arceus isn't a mainline game though. sword and shield are the last main titles and they came out well over 2 years ago.

Arceus is literally considered mainline by them.
BDSP is mainline by default due to being a remake of a mainline game.

Gold and Silver launched three years after RB; not four.
They have a very consistent 3 year cycle for generations. Nothing changed here.

But i imagine Nintendo really wants 2022 to be a 'killer' year, they need to retain people attention from the shiny new consoles with their exclusives. 2022 still has not revealed its full lineup for Switch

They delayed Diamond and Pearl from 2005 to 2006 which was a near 4 year gap and B/W was a September 2010 release which was also 4 years... We're just in an accelerated culture for consuming products dude. It hasn't always been 3 years. lol.

I was thinking they'd try to line it up with a release of a Unova Legends game, but that might be after B/W 2. 2023 or after Gen 10 makes sense.
