personally don't think it has anything to do with the 4. I think they'll just adopt the Apple method of scrapping the numbers and sticking with the brand. The Playstation with a simple update to the original PS logo.

We've been over this already. There's really no precedence for this anywhere in the Japanese games industry (so many titles that have 4 in them). Just forget about it. If it has a different name, it will be for different reasons.
I just think it will have a different name. Maybe just "Playstation". I would fucking hate that, but it happened with Movies, Games...everything.
I think they might include the name "Vita" somehow...

Now why the hell would i want to voice chat with someone that is on his Xperia-phone? And the whole party chat thing, i'd hardly use it - because when i'm playing Battlefield 4, i don't want to talk to someone screaming how fucking hard and brutal Demon Souls 2 is.

Yes but A lot of people do want voice chat. I couldn't care less about it but lots of people do and has been a big target of criticism when it comes to the Playstation 3.

But I have an iPhone5 and an iPad3. So its pretty redundant IMO.
That would probably be enough for me to not support it. There was already a PlayStation and it was a magnificent system.

What if the PS4 IS THE CLOUD?!?! Using Gaikai's tech couldn't they just stream PS4 quality games to PS3 at this very moment? PS World would be a way to stream everything to your PS3, no upgrade needed! PS3 could stay at it's current price, Sony could improve their profit margins, and everyone, except those who don't have bandwidth, would be happy!

That is a completely diff argument from 4 = playstation is going to kill you.
Personally I hope they continue with the numbering system, that is the easiest way to not confuse the casual consumer. As for Apple their product updates are so incremental a whole number change is not usually justified

I think the message they're trying to send is one of unification. I think that's a good thing. They really need a proper service to connect all their devices at the core.
hop off until the conference? Its not going to be a massive amount of data unless you HD it.
Everywhere will have it to watch or download later. All the tech sites, youtube... etc.

I don't understand why it would be called anything other than the Playstation 4/PS4, like we had the Playstation 3/PS3, the Playstation 2/PS2 and the original Playstation which was latter called the PS1.
I'm honestly curious: if Apple's iPad move was that great, why didn't they stick with that strategy for the iPhone?
The iPhone 5 was announced and released after the "new iPad" had hit the stores.

I would be completely fine with this. Do it Sony. I'd pay for PS World too - just keep online play free.
but then nobody is buying nice new hardware and accessories. For a hardware company... Thats death. Also its not a great idea to cut out 90% of your customer base.
