PlayStation Plus Thread: Plus What? PLUS EVERYTHING!

You're not going to get a solid easy answer to that question, because the updates each month are different and the grass is always greener etc. etc.

I don't think either of them are a bad deal. EU PS+ has given me more games than I could honestly hope to have time to get through - I'm sure the US version would have done the same.
More specifically, which one gives better games for VITA?

This isn't a direct answer, because honestly I don't know aside from saying I love the games we've been getting in the EU - but it's worthwhile taking sales into consideration because the US blows the EU apart in that department.

Guys, is EU PS+ better or US PS+?

I recently brought a VITA and want to settle on any one of them. I am leaning towards EU but i would like to hear more before i make this decision.

It is pretty random depending on your own personal taste in games, a lot of people swear by the EU updates but they haven't had a single game I had any interest in or didn't already own in months.

I have gotten far more moneys worth out of my US sub then I would have if I was on the EU lineup, but that is mostly because almost everything EU gives out I already own compared to getting a lot of stuff from the US lineup that I don't.

I would suggest taking a look at both lineups for the last x number of months and try to figure out which one seems to give games your interested in that you don't already own more often and go from there.

Cool. Thanks for the reply. My friends are on US PS+ and they suggested me to do the same. The account switching on PS Vita doesn't make it any easier =/

Noted. Thanks for helping out.

*Assuming the 360 system on a chip/100% Backwards Compatibility rumor is true*

As for my own feelings, I think BC goes a long, long, way. I'm actually kinda pissed at Sony for not putting the cell and RSX processor inside the PS4 for BC. It's killed my PSN purchases dead in their tracks, knowing I won't be able to move them across to PS4 when I get one. I simply cannot understand Sony's decision to build up so much good will with PS+ offering the Instant Game Collection service for free, to turn around and not have PS4 be able to take advantage of that. It won't be able to offer PS3 games for free as part of IGC, for example, and I can't see them offering any launch titles for PS4 as part of IGC etc.

So what happens then? We're stuck playing "only" what launches on PS4, waiting for more games to trickle down the line? Meanwhile with their system-on-chip built-in 360 hardware, 720 owners will be able to play 720, 360 and whatever Xbox1 games are compatible with 360's spotty BC. And I believe the 720 will be able to play BluRays too? Way to shoot yourself in the foot Sony. Seriously.

I imagine the PS3 hardware would have added an additional $100 or so to the price tag. Besides, I doubt they'll stop putting PS3 games on Plus right away.

BC doesn't matter (with a HUGE asterisk after it).

Yes, there are people who would LOVE to have BC.
Yes, there are people who will forego buying the system at launch because of lack of BC.

For the latter people, their sales will be replaced by other hardcore early adopters who aren't basing their decision on that. Some of those will consist of the former people.

For the former people, while they would love to have BC, it will either mean that they'll make the purchase anyway, or they will postpone the purchase until the new system itself has adequate software support.

All in all, the number of buyers in each of those two categories who simply won't purchase the system EVER as a result are very small.

And no, this isn't just for Sony. You want a non-Sony example? Wii U. The most successful system of this gen (Wii) and BC hasn't helped sell the Wii U at all. Now it could be pointed out that Wii software support was on life support by the time Wii U hit.. But let's look at the 3DS and the DS (I believe the DS is the most successful handheld of all time). MASSIVE support with the DS at the 3DS launch... yet 3DS sales were still SLOWER than DS sales (actual unit sales).

BC has traditionally been a sales tool.. it encourages transition to a very small degree.. but I think if MS, Sony and Nintendo learned anything this gen... it's that there isn't much reason to make it a focus. If you can sort of incorporate it, great (360, Vita). If you can completely include it, great (PS3, GBA->DS, DS->3DS, Wii->Wii U). If you remove it, it probably won't kill your sales (DS, PS3, and GBA all saw sales increase with new models with BC removed)

The early adopters who eschew the lack of BC will be replaced by other early adopters. The number of lost users over the system's life is practically inconsequential.

Oh yeah, but that then dictates that I have to keep my PS3 under my living room TV instead of in a different room so that it's near the router. The Slim is still wired-internet only, right? I would have liked the option of either BC on PS4, or wireless PS3 to still take advantage of PS+/IGC from a different room in the house.

?? all PS3s have wireless lan. Or do i get you wrong ?

Yeah, all PS3 models have wireless capability. My own slim PS3 is connected to a router which sits in another room. You must have gotten something wrong.

Downloaded MALICIOUS...

...

...

I don't get it? It seems a weird cross between Panzer Dragoon and Dynasty Warriors. Way too few moves. And no idea what I'm supposed to actually be doing. Also do yourself a favor and go into the control settings and invert both vertical and horizontal camera controls because the default settings are bass-ackwards.

Got my eye on the GTA games on PS+ discount, more specifically the PSP games as I might like to play them on the Vita. Anyone want to comment on how well these games translate over to the Vita? I haven't played Chinatown Wars, Liberty City Stories or Vice City Stories, so I'm curious to know how well the gameplay and experience are overall. Should I just pick 'em all up, or is it recommended to skip some of them due to crappy overall gameplay?

You're supposed to kill the boss. You kill smaller enemies to charge up you powers and the use them on the boss, and you gain additional powers for each boss you defeat.

So how the hell do I play Malicious? There's no tutorial and all I have is some weak fists and a worthless ranged attack :/ and the camera STAYS locked onto someone, how do I make it free if I can at all? I don't know what the L1 button does really because it pops up once on screen on what it does then never again...

I think you can ask that guy in the middle of the hub world for information on the gameplay mechanics.

Im surprised at how many people don't understand Malicious. Well it is pretty unorthodox I guess.

All very true and astute observations, but I don't think this upcoming transition is like others. The examples you listed (barring handhelds) all saw substantial graphical leaps. Most notably, they all went from sub-HD to HD. Also, BC in that sense is taking about physical discs/cartridges. That isn't the case here.

I've only played Chinatown Wars, amazing game on the Vita. Loved it.

Yeah. bought Chinatown Wars. Been watching some Youtube vids on he other two... they look fine I suppose. And I guess $10 isn't too much to ask. Just hoping the controls on the Vita won't be too bad. I do wish they could work out a way to allow you to use both sticks.

Yep, this is the first generational console switch that's happened where digital games have mattered. You can't compare it with others when you take that into account, unless you want to just talk about PC. But then that just makes Sony look silly, so there's no point in that.

Nope, digital games might as well have shipped on discs, as far as the console is concerned. If the next gen console isn't backwards compatible with the previous generation's retail games, then it also ain't compatible with the previous generation's digital games, since on the technical level they are the same thing. No amount of customer whinging will change that fact.

I'm not arguing that fact. I understand the technical hurdles. My only contention is that customers do in fact care, despite whatever feelings we've had before. The only reason it likely won't be as much of an issue this time around, is because both Microsoft and Sony (Sony to a greater extent) fumbled the ball. Neither seemed to have much foresight and didn't anticipate the digital marketplace becoming what it is. Highly doubt it'll happen again.

I dont see why the system-on-a-chip approach that MS is rumored to be taking is placating any of the BC concerns given that, as rumors have it, it will cost $100 anyway. For that price I'd rather just keep my console, particularly if the dongle is bulky in any way.

Didnt know thomas was alone was crossbiy. Seeing as eu gets it as a plus freebie will it just be the vita ver or vita+ps3?

I have a question about the lord of the rings game of the eu ps+, is there a way to assign points to members without using them?
I like only the sorceress and i want to continue only with her, i don't want to use the other two only to assign their points.
