I wouldn't continue to pay for the service unless it started to have day 1 games like Stacking. If they add one good quality day 1 psn game a month then I'll pay them yearly for PSN. But if it's just scraps of games I wouldn't even want, then it won't be worth the money and I'll cancel. On one hand, sure, you're getting 12 x $10-15 games for $50, but on the other hand, you're not choosing the games and you might not even want/like half or more of them offered.

I'd also like to see discounts on EVERY new PSN game. At least 33% off. Like Bionic Rearmed 2 should be $10 if you're PSN+ instead of $15. Stacking was a great first step, but they need to build on this to make the service more attractive to the people who've been thinking that it hasn't been worth it up until now.

$50/year to get a 33% discount on everything you buy? On top of the free games and other stuff you get for that $50/year. You have got to be joking. Have fun with those unrealistic expectations.

33% off store wide makes the breakeven point on Playstation plus so low with only the discount let alone all the free content that everybody would sign up. If that happens, it's no longer a discount it's the regular price and developers would just adjust the "regular" price as a result.

Do you work for Sony?

Since when is a service being a good deal that encourages people to sign up bad for the consumers?

There's a good deal and then there's pie in the sky unrealistic hopes.

Plus right now is in good deal territory. Discounts on some day 1 games and DLC, big name and small, a mix of free new and old games, free and discounted DLC... not even counting PS1, minis, themes, avatars and so forth.

I am 7 months in or so and have already earned back well over the $50 I spent. In freebies I actually wanted and discounts making the extras just icing on the cake.

There are some big questions to deal with here, especially with how PS+ has changed the system.

For example, every time something is offered for free (or even discounted) that I've already bought, it bugs me a little. If I'd truly bought EVERYTHING offered so far, I'd be kind of peeved. So things that were marginal for me ... like Costume Quest ... I let stay in the store. I'm betting on the chance of a discount or freebie in the long term.

If you do change your behavior, then what's that changed for the other parties? For example, has Sony basically agreed to a lower but consistent revenue stream from me? Are the developers getting paid any more or less because of the effect that PS+ has on buying behavior?

Finally, will PS+ stay a static system? Can it? When will repeat games go into heavy rotation, or is there enough new stuff coming to keep it supplied without repeats?

I'm fascinated by Sony's choices, and will be amused to watch the whole thing regardless. :)

This is a little off topic but I'm trying to sign up for PSN+ and my credit card on file was expired. I've tried entering 2 different cards into the billiong info, and I keep getting a this card is not valid message I've double checked everything does anyone have any ideas?

I've become less likely to buy something unless it's on sale

There have been some issues with how Sony's system expect your address. I haven't encountered this personally, but you might search around for that kind of thing.

Alternatively, use a PSN card, or a PS+ account card that can be found at some retailers.

I would say sales have made me wait far more than +. That and increased variety.

Some games I still get day 1, particularly with + discounts. But knowing games will likely go on sale 6-12 months after release makes me wait sometimes if I am on the fence to begin with.

I guess I have started making more bang/dollar judgments than buying stuff day one all the time.

My card will no longer be accepted if i format my address a certain way. My address is something, something boulevard. If I spell it blvd it rejects it and only bvd is accepted. Or the other way around. It essentially only accepts the official post office spelling/abbreviation which you can look up on the address finder on the post office website. Even though on the card account and bill its listed a certain way, the sony site requires the post office spelling.

My PS3 is at my lady pal's place and she was interested in getting PSN+ to get Stacking, so I got three months for her as a gift. But I'm now looking at the other offerings and my reaction is: "That's it?"

Why isn't there more good free stuff on this thing? Why are year-old full-game trials only one-hour long? Perhaps next month will be better, but yikes, is this really all there is?

I'm not saying Xbox Live is much better, but I thought PSN+ was supposed to be a good value.

there's been lots of good free stuff, just because you waited until now to sign up doesn't mean Plus sucks you're just late getting to the party

Seems like you didn't do much research. It's a rewards program, not a service like XBL. New stuff get's put up weekly, not monthly. Sony announces what the new content will be every two weeks, and they also announce when content will be taken down.

So you're saying that, at this current time, PSN Plus sucks. Gotcha.

Thanks for clarifying. From what I read, I was under the impression that the updates were monthly.

Yeah. I recently got in to Plus and:
1. Is not Xbox Live, and is not supposed to be. Anyone assuming that is just wrong
2. There has been some really nice bonuses (like free full-game LittleBigPlanet to the recent Lead and Gold)
3. Stuff is changed every month, so just because there's stuff you don't like now; doesn't mean there won't be the next (Stacking alone was enough for many).

Heck, I got it around 2 weeks ago, before the announcement of Stacking and I already downloaded stuff covering $30, on a $18 subscription. Recently; Stacking. So $45 in downloads out of $18 is quite a nice value. And still have 2 more months; so the amount could easily go up to $100.

;)

EDIT:
Yep, monthly as in taken down every month. But new stuff pops here and there every week; Tuesday...Grace Chen Time.

Free stuff isn't free stuff forever, you have to jump on it when it becomes available. Otherwise eventually most of PSN offering would be free in a while. It's free and yours as long as your part of the service, but past free stuff offers have expired.

No problem, just signed up myself. Wish I did in December when they were giving away Sam and Max Season 3 for free.

Would be killer if they gave away siren blood curse
They did, well at least outside the US; Japan I think it was.
Only the first 4 episodes though. There are 12. In any case I already have them all; so no..I don't want them to give Siren for free. :p

How is Xbox Live any better? As far as I know you don't get any discounts or free games with Xbox Live Gold. No ESPN3 whatever doesn't count seeing as how I can get that completely free on computer. So that pretty much leaves voice chat. Yeah... no that's not on the same level as free games and discounts to me.

It sounds like you want to turn this into a comparison debate over something sujective, but I don't mind addressing a few things. And yes, so far I think Live is better.

First, you're wrong about the discounts. There have been countless ones that gamers actually want over the past year on Xbox Live. Some things I've taken advantage of include Super Meat Boy, Mass Effect 2 DLC and Lara Croft and the GOL, to name a few. Currently the discounts on PSN Plus appear to be pretty lackluster or on mediocre stuff, but that'll hopefully change in the next few months.

Can you find cheaper prices than retail for PSN Plus subscriptions online? (I'm genuinely curious, since I can only browse on my phone since yesterday.) If not, that's another pro for Xbox Live, since if you wait and search around, a Live subscription can be much cheaper than Plus. Perhaps that'll change as time goes on.

I could also bring up issues with speeds of either service, but I suppose those topics have been beaten to death anyway. Substiantially shorter updates also help the experience with Live here.

Anyway, there's just a few points for my reasoning, and my thumbs are now tired. Maybe my pereceptions of Plus will improve over the next few months, but right now, the offerings are pretty disappointing.

xbl has had some really good discounts in the past year. mass effect 2 DLC, all borderlands expansions were half price about a week ago, they usually have discounts basically every week. now its true that great discounts dont come around every week, but i would say monthly there is something worthwhile that you would want.

this point shouldn't be brought up at all.

Because I was recently collecting some data, I have stuff at my fingertips. This is for PS+ U.S. since launch:

Free Avatars: 16
Free Dynamic Themes: 10
Free Minis: 16
Free PS1 Games: 9
Free PS3 PSN Games: 11 (Wipeout HD, Critter Crunch, Mushroom Wars, Zen Pinball, Burn Zombie Burn, Shatter, Sackboy Prehistoric Moves, Sam & Max: The Devil's Playhouse Eps. 1-5, Lead & Gold, Digger HD, Stacking)
Free Qore: 8 episodes
Free Static Themes: 18
Free 60-minute Trials: 10 (inFamous, Red Faction: Guerrilla, Warhawk, Tomb Raider: Underworld, God of War I HD, God of War II HD, Prototype, Borderlands, Mass Effect 2, Assassin's Creed II Deluxe)

That excludes all the discounts, like a day-1 discount on Dead Nation, among other things.

If you create an account and subscribe to Xbox Live Gold today, what kind of discounts are you looking at? What games do you get for free?

So I tried my first Game Trial, and wow...this works so much better than demos. Tried it for Mass Effect 2, and I really like how the game warns me that I have 30/15/5 minutes remaining, as well as carrying over my saves/trophies to the full game. The ME2 demo left me feeling cold for the game, but the one hour trial won me over.

Man, I hope we see more games that utilize Game Trials. It's a great feature to have.

Do you have a raw value on how much this stuff totaled in terms of dollars? Or at least USD?

Buy it the day before a round of stuff expires. I finally got mine the day Lead and Gold, Spyro 1 and some minis were expiring. I've had it less than 2 weeks and I've gotten an absurd amount of stuff free already.

I don't get why they remove the 1 hour trials over time. If they would've kept them, it would turn out to be a great incentive for anyone to join in say, 1 year from now.

They don't remove them, or at least they don't remove most of them.

I still can't buy a one year sub.

Sony, put the option back up on the UK store and let me buy one.
I feel like I asked this already ... do you have 1y sub cards in retail stores there? I realize it's dumb for Sony to make this hard, but that *might* be an option in your case.

Mind you, I don't think we know yet whether you can stack subs.

Plus subcribers check your PSN inbox.

Just got the Flying Hamsters mini as a Valentine's Gift from Sony. Pretty cool :)
We still can't check messages outside of a PS3 itself, right? Grrrr.

Oh shit, my sub ran out yesterday, no more golden plus. It was fun while it lasted.

I have to say, despite talking a lot of shit about Plus, it's a pretty good value. In just the three months of sub's, I got to games and content that were worth like 5X the cost of Plus. Yeah, the games are just borrowed, but you have plenty of time to play through them if you want.

My problem is that I had too much to play already, and because of that I hardly touched the free PSN games which are definitely the biggest part of the Plus sub. A few of them, like Stacking, were relevant to my interests but I never had the time to fit them into my rotation. The discounts on games like Dead Nation was a nice touch, though.

It's a respectable service, though, you actually receive content rather than paying for access to locked-out features, which is not respectable. I'm not sure if I'll resub. If I do, I'll probably go in for a full year but as of now I simply don't have enough room in my gaming rotating to justify resubbing. Any PS3-only gamers should definitely give it a shot.

I haven't seen any in any shops I've been into and no online retailers sell them.

I want the year sub to save money. I don't want to keep on having to renew a 3 month sub.

I saw it on the forum that you can. I'm on my phone or else I would link you.

Hey anyone else get a Valentine Gift from PS+

It was really sweet of Sony sending me a PSN message with an attachment of a mini, Hamster something (too keep, not associated with PSN+)

Really cool, was really surprised, (^_^)b, good job SCEA you gained 7% in approval rating from me, went from 65% to 72%, was @50% before, but stacking free made me givem them 15%+

Should have looked up in the thread before posting this, oh wells

I got the free Mini too!!!

Awesome, more content for my future NGP!!! PSN+ is the best thing i've paid for as a subscription service.
