PlayStation Mobile Thread of Indie Games, and Apps on Android/Vita

Will we see any releases tonight!?

I know Nostatic Soft has a game approved but it takes 2 weeks to get it on the store. Has only been 1

So I guess that's two weeks in a row without a new release? :( Sony doesn't even update the banners on the PSM section of the store anymore, it's been over a month.

I grabbed Quiet, Please! today though, because it's $1.80 (AUD) and I had about $2 in my account. Went to play it and was prompted to install a new version of the runtime package. Was around 7 MB.

Regular PSN didn't even update today in America.

I've submitted my first PSM game in the past few days so it will be a while before it releases, but the future isn't completely barren!

It's called "Tileogo" and you can see information and a trailer on it at my website.
Reuploaded gif: (As with all app adverts, this is a case of "sequence shortened and steps removed", but I thought it was better than just a screenshot or link to a video!)

I wasn't really concentrating while I was recording this gameplay, so I make some strange decisions on which tiles to move, see the trailer for better examples! You basically have to move the tiles to match up the triangles, with complete sets of four earning you tokens towards an extra round. The highest number of extra rounds (on top of the starting 5) that I got while testing was 12, so you can keep things going for quite a while with clever moves (and a bit of luck) to get high scores.

Looks cool, let me know once you get approved. I can time an interview to go live on launch day.

My piece on PSM sales. Most developers didn't want me to share specifics for obvious reasons.

The real question is why they sell so badly.

Do we have comparative numbers of how other titles sell on iOS or similar PSN games like Nun Attack?

I would bet that mediocre quality, small market, overpriced and separate store play a huge role on it. Sony only has a saying on half of those concern though. It's disappointing because it's a great initiative.

That looks pretty good. I'll have to keep an eye out for it.

Will do, unfortunately I've got a couple of annoying issues to fix that came up in Sony's testing so it'll be a bit longer than expected. They're things I can't test either, related to splash screens (that only appear in the final version on the store, not during development) and Android behaviour, but one of the staff on the forums is having a look into it, so hopefully I can get it fixed and resubmitted soon.

Glad you like the look of it! The basic gameplay is fairly simple, but I'm hoping the awards system and the allure of beating high scores will add longevity and the whole system of getting extra rounds should mean that you can keep getting better and your high score will keep increasing as your skills improve.

Hopefully they'll add trophy support at some point and I can convert the awards into trophies. I don't really care for them all that much myself, but there's no doubt that sales would experience a healthy jump if PSM games acted as a source of cheap trophies. I don't know how big the serious trophy collecting community is, but I'd be surprised if sales wouldn't be reasonably positively affected. The increased awareness and coverage that would result from it would also hopefully draw people into the service.

The main issue is of course Sony having to essentially "open up" the PSN more to other devices, something I'm sure they're wary of (with good reason), and there would have to be some sort of "fair use" quality control to stop hordes of apps that are essentially just buying a pack of trophies with no gameplay or challenge associated to them, but I'm sure it could be done. They've mentioned trophy support in the past, so I'll remain cautiously optimistic.

Their main priority should definitely be opening PSM development and purchasing up to more territories though. (And possibly removing the requirement to translate store pages. It's bad enough getting translations for the ones at the moment, but if you needed to support all the other European languages as well then there would be a lot of Google translated nonsense on the store pages!)

I dont know whats coming, but according to the psblogcast there should be a few new psm games launching this week....so i guess its not completely dead.

Still i really have to wonder what the expectations are for the platform on the vita front, i mean I dont think many bought a vita to play games made for phones like these. Atleast with stuff like Dragon Fantasy they redid the game to take advantage of the vita. Psm games dont really do that, so its hard to imagine high expectations for these releases.

There are 3 managed titles slated for April

omg, 2012's GOTY Pinky Spots Leg Massage just got a pretty massive update.

It is all In-app purchase shit. I guess they are actually making money off of that game in Japan.

I saw your post there. A lot of people get their submission rejected because of long initial load times, even though that should be covered by splash screen or loading message no matter how long it is. A mod explained that but the submissions still get turned down.

I have 7-8 seconds initial startup, didn't change anything and they stopped listing the startup time as an infringement when I referred to the thread in the dev forum with Mehul's explanation.

Good luck with the other issues.

Welp, we found out why there hasn't been any new releases in the past two weeks:

There has been a delay in the release of PSM applications submitted with SDK 1.11.00 due to a delay in the release of the latest Runtime.

The submitted applications will be released within this week. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Didn't an runtime update break Flick Hockey? Which had to be patched...

I probably wouldn't update the runtime unless you need to run a game that needs the newer version.

ok here is everything.

Bolded are the ones I bought. Only had $4 in my wallet

Australian store is missing Luminis and Visualize for whatever reason. We got brg though, and it's ridiculously fucking expensive (about $7 US).

Might grab Rush Cat and Kung Fu Fight.

Wow, another running game involving a cat. Well, I guess that Neko Rush game isn't out yet, but there was that cat girl that loves mackeral game from about a month ago.

And 16-bit trader looks like it's the first PS Mobile title we've seen that took more than a month to make.

Noticed Kung Fu Fight is on Android as well. Gonna try it out there and see if it's worth buying.

Edit: Ugh, no thanks. It's a runner type game. You run automatically and you either attack, slide, or jump to avoid hitting different types of obstacles. A bit difficult, boring. If you're even the slightest bit off on your presses you get hit.

16 bit trader is on iOS, unfortunately not free there and can't find any reviews of it.

I brought 16-bit trader but probably won't play it too soon :D
come on guys, stop being so stingy, the majority of these games are >$2.

Wow, an actual update this week. Crazy.

The icon on my phone changed from PSM to Playstation Mobile - #gamechanger

Ah brg is that GAFfers game - i'll have to buy that.

Rush Cat is not exactly one of those games. You don't play a level endlessly, there are 30 different levels to complete based on 3 different themes. You collect food and that affects your score depending on how many you collect. You need to collect a minimum amount to proceed to the next level (you can select all levels from the menu once completed). You control the game entirely with the touch screen which surprisingly works really well after getting the hang of it. I've done about 15 levels so far and really dig the game. It's totally worth buying if you're not afraid of cute things and appreciate touch screen usage when it's done properly. It feels like the game is short but it has some replay value with the scores you get for each level.

While getting Rush Cat, I also ended up buying Life of Pixel and Out of Mind. I've done about 70% of Life of Pixel and really like the game. Sure there are levels with a lot of leap of faith, the controls are not always responsive, but the rest is so good that it doesn't hurt the game overall (imo).

Out of Mind is an odd one out, I got this out of curiosity and did about 2 levels. The game's style is weird but in a good way. The game is good and feels a bit more like Metroid games with the power-ups and map displayed. The character controls a bit odd where the movements can be too sensitive, but so far it hasn't been too much of a problem with a bit of practice. This game seems overlooked, more people need try it out!

My interview about brg should be going up today.

Nice. Store update came earlier than expected.

Sorry to everyone about the price. I noticed it was too high before it went up but after it changed to preparing for release, at which point I couldn't change it anymore. The moment it went up I could input a new one, which has now finished review and is preparing for release. I guess we'll have to wait for the next store update for the lower price to be reflected in the store. I hope it doesn't take two weeks as with the first time...

If you're interested at all in purchasing the game I recommend waiting until then!

I've resubmitted Tileogo now, with the issues fixed. The rejection information was a little confusing (it stated that there were 17 seconds of black screen before the app started, which I took to mean that the splash screen wasn't being displayed for some reason, but it actually just meant that the initial load was simply too long with no progress bar), but the staff on the developer forums were very helpful and so fingers crossed it will hopefully get through this time! I'll post back here when I know whether it's been accepted.

With all the negativity surrounding sales figures I'm looking forward to seeing how it sells (especially as this is the first commercial game I've released), but keeping my expectations low. Personally if I make back the cost of the publisher license plus my website domain cost then I'll consider it a success, but I hope Sony work on things like extra regions and improved PSN integration to make it a more viable platform. Improved performance (possibly by phasing out the lower end Android devices from the PSM certification) would be handy as well, and might be necessary with the upcoming Unity support.

Congratulations extralite.

Can't find Luminis, Visualize and Penguin Party on the german store under the recent tab.
Looked for Luminis under puzzles and didn't find it (store really needs alphabetical listing and search functionality).

Also how can a game like Luminis get approved? That name is way to similar to Lumines and it looks like the gameplay is similar.
