[Golgo 13]

What are some cool podcasts you guys listen to, that ARE NOT political?

Like most normal and sane Americans, I believe the political discourse in this country has become overwhelmingly toxic and so now I refuse to expose myself to it any longer, so I'm asking for suggestions for Podcast recommendations that aren't political, but are entertaining.

Yes, in our society this is a tall order since politics has invaded most aspects of everything, but off the top of my head I can think of a few that aren't political, that are worth listening to.

Tim Ferris (personal achievement)
Jocko Willink (talks a lot about War and Discipline but stays out of current politics)
Pete And Sebastian (comedy)
Conan O'Brien needs a friend (comedy)
Hardcore History (great for history nerds)


I'm open to suggestions from any realm, just quality discussion where I can learn or laugh.

Nice, I'll check it out. Always down to learn something new. One of my professors recommended "Freakonomics", don't know if you've ever heard of it. It's also business related.

Correct. He reads short stories and then gives his thoughts on them. Typically about 30 minutes to an hour each episode.

Oh and to add to my list Ever AFter with jaleel white. He interviews former child starts about hollywood and their life since.

The Lorehammer podcast for Warhammer 40k Lore on Spotify is quite fun, but I have only been following for a few episodes now.

What kind of lore casts do they do? I have never played Warhammer (love the models though) but have really started to enjoy the lore online, specifically through YouTube. My go to is easily luetin09 and on occassion onemindsyndicate but videos come out some what rarely due to their high quality.

To the OP, here are a few podcasts I like:

Mysterious universe - sort of mystical, ufo, bigfoot type stuff that really doesn't take itself too seriously.

Nearly all the Parcast stuff on Spotify - these guys have it down to a science, the shows range from medical mysteries to mythology to series about stuff like the Kennedy family. I think that their best personality is Ashley Flowers, she does a really great job. Most of their stuff is available in lots of places other than Spotify too, including on Plex.

Asimov's science fiction - a discussion on his books. It's pretty fun.

 

[Halcyon]

If you ever get into true crime there are ton of Serialized shows that are fairly interesting. ie: Serial, Dirty John, S-Town,Dr Death. I like Sword and Scale but it is very disturbing most of the time.

Lorehammer is much more in-depth, and has gone on longer, but Adeptus Ridiculous with Bricky is hilarious.

I would check out Science and Futurism with Issac Arthur. The guy put his physics degree in hold to go enlist in the service during the 2nd Gulf War, came back and finished his masters, and now makes long-form youtube videos about wild topics. The crazy part is that unless he's specifically telling you he's not, then he's speaking in terms of known physics, and he talks about things like mining stars, making black holes, and speculation on the societal effects of post-scarcity civilization. He's really helped me get my ideas in order for a homebrew campaign setting.

For some reason podcasts about movies work really well.

Myths and Legends is fun. It explores — you guessed it — myths and legends from different cultures. The hosts tell the stories in YA-ish or storybook-ish way.

Art of Charm is about how one presents himself and work and personal relationships.

Hidden Brain was mentioned. If you liked that, try Radiolab. I think it sometimes tackles political issues, but most of the time the topic is psychological or scientific.

Terrible, Thanks For Asking tells real-life stories. I often find the episodes bittersweet.

Something You Should Know (NOT the more-popular Stuff You Should Know) tackles about anything. This is easy to listen to or just leave playing in the background.

retronauts - arguably the best classic gaming podast out there
easy allies podcast - mostly the old gametrailers crew talking about games
dan carlin's hardcore history - i think i've listened to his ww1 episodes like 100 times
virtually speaking - nerd talk about IT stuff

It really depends on what you are interested in If you are looking for more talk radio and interested in family topics, there is a newer podcast called Basically Parenting. They cover things like dealing with your kids and family adventures. They are a married couple with great chemistry.

For something more business related, checkout Let’s Talk Small. They discuss topics (podcast intro ideas) that impact all businesses, but they focus a lot more on smaller businesses.

Smartless - If you want to laugh constantly for an hour. It's by Jason Bateman, Sean Hays, and Will Arnet. One of them brings on a guest the others were not aware of before hand and just about every episode has been awesome. It does have ads but they are hilarious since they are all done by the 3 hosts and it's basically a 2 minute sketch comedy advertisement.

As of late I really enjoyed the Lovecraft Investigations (BBC Podcast)
Had never heard a fictional narrative podcast before but I quite enjoyed it. It's presented as a sort of "true crime" podcast where 2 investigators start looking into the mysterious disappearance of a man and slowly start uncovering weird occult stuff related to it. Each season is loosely based on a different Lovecraft story.

I got so into it I was actually looking forward to doing chores around the house (which is when I usually listen to podcasts)

I love listening to Podcasts while doing menial things; it livens up boring activities like housework, yard work, driving, etc. And you can learn so much… or just laugh and have a good time
