Pokémon Sun & Moon | Info and speculation thread

Keep in mind download sales are very important to Nintendo nowadays as well. Just because they can technically get that big doesn't make it viable

Larger sizes doesn't mean it will dissuade Nintendo from putting it on the eShop, Xenoblade Chronicles 3D, Resident Evil: Mercenaries, Bravely Default and Bravely Second have some of the largest sizes and they vary from 3-4GBs. Again, it would depend on how GF builds the second region.

Honestly I really hope that Game Freak doesn't waste gen 7 to tell Zygarde's story when it should have been told in gen 6 with gen 7 being a fresh start.

Because Pokémon company international is shit.

I am just wondering if Game Freak will even do a "Sun 2/Moon 2" version since they were clearly happy in skipping "Pokémon Z".

yeah who knows what will happen . maybe another remake lol

It could just be a post-game story at the end, similar to the one from Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire. Like what if some crazy stuff goes down between some legendaries and Zygarde wants to intervene to try and stop the mass destruction. He starts at his base and needs to scale up to his final form in order to be strong enough to stop it.

What I am curious about is what the new villian group is like. Maybe something similar to team plasma since we are dealing with legendaries with out space relations?

I agree. People who say that it would be like what happened in GSC are forgetting how much hardware constraints developers had to deal with at the time for the vision that they wanted to present. In today's time, developers would have so much more to work with that it'd be possible to do 2-regions while giving both regions enough of an identity, and a balanced level curve.

This whole idea that GF shouldn't do 2-regions because of what happened in GSC is very narrow-minded and unimaginative.

The remake still had the same problem though. Johto was unremarkable and Kanto, despite putting in the missing features, felt empty still.

Does anybody think Looker will be back for Sun/Moon? The last we've seen of him is him washing up on the shore of the Battle Resort with amnesia, and nothing in his possession but an Audinite. It seems like an odd thing to just throw into the game like that, and it doesn't really lead anywhere.

There's 0 possibility we're getting to visit Kalos in these games. As Alola is built around a completly new perspective and full sized models. They would need to rebuild the entire Kalos region to fit with the new character models, sizes, and camera, and Game Freak is definitely not going to do that.

to be fair they were never going to modify the game like that for a remake and i doubt they see the leveling issues to be as a big a deal as some seem to, i think its become more and more exaggerated because its the clear flaw in the game to everyone

its a pretty obviously weird design choice that sticks out like a sore thumb while playing but its not like its some unplayable mess like some make it out to be, i mean, we all got through it pretty okay when we were 10 years old lol

and yeah a nice fully fleshed out kanto that could stand up with red/blue would be nice, but Im not at all in agreement with that it was a mistake or poor choice or shouldnt have been done. it was awesome. and it was the first ever pokemon sequel.

I thought everyone liked HGSS?

You know, what if koala and dog aren't commons but actually some middle area mons? I mean, we actually never got commons this early in reveals.

They could just change the relative size of the player character and the overall overworld to make it fit these models as far as their new size go. The actual issue would be the need for completely new Kalos npc models and whether they'd be willing to make the post-game take such a big graphical hit, since throwing Kalos overworld models onto the Sun/Moon perspective would just make the whole tile based world design stand out in a very bad way (like the times that the camera was lowered in XY itself).

it was 1999

context is one hell of a realistic factor

It is and while I'm sure it was a great technical feat for the time, that still doesn't change that Kanto was a wholly unsatisfying experience with little to do and the overall level scaling of the game was extremely off. People initially liked it because there was initial excitement, it's almost impossible to make proper judgement based solely on immediate reaction alone.

I'm thinking this might be the case if only because of the Treehouse event. Treehouse will porbably show the first few routes and that will probably be where the bird mon and rodent mon will show up along side other Pokemon like Purrloin who was pretty early. As much as I would love to see both of the new Pokemon in action at the event I think they were put into Corocoro because they're not there and they needed an "exclusive".

I really don't think the second region in a game on the gameboy color 10 years ago being kinda barren is any sort of indication of whether or not they could pull it off today. Also it wasn't that bad. We all still loved it at the time.

It brings up the question of balance, due to levels. Unless levels reset and you can't use your same Pokémon in the new region, then the balance and progression will be all over the place.

Due to it, Johto's Elite Four didn't even reach Level 50

Yeeeeah, they basically purposefully starve you of exp for a significant portion of the game, especially in the remakes. If you switch mons up a lot and raise a full team it's pretty easy to fuck yourself over.

I could see Game Freak making new eeveelutions to tie in with the Sun/Moon motif, so Steel and Ghost like the legendaries. I'd love to see a Dragon or Bug eon though.

Yeah ghost actually would be cool.

If I could have any it would be flying and dragon.

I could def see them doing steel and ghost though.

I really disagree. Im not trying to say it didnt have these flaws I just lean less towards people being tricked by excitement or nostalgia into thinking kanto was a fun addition, and more towards these flaws not being as big a deal as everyone makes them out to be, and its still fun and exciting even with them. It could have been better. There could have been much much more. Doesnt mean it was bad.

The idea that this level imbalance is an inherent consequence of having two regions doesn't even make sense because there are games where the one region alone spans a bigger size and ends up taking you through higher levels by the end of the game than both on GSC. Level 100 is plenty of room for two regions. Especially with the way they treat level curves and balances now, which is they just give you way too much xp anyways and you figure out how you wanna challenge yourself

Johto unremarkable? Really? I can agree on empty G/S/C Kanto, but even today I believe Johto has a lot of personality

it visually looks good but it lacks a distinct personality from it other than "hahaha even more backwater than Kanto"

masuda tweeted about an interview during taiwan nationals. anyone that can read it (not sure if this is mandarin or something else) can check if there's anything useful in it?

Just skimmed. Nothing new, just talking about pokémon coming to Taiwan and China and some talk about pokémon names (they are changing many pokémon names for the chinese market) and talk about the starters. But as I said, nothing new.

There is a part in which they ask about Psyduck (or maybe golduck) mega-evo. (Maybe mistranslation)

I just woke up. WTF DID I MISS!?!?!

Fuck sleep. All the good stuff happens when I'm sleeping. Stupid brain needing rest so I could live and function.

oh ok

To be fair, they weren't going to overhaul Kanto-Johto, especially when they left FRLG how it was with RB (exception being the added postgame content). Though they fixed some of the issues where Kanto had more liveliness to the region.

That being said, my point is that just because it was poorly implemented in one game, doesn't mean that it will be in the next game. All it takes is awareness of where one can improve.

The 2nd region thing probably isn't going to happen. Though I can guess it's possible on a technical level, development time/resources are another thing entirely. I think GameFreak would rather dedicate more manpower to fleshing out Alola than to split their focus with something else like the return of Kalos.

I'm thinking there will be a Hoopa portal to Zygarde's lair in Kalos. We won't get the full region, but we will encounter Zygarde there.

Im hoping we will get a special flying move called Tornado, just between Gust/Hurricane, would be the Thunderbolt/Flamethrower/Ice Beam of flying moves. I wonder if they didnt create it because of the number of powerful special flying types, specially legendaries.
