It’s time to see which PS5, PS4, PS VR2, and free-to-play games topped the download charts last month.

March was a good month for sports and action-adventure games on PS5. Assassin’s Creed Shadows and Split Fiction both found success on the US and EU charts, while MLB The Show 25 took top billing on the US charts.

Do you realize how huge Baseball is in the US?
And you realize The Show doesn't usually take the top spot. Especially when there are other releases that month. While baseball is big in the US, The Show isn't exactly a massive seller. I think it usually averages around 2M-4M WW in its lifetime. An Assassin's Creed game should not be losing to it, in other words.

And for April it'll probably drop down to 6 or something.

MLB 24 was the #1 selling game for March last year, bumping Helldivers 2 out of the #1 spot (it was the 3rd best selling game that month)
In March 2023, MLB 23 was #2 behind Resident Evil 4.

So you're way off base in your assessment. If you need Shadows to beat a yearly sports series to not be considered a flop, though. It did beat Fifa EA FC 25 in Europe.

Game was released last September. If folks are still looking for it on lists in April then I'd say it had a pretty good run.
Also, this is the download list. It seems (according to the UK charts) be still doing decently physically. Because bundles, yes, but that's how it works.

That's not old. Should still be in the list, it's a better game than most of the other games.

Yeah, it is great, but six months for a single player game is pretty dang good. Games like Spider-man that are on these lists for a couple of years is not the norm.

It's a shame that these kind of games are only succesful on Nintendo consoles. On Switch this would be an easy 15m+ seller.

No, Helldivers 2 beat MLB in March '24. It was #1 for NA and EU. Might want to check your info before posting.

And Shadows beat a game that came out last year? (Slow clap)

Here you go buddy. Now I'll give you this. This is dollar sales, and MLB was more expensive than HD2. However, it was still #2 in downloads.

I'll end this by reiterating my point. MLB is huge in the US. And It usually does all the numbers in March. So it's not surprising that it beat Shadows this month, especially with a week's head start.

AC Shadows was the #1 PS download in EU, #1 in Australia, and #8 in Japan. The game didn't exactly flop.
This just in: Still #1 in UK as well

This doesn't prove anything as Helldivers 2 launched on February 4th, a whole month before, hence the number 1 rank last month in the chart you posted.

It's not meant to prove anything.

That table is showing $ sales for the Month of March. If you look at the last line in the header(blue row) it shows the reporting period (March 3, 2024 to April 6, 2024). So on the morning of March 3rd, everyone starts at 0, and at the end of the day on April 6, they look at how much money each game brought it. In this example, MLB 24 has higher $ sales likely because it was a full priced game whereas HD2 launched at just over half the regular price of a PS5 game.

No, the launch month of the game is where the bulk of your sales are going to be made, with the exception of evergreen titles and similar outliers.

MLB 24 topping the charts over Helldivers 2 was more due to its debut launch month rather than it's price.

Also someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I though the Npd / Circana charts are ranked in Dollers sales, where as the PS charts, Famitsu, and UK sales are in units sales.

Circana covers everything. This specific chart happens to be dollar sales. In units, MLB 24 was #2 and HD2 was #1.

You and I are saying the same thing in 2 different ways.

MLB always does really well in the March or April it comes out. In 2022 it as #2 behind a lego Star Wars game, in 2021 it was #1, and in 2020 it was #2 behind the the first Modern Warfare remake. These are all PSN top download numbers.

The point I've been trying to make is that coming second to MLB on PS the month it comes out isn't as bad a thing as it was framed in the original comment I responded to.

You're changing the parameters to try and win an argument you are losing. This thread and chat is about Sony's own sales charts, which are based on hard data about the amount of units sold, not NPD's estimates based on revenue. So why change it? We both know the answer to that. And using Sony's data, Helldivers 2 was bought more on the PS Store than MLB in March of 2024.

Not trying to argue or win anything. If you keep reading you'll see that I posted this:

EDMIX

Writes a lot, says very little
I mean something is fucking hilarious about AC Shadows being in the top spot not only on physical but also digital and even in Japan no less for several weeks....

I mean.....what did we learn? Lol
6a6.gif

The amount of delusion regarding people thinking they can get 20 million people to not buy a video game is absolutely fucking bonkers

That's like me telling you how much I dislike how expensive the switch 2 is or even the weird design choices Nintendo made and then fucking act like I could somehow magically sway a 100 million people into just you know not buying it because of my own personal opinion...

The list of IP I'm not betting against

AC series
Call Of Duty
EA FC (formerly Fifa)
Madden
Grand Theft Auto
Nintendo in GENERAL

lol Listen, I need to fucking see massive, real, SOLID evidence that the core majority care about any of this shit before I bet against any of those IP selling based on shit that has no relevance to the actual game itself.

and fucking respect to Split Fiction being in the top spots!
