PlayStation Network Thread (Vita/PS3/PS4) | August 2014

After watching roughly the last 1/3 of a playthrough of Hollow Fragment streamed by someone I know, I'm fully convinced that everyone recommending it here was trolling.

PSN having issues for anyone else? Son can't play FIFA unless we turn off the PS4 Internet connection. With the maintenance tomorrow I will need to be online sometime today so it'll work, right?

Having big issues here. Does the game just crash? I've tried to launch Fez & Strider and the games just crash.

Can't access store or friends list on Vita here

Okay it's not just me then. Online games just hang at launch screen and I can't sign in at all. I thought my PS4 was dying.

Thank god it's not just me, I thought my PS4 was dying. Locked up when I tried to load up trophies, then after turning off and back on none of the menu would load up, just the blue wavy background. Now it's pretty much un-useable because it doesn't know what to do when all of the UI is calling on the network. It's crazy how much the system feels like it's dead when it simply can't connect to the network.

Hey all. How's Unit 13 for the Vita and Little Deviants?

Don't buy Little Deviants.
About Unit 13:

cons:
-generic design
-not many enemies and maps
-complete lack of story mode

pros:
-many missions that lasts a lot more than the average tps/fps story mode
-different mission types require different gameplay, for example time attack missions and stealth missions require completely opposite approaches.
-it can be addictive
-challenging
-missions goes from short to long, from easy to hard ones(especially if you aim to have good grades, necessary to unlock certain things)

Too bad developers didn't make a story mode, making a sequence of some of the already present missions with some cutscenes between them would have been enough and the game would have been received really differently.

Anyway Imo you can't go wrong if you buy it for cheap(and like tps).

It has been done.

SSD on PS+ next month confirmed.

Argh, the constant crashing in Borderlands 2 is really pissing me off. How did this get through cert?

Aye, it's rough. Make sure you have all the patches installed (the latest one fixed the Bloodshot Stronghold, who'd crash for everyone), wait for the textures to pop in when entering a new area, don't mash x to buy ammo and, when playing solo, set the game to offline (press select on main or pause menu) or put the Vita on airplane mode. These things improves the game's stability a bit, but doin't expect miracles.

Is there an extensive guide on the PS4 camera somewhere, including the firmware update additions? Just got one on the cheap and would like to know what current games support it. I know there's some DLC for the Playroom but I can't get on the service at the moment. :P Do voice commands work during movies? Like play, pause etc.?

I was looking for info on Neptunia Rebirth online since the game releases on Tuesday, and noticed that there is no OT for it on GAF. Is anyone working on it since from what I gather the series has quite the following :P

I hope someone does make an OT, I'm playing a review copy at the moment and enjoying it greatly. Flawed, but fun. :)

Would you say it's worth it for anyone who hasn't played the game? I have the extra money, but I'm also playing through Xillia 2 now, and the week after the next there's Danganronpa 2...

It's hard to say really, as far as I'm aware it's the first in the series, and from looking at videos of the original PS3 version this re-styling is greatly improved. The game is very grind-heavy at points and there are times when you'll reach a new area and be severely under levelled with little prior warning, but there are good incentives to re-explore previous areas and levelling up doesn't take long. If you don't mind grinding I'd say its a good bet. :) The characters and dialogue are great (though the text is very small, thankfully the OLED makes it readable), and the way the game universe parodies the actual games industry consoles is very charming too. Quite fan servicey as well. :P

I heard there's DLC for it too but not sure what it is yet. Costumes, probably.

Thanks for that, although very positive I may actually pass on it for now. You aren't the first saying that the game requires quite a bit of grinding, and right now I really want to see Xillia 2's story to the end, before Danganronpa drops. I will to pass on it for now, but eventually I will have to give it a try, it being the first game of series and all, with refined systems to boot. Maybe after I finish Danganronpa, seeing that the amount of releases that I'm getting slows down quite a bit I will buy it.

I find the English dub pretty good to be honest. Only Noire's voice grates a bit, thankfully she doesn't have too much voice acting. :P
Next to the music, I found that to be the most ear grating thing in the game.

The English VA killed idea factory's wonderful localization Imo

Also i think Noire's VO is steak girl from persona

I feel lucky that I bought from the flash sale early to avoid disappointment. Golly moses I wake up today and try to download God of War II (already had before the sale!) and I couldn't :(

selling the sealed/brand new physical retail copies of some of my most cherished games (I have them digital... undecided on those I got from PS+)

GAF, am I doing this wrong?
will I regret this?

(1) I do need the spare cash
(2) It will clear my shelves of clutter
and perhaps help me let go of things and move on

So can I earn trophies? I'm about to finish Persona 4 Golden and I don't want to miss trophies while the PSN is down. It saves on the Vita so I should be okay right?

I played a little to the Crimsonland demo(8 quests, i have to try the survival) but at the moment i still prefer Dracula Undead Awakening(PSP Minis) to it

Crimsonland feels slower and blander to me, especially the environments, Dracula has more interesting looking environments and enemies.
Dracula lacks on contents and has only survival modes but it's really addictive though.

People recommend SAO but when I checked the OT for that the first advice was to go away if you haven't seen at least half the anime. I haven't seen the anime so I won't buy it at all.

Crimsonland was the original game in its formula (360° aiming, leveling for perks, survival in an arena) so of course it may seem a bit dated.

IT HAPPENED!

I'd like to thank the collective prayers of Vita GAF as well as me sorta trying for it during this playthrough.

Holy fuck the emotions right now.

I'm going for my second playthrough right now. And then a third...Messed up getting a True Ending on my first. Hope I get HRF.

I hadn't seen the anime either but I've played .hack before, so that was enough for me to take the plunge.

A few things to ask:

-Will the cash come in handy right now? Will having it actually change anything?

-How many of these games do you have? Could you hold on to one or two of them and sell the rest? This comes back to question one, however.

-How far back is this collection? And how far did you plan to go? Unless you planned on quite literally collecting everything in the library... I'd suggest you only hold on to the ones you truly want to keep.

Actually that may not help much, but it's what I'd ask myself. :p

Honestly, I started doing the same recently. Now, I would NEVER sell a physical game I don't own digitally, because I have heavily regretted selling some of my Genesis/GBC/GBA/N64/GCN games (systems from when I was a kid and I could only afford new games by selling old ones). But if I have a game digitally and can go back and play it, that is what matters to me, not the physical item.

What I do make sure to do, though, is have everything digital physically downloaded to my PS4, PS3 or PC (for vita games, all are backed up to my PC) at all times. If I have it downloaded, PSN could go down or even cease to exist 15 years from now but it is the same as physical in that I can play it, unless it is an always online game (which I couldn't play with retail anyway).

You say you need the cash, so I say go for it if you can get some good money for retail stuff. At least to me, the major memories are tied to actually playing a game moreso than looking at the box on my shelf. I love looking at my boxes, specifically my full Playstation physical Final Fantasy collection, but I would certainly be fine with my digital collection of that as well. I love my epic full page on Vita of every FF game from 1 to X-2.

Top of page: Don't buy anything cause PSN is down and I am cry.
