PlayStation Plus Thread: Plus What? PLUS EVERYTHING!

It's like I download a .zip file off PS3 and on XBL I download an already unzipped file.

Same reason applications on a Mac run from a single location but Windows applications spread themselves around the OS. Bizarrely the 360 is more like a Mac than a Windows PC in this respect.

The technical reason is that the 360 can execute disc images (e.g. like an ISO) and that's effectively what you download. A PS3 download is more like a zip or tar and all the many files inside need to be extracted and saved in the correct location.

This is also the reason why 360 disc installs are faster. When you install a DVD on 360 it is just saving an image of the whole disc. On PS3 the OS has to find each file on the BD then copy it to the right place in the OS.

I do hope the PS4 downloads are like this, or background installs. Installing AC3(PSN) took 30-40 minutes.

Interesting, never knew that.

Why is it that the EU store has 13 free games, not 10? oO

So has EU plus stopped adding PSone games or something?

Me too. If they don't address this they are foolish.

Although Vita games do require installing....

The install process on the Vita is completely different. For example you don't need 3GB free on the memory stick to install a 3GB game, and it's actually super fast.

Sounds like your HDD is failing.

I hope not. I looked up the support article at us.playstation.com and it said to boot in safe mode and rebuild the database, so I did that and started the download again.

Apparently, router issues can also cause it for some reason (according to Sony's KB) so if the install errors still occur, I'll try again with the PS3 directly connected to the DSL modem. If that fixes it, I guess I'll be in the market for a new router. :\

Where are you supposed to download the Cubixx HD trial from in the EU store? PS+ section has the full version unlock key for free, but I can't find the trial.

Also my Dead Nation PS3 game on the download list is now a PSP game and I can't install it on PS3. -.-

Easy solution to this is go to account management and download list, rather than from the store. It's stupid but that'll make it work. Always do that when you're downloading games again from PSN.

What is this rebuilding the database business? I've heard it referenced several times as a solution to problems with PSN.
The system maintains a database of all the files on the hard drive and all the metadata (id3 tags & folder settings). Sometimes it gets corrupt and needs to be rebuilt. The system should notify you at launch if you have a corrupt database; you can also rebuild it manually by going into the recovery menu.

trial is available through search

It's not if you're PSN+, it's the 6KB unlock key. There's the normal Cubixx but it's 2,99 and not a trial.

I ended up downloading the trial from another account that didn't have PSN+. Sony really needs to fix these issues asap.

That worked. Thanks.

If there is content on PSN that is free for Plus members, how would one purchase it at it's normal price? Not at home to check via the Store atm, but wanted this clarified ^_^;

Don't buy it when its free, and buy it at normal price when ps plus takes it off its list otherwise - buy it on an alt account.

You can't, you have to wait till your sub ends to purchase it at the normal price. It's really stupid. The worst thing about it is if your account has an item you got for free via PS+ and it goes on sale in the future you can't purchase it if your PS+ sub is still active.

Anyone wanna give me some tips on upgrading the HD capacity in a PS3 slim? all these PS+ have me deleting alot of stuff to make room, I want access to all of them!

Here's a guide. Also make sure you get a 9.5 mm drive, a 12.5 mm drive wont fit.

Also, make sure you be VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY careful with the blue screw or you'll want to kill yourself. Buy all the screwdrivers and needlenose pliers ever. Seriously. The blue screw is awful, particularly if you have an older system.

I've upgraded in both a 60GB original system and a 160GB Slim. If you apply significant pressure and dig the tip of the screwdriver into the screw, it's really not an issue. Apply constant, firm, careful pressure and don't rush it.

Also, don't use a screwdriver with a head too fat to fit. Bad idea.

What Sony REALLY needs to do is get rid of the download demo + download unlock system. It's so tedious. Surely there is a better way.

It used to be that all demos were separate downloads from the full games. That sounds nice, except demos are sometimes several gigs in size. This method saves bandwidth in the long run.

I had issues with the screws on the HDD enclosure on the PS2, but I used a #0 Phillips and had no issues with either my 60GB or original release Slim.

The correct tip is key, and a #0 Phillips is the exact tip you need.

Course you cant. Sony want you to keep resubbing to keep playing them.

There’s more exciting news for PS Plus right around the corner (hint: PS Vita owners, and to-be PS Vita owners will love it), so stay tuned to PlayStation.Blog for more exciting PS Plus content coming your way. Until then, I’ll see you in the comments!
So hopefully they announce that we get Little Deviants later today so I can stop checking every couple of minutes. M

In respect to the new stuff for US PS+ I will probably play Quantum Conundrum and really do not have a lot of interest in Machinarium. I actually think I own Machinarium from a humble bundle but haven't even downloaded it.

Funny I got Machinarium free from EU PS+ with those month code mining =/

They give NA a discount, ROFL!

US keeps putting discounts on games they released at full price not too long ago.

I wouldn't have thought that was a very smart idea, really.

Same as retail, really. Early adopters will always, erm... early adopt. Discounts are the Natural response to sales lag.
