Pokémon Community Thread 4: "Your Portal to What's Hip and Happening in Sinnoh!"

So what changes are you hoping for Ultra Sun/Moon?

I'm pretty much just hoping for more Alolan forms.

I have a personal theory that Mega Evolution and Regional forms were created as a new way to introduce "new" Pokémon mid generation.

I want new Regional forms and new Mega forms. I would also like to see improvements for how online is handled. My biggest complaint about Sun/Moon is that they got rid of the PSS for the Festival Plaza which is a Down grade if you're like me and loves 6v6 battles against randoms.

Other then that I just want Game Freak to tell me the story they want to tell and sell me on getting these games even though I'm 99% sure I'm buying one copy anyway.

I just want there to be an easier way to battle and trade. Don't need Festival Plaza to be removed but I also want to be able to do those without entering there

Bring back PSS tbh

I feel the same way. I also expect to see sinnohan forms in the DP remakes a la ORAS megas
I'd love to see an ice Alakazam that scoops ice cream or something come from that. It would be the first ice type to have over 100 SpA and 100 Spe at the same time.

Yeah. The type that was originally one of the staple special moves doesn't even have a fast special sweeper. Closest is Mega Glalie at 120/100.

For trainers to have more than two Pokémon, that annoyed me the most in Sun and Moon as it meant battle went to quick and I saw less of my team members.

Other stuff I want but I don't expect them to put in;

-Gyms, though I feel that Island trial are still in.

-Better pacing of the story and allowing the players to explore, Sun and Moon was bad at this and had barriers preventing the players from exploring. The dumbest would be the kid on the Stoutland preventing the player from exploring the Hano Grand Resort and Hano Beach,

-Be less handholdy or at least add an option to disable it,

-Expand on Galdeon and Lusamine, I felt that both were underdeveloped in Sun and Moon

-Give the player a Type Null during the game and not post game, I want to add it to my team.

-A bigger focus on the Ultra Beast, they really didn't appear till post game in Sun and Moon.

-The Alola region to feel an more bigger and expanded from Sun and Moon as I felt that it was small in Sun and Moon.

-Bring back the bike and a proper Item finder, Tauros is a pain for one hand play and Stoutland is just slow and clunky.

-The return of challenge mode and the VS seeker.

I feel the same way. I also expect to see sinnohan forms in the DP remakes a la ORAS megas

I am currently replaying Pokémon Diamond and it could work due Mt Coronet dividing the region.

So the West side of the region could have the traditional Pokémon that we know and love but East side gave rise to a "Sinnoh" form thus making it an advance version of Shellos region form.

still sad we never got that water arcanine from that one fake leak

Same, though I am more annoyed that only gen 1 Pokémon got the Alolan form treatment.

Edit 2: BLAH!!!

Edit 3: Does the Shiny charms effect eggs you breed? Once I get threw my current play threw I want to try my hand at a couple of Shiny.

I agree with this theory, and put it forward to the idea that it's also their way to prolong the time it'll take to hit 1,000 Pokémon

It does, but it don't go in expecting a quick endeavor. Each individual Egg has a ~1/500 chance of being Shiny. Great odds, comparatively, but still extremely slim. I've hatched two Shinies and they both took over a month.

I wager that once they hit 1,000 it will be a soft reboot ala Black and White.

Personally I don't mind Form but I much prefer new Pokémon and cross gen evolution than seeing the same old Pokémon but with a new hat.

In all my years of hatching eggs I have never once gotten a shiny, though I have ran into a few shiny in the wild.

This is actually alot better then I thought. I have a Shiny charm already and I'm on the second island. I've once filled up 7 boxes of Male Nidoran in no time at all trying to get one with the propper nature, ability, and IV's back in Pokémon Y. I gave up on that Nidoran. Lol.. but the Pokémon I want Shiny of I already have a perfectly bread version of them or can Hyper Train them.

Also for competitive Pokémon Gaf

What's your take on Lycanroc Mid Day form competitively?

I have Rockruff's with all the egg moves worth having like Thunder fang, Fire Fang, and Sucker Punch. Adamant or Jolly? I'm asking for your build and how does it perform basically.

Well if they stick to gen 1 Pokémon east off Coronet for possible Sinohan forms then subatomic line(unless they don't want to give crobat a form then that would be dumb), psyduck line, onix(same thing like crobat knowing Gamefreak they'll bullshit no form for Steelix since it's gen 2), ponyta line, and machop line could use them.
Sorry for the double Post

Watch Da Birdie

I buy cakes for myself on my birthday it's not weird lots of people do it I bet
Not gonna lie, I just want to see the rest of the National Dex get their own S/M-style PokeDex entries.

I ran this in 3v3 singles:

Lycanroc @ Rockium Z (Or Sash, or Life Orb)
Ability: Sand Rush
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Stone Edge
- Accelerock
- Fire Fang

It's... alright? Recorded a few games where I swept entire teams but that was in the 1400-1500 range. Excadrill (hell, even Stoutland) does its job as a Sand Rusher so much better, though.

Damn... Jolly nature and I lose a move slot for Sword Dance because it won't hit hard enough without it.

Adamant Nature I maybe able to use the forth slot for a additional coverage move instead of Sword Dance and I lose the additional speed and it may still not hit hard enough.

Sigh... I won't be breeding for a shiny Rockruff.

On another note

Eevee is really good in game. It's better than the Larvitar I bread. I evolved it into a Jolteon and I call it My Little Pit Bull. (Not actual nickname) I've grown so attached to it, it survives hits it shouldn't and does more damage than I thought it would.

I keep having dreams that about USM info and it's weirding me out. Very odd for me to repeatedly dream about something so benign.

In other news...

I beat 50 rounds of Super Singles for the first time today. The closest I had gotten previously was 43 and most attempts failed after 30. I used...

Mimikyu @ Life Orb
Jolly; 252 Atk 252 Speed | Disguise
-Swords Dance
-Shadow Claw
-Play Rough
-Shadow Sneak

Mega Salamence @ Salamencite
Jolly; 252 Atk 252 Speed | Intimidate
-Swords Dance
-Roost
-Earthquake
-Double Edge

Tapu Lele @ Twisted Spoon
Timid; 252 Sp. Atk 252 Speed | Psychic Surge
-Moon Blast
-Psyshock
-Psychic
-Calm Mind

I originally had Tapu Koko instead of Tapu Lele because of the better type synergy on paper. It performed terribly. Lele is the superior Koko because it can survive a hit to 2HKO and Koko cannot.

The game releases in less than month and we know literally nothing about it beyond Solgaleo/Lunalaa fusions with Necrozma.

On one hand the optimist in me is hoping they decided to 180 from how they handled OR/AS and S/M's prerelease marketing where they basically made sure there were almost no surprises left in the game but they time they released

But on the other the cynic in me is wondering if the silence is because there's not that much to talk about

I think there's one of 2 reasons why we haven't gotten info yet.

Reason 1

They are pissed off with how the community reacted when Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon were announced. It was so negative that we got a defeated looking president of the Pokémon Company announcing a Switch main line game with not even titles.

Reason 2

They're nervous about releasing new info because of how bad the initial reaction was. Maybe they think every bit of info they release will receive the same amount of criticism.

Even if it's not any of these reasons I'm still surprised on how negative my reaction was. Kind of feel stupid now considering I'm getting a copy anyway, I'm now thirsty for them leaks, non story spoilers, and official info release.

Going completely silent on the game isn't going to help anything. My opinion of the game still isn't positive, but I want them win me over. Their silence worries me.
I can't imagine skipping a main series Pokemon, but if there isn't much more than what they already showed us then I guess I'm waiting for the next game :/

I looked back and BW2 seemed similar in terms of "Here's a game it's the same maybe! Here's the box legends with stuff on them! See you in a month!"-style reveals. The month after that they revealed Keldeo's Resolute form which is about the same as Movie 20 hat Pikachu which is exclusive to USUM, so that's another parallel.

I'm betting we get something similar to the Therians this month. Maybe some new Alolans or UB forms?

How long was there before we started getting the first info on B2/W2? Iirc that was announced in mostly the same way, with just Black and White Kyurem shown and nothing else.

Edit: question answered I guess lol

For such a finely tuned publicity machine, they're made a real hash of USUM. It's almost baffling how poorly they've played it so far.

To be fair, have they ever gotten such a negative reaction like they did with the announcement of Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon? I know they're a big company that can afford PR giants but even big companies can be taken off guard. They may just be thinking about the best way to go about releasing more info without causing more negative commotion in their fanbase. And there was that shit show with Pokémon Go that happened in Chicago. Granted that was on Niantic but it's still Pokémon.

I am most likely wrong though. Speculating out my ass.

Was the reaction actually that negative outside of GAF?

Damn good question that made me think about it. Outside of Gaf, some Youtube channels, and people I know in real life I don't know.

I've seen negative talk on other chats but everything I've personally seen could be dismissed as a vocal minority.

The trailer on the official channel has far more likes than dislikes, I dunno how else to tell though haha. My casual friends were just happy they didn't have to buy a Switch so soon. Overall in my circle there wasn't that much of a reaction though because they didn't give much to react to.

^^^^To be fair. The games are fine from mostly everyone I've seen bashing it. It's the reaction to it being on the 3DS exclusively and not at the very least being cross gen that is causing the most salt. Hell, I'm getting a copy and the salt is running deep in my veins still because it's not on the Switch.

Same, it just feels half baked that only a selected few got it with the rest getting shoved aside to bank.

I love Eevee, he's my second used Pokémon after Charizard though his time is nearly up as Glaceon is the only remaining eeveelutions that I have yet to use on my team.

Hopefully Eevee gets more eeveelutions in gen 8, assuming that they continue with cross gen evolution and actually give him two instead of one.

Begs the question of how much info there is to dump, I suppose.

Probably not much as it's the same Pokémon and same region.

I would expect sparse info dump here and there.

Was the reaction actually that negative outside of GAF?

A few but it's their own damn fault for hyping themselves over a rumour that no-one knew if it was true or not.

Then again anyone with half a brain would look at Game Freak past history and could tell that Ultra Sun and Moon was going to be on the 3DS purely because it made the most business sense.

I feel you. I was a believer too, if only because of how adamant Eurogamer and others were about the Stars rumor. Otherwise I wouldn't have given it a second thought knowing how GF handles things and remembering the BW2 release. So I guess for me when US/UM was announced my reaction was disappointment but also "well that's business as usual for them."

It is a bummer though because I'm really enjoying my Switch and would love Pokemon to move to it ASAP.

They haven't released anything because they've deliberately chosen not to so as to further hype when information does get released (more than likely in August at Worlds) and people are only so reactive because there was backlash and false flags for news.

Yes.

Pokémon said the 2018 VGC season is only using Sun and Moon, doesn't mention Ultra Sun and Moon.

Is this normal?
If not, that's probably more telling.

Yes.

I agree. Curious, what was the other negative backlash they recieved?

I was around for Gen 1 and 2 took a break until I came back with Gen 6. I actually bought copies of gens 3,4, and 5 but ended up giving those away and never followed Pokémon news until I became a member on Gaf.

This concerns me far more than anything else, because at the absolute least, I was expecting move tutors and moveset adjustments for basically the entire Dex. And if these are coming, as expected, why wouldn't it be the standard meta?

Makes me think USM changes will be extremely minor and cosmetic and not even movesets will change.
