Pokémon TCG Pocket is a hit. Appmagic estimates say it’s been earning The Pokémon Company around $3m per day over its debut weekend, and has made over $12m in just four days.
The game was released worldwide on October 30, and has topped the download charts in most major global markets. Appmagic revenue estimates suggest it is now making over $3m per day as players race to unlock everything.
Whether The Pokémon Company can maintain this pace over the long term will be a bigger test – but it is currently earning more per day than even Pokémon Go, which draws in around $1m every 24 hours.
Most of that estimated $12.1m earned to date comes from players in Japan, who account for 45% of the game’s earnings, according to Appmagic. The second biggest market by revenue is the US, which represents 25% of the revenue to date. After that it’s Hong Kong and Taiwan each on 4% and South Korea, New Zealand and France on 3% of the total spend.
The 7.5m downloads to date break down geographically with the US way ahead on 29% of that total. The second largest market by installs is Brazil with 11% of the total, with Mexico third on 6%, followed by Japan, Germany, UK and France all on around 4% of the total to date.
By platform, the iOS edition is absolutely dominant in terms of spend, accounting for $10.5m of the $12.1m earned to date. Google Play accounts for just $1.6m to date.
It’s a more even picture on downloads, with Google Play ahead on 4.2m installs, and iOS on 3.3m to date.
Appmagic also estimates revenue per download globally and among Tier 1 western and eastern markets – an indicator of how much each player is spending on average. The global RpD is $1.61, but the split between east and west is huge – in the west, the RpD for Tier 1 markets is $1.24, while for Tier 1 markets in the east, RpD is $11.93 – showing that people in markets like Japan, Hong Kong and Taiwan are spending huge amounts per player.
