Man. I'm a bit surprised at the amount of comments this got on the PSblog. Either defending PSN Plus or just complaining about it. And I'm guessing with the poll, it shows that at least more than half is satisfied with this week's update, so I think its getting better, right?

Well, I was not expecting SSFIV: AE at all, but I'll take it, just let me clear whole bunch stuff of my hard drive, hah.

all my sf4 shit was on my ps3 before it died. Now that I got another one, I didn't want to buy AE again for the 4th time.

Yeah, that kind of takes the steam out of the announcement for me. I've only got a 60 GB hard drive, with only about 10 GB free right now. I could clear up a little room, but nowhere near 26 GB worth.

Since I've got SSF4 on disc, it would be nice if they could give the Arcade Edition update for SSF4 as a freebie here.
 
I'll upgrade my PS3 HDD this month due to PS+ basically, I have a 60GB now and in addition of size if possible I'd like to have better performance.

Do you suggest 7200, a bigger cache or both?
 
I've bought a second PS3 to station at my parents' so they get a Blu-Ray player, Mum gets Katamari, and I get a games console at their place without having to lug it all the way over for when I visit them.

The huge downside at my parents', though, is that they don't have usable internet. It's a harshly-metred satellite link, so I want to do as much as possible on the unit while I have it here on my speedy unlimited connection to prevent impinging on their download caps.

I fly next week, so I'm currently trying to get all my Plus stuff onto the unit (It's downloading like crazy at home and has been since Saturday!).

My question: What do I need to do to make a game sufficiently recognised by Plus that it'll download patches overnight? Is downloading it okay, is installing it okay, or do I actually need to run it? Obviously I need to run disc titles to get them recognised, but even then: If it *needs* a patch when I insert it, can I cancel the patch download and have it complete in the background?

Is there an easy way to identify what games will autoupdate?

Is there anything like on Xbox where (I believe) patches expire after X other games have been run since then, or are they permanent?

Permanent until you delete them.

Just boot up a game and quit instead of patching it. Then Plus should download all the updates on the next update.
 
For the love of all that's good and wholesome, just get The Heist patched before you go. The patch is as big as the game ... 3GB!

ps+ only patches upto the last 10 games you booted up that have patches, but you can set ps+ to come on at the current time turn your ps3 off wait 5 or 10 minutes and stop ps+ autoupdate and the updates appear in your download list, pause and continue repeating this if you have a lot of games to update

Boot game
Cancel patch
*repeat as many times as you want, up to 10*
Set PS+ auto download for current time
Turn off PS3
Let auto download start
Cancel auto download
Say hello to patches downloading in the background

UK; we didn't get Payday (and for that matter, I've got it on PC :-)

Besides, isn't it fairly internet/multiplayer focussed? Wouldn't really work with the aforementioned bandwidth issues.


(Further aside: I wonder how much bandwidth the downloading-levels component of LBP uses, because it'd be a great one to show off. Actually, much the same for NintendoLand's Miiverse integration, although that discussion doesn't belong here. So much planning!)

I would love the next gen of consoles to have a Steam-like interface where it lists all the games you own and highlights those that are currently downloaded. Would make things a lot easier to use. The Xbox is closest, but there's still a bit too much clutter.

That didn't work for HSG:OOB

The game boots fine, but it doesn't attempt to download the 2 gigs in patches until you select online play. PS+ didn't bother to dl it overnight.

That's because this game was released before the PS3 even had an OS-level patching system. Other early titles like RFOM and Motorstorm are the same. The devs were forced to come up with bespoke patching mechanisms. Unfortunately there's no way that can be automated by PS+.
 
Idiot me got a free code for ps+ and it was for EU only and not US. Not a big deal, but I dont want it to go to waste. Quote this post for the code. Its good for 30 days.



Also, does anyone know what's the cheapest I can get a ps+ for?
 
Deleted basically every big game and demo on my drive to prepare for SSF4AE. That size is insane. Was thinking of getting that 25th anniversary bundle just to have all those games on my PS3 as I already have them all on 360, but thankfully it's not that big of a temptation anymore.

I've downloaded entire games just for an hour trial. My old PS3 had a 320 gig drive and this one has 250. I didn't bother thinking about swapping the drive out but now....I don't know. I have a 500 gig hdd from my mbp that I can use ...but that means I have to back up and restore everything all over again >_>
 
Welp, looks like I won't be able to get Street Fighter after all. I can't free up more than 20 gigs out of my 80. I've deleted all the video I had, and even most of the games. If I deleted the last couple of games it would still only give me maybe 5 more gigs, which still doesn't reach the whopping 36 gigs required to download and then install. No clue where the rest of that space is going.

My PS3 has been a Blu-Ray player that I left home for my family ever since I got it just for MGS4. It was only when I got a Vita and PS+ that I've been using it more often. I never saw the need to upgrade the drive as I play everything on 360 and PC usually.

Have you checked your gama data folder? It's at the top of the Game column, all the patches and retail installs are kept in that folder.

That's a good idea, I did delete some saves but that only got rid of 11 MB. I still wonder if I will be able to kill off 10+ gigs out of that game data though.

I'm a seasoned 160GB fridge cleaner. I've downloaded a few full 15GB+ euro PSN+ games and deleted them again as I realise I probably won't play them for months, if ever. Not a problem as it only takes me 2 hours and I don't have bandwidth caps. Surprised SF4 is so large though.

It's the way the PS3 handles game downloads. It needs 18 gigs for the install file, and 18 gigs for the actual game data. After the game is installed it deletes the install file and you get that space back. Because :lol Sony or something. It's frustrating sometimes, especially if you have a smaller HDD.
 
Ever since ive signed up to Playstation Plus i now get a shit load of 'corrupted data' files under my game tab, even if i delete them they just come back the next day, anyway i can fix this? really annoying.

Yeah, absolutely. The PSN download list is a joke and couldn't be more impractical, especially compared to Steam. A nice list with some filter options and some sort of gallery/virtual shelf to give you a sense of collection should be the minimum.
