No. it's a bad set. The only cards that see a little competitive play is Dragonite-ex and Pidgeot-ex.
There's a jolteon-ex/pidgeot-ex deck, but it hasn't placed in any tournaments yet that I know of.

Agreed. I was quite excited to play with the reprints after all these years, but they're pretty bad cards compared to what is out there nowadays.
I enjoy collecting them for the aesthetics but if you are looking to play, I would look elsewhere.
They really needed to give them a boost more than they did, weird choice to make a whole set that's not really competitive

Seems kind of fun personally. Magic does the same thing for $35 with 6 packs to build from. It's usually a neat way to play with cards before most of the meta. I would do Pokemon prereleases if they weren't all more than 25 miles away. I like the game, but not that much. PTGO is simply more convenient.
Speaking of which, what's the best site to find decklists from high-profile events? I tried the official site and couldn't find anything.
Speaking of the online TCG, the tins come with codes for full decks, good to grab a lot of staples. And lots of playable stuff like Volcanion ex, Hoopa ex, and Yveltal ex.

If you already know how to play, and you're just playing for fun with your gf, I'd just buy a couple of the latest themed decks.
I just bought a couple of those sets that cost $20 bucks at toysrus. It has 60 cards and says on the box they're ready for play. I would have gotten one of those sets with two decks but they didn't have those in stock. I have a mental might set and a pikachu set. I used the QR codes and played a few games online with them AND I have the physical cards to look at and play with (if I actually had someone to play with).
If you have any choice don't buy from toysrus. They are the most expensive retailer of tcg products across the board. Those theme decks go for around $12 at most other stores.

Lol, I went to Target today and the entire Pokemon shelf was empty except for some Siege Break blisters. Even Yugioh was sold out, which admittedly is what I went to buy. Holidays be crazy...

You can use unopened packs to trade for other cards within the client itself. I would do that instead of opening them.

Who/what do I trade them to? I put up a public trade from some Greninja EX but I doubt anyone would do it. It seems kind of strange to me to trade away packs, but then everyone else on the market place is only offering packs too. I hope it's not like the GTS...
Er, it's not scam. You're paying to have a fun evening with fellow players using your brand new cards. Also, if you've never played sealed formats you're really missing out.

Hmm, Sun & Moon seems like it would be a good set to try this out seeing how it's the start of a whole new cycle. Maybe I'll go if I can convince my friend to go with me.

I have a feeling this is the kind of thing that will be selling for like $50+ in a few years like the skyla ones, or at least $40 for a playable set like the hex maniac sleeves.

How the hell have I missed this thread? I've been on the Pokemon TCG hype train since October. Man I love this TCG.

I don't know if it's considered mint or if those kinds of terms are reserved for graded cards, but I sleeved it and stuck it in a toploader as soon as it came out of the booster pack.

I'm pretty sick of playing smart. Using decks and relying on other card or by using abilities, items etc was too much, so I made a stupid dumb deck. It has 16 energy in it and for one energy (if you're lucky) can do 400 damage. No need to worry about having an abiltity or losing a lot of energy since the attack only needs one fire energy. I'm liking this deck. It can one hit K.O everything in the game nearly twice over for a Wailord

Well after a month of randomly buying packs every few days here is my final collection. At this point I am calling quits and just buying the last ones I need. While it was fun at first now I am at diminishing returns. I bought 3, 3-packs and all gave me 9 rares combined. Not bad 9/9.
The only weird cards are the Braixen promos and the Magneton holo, they have the holo stars all over the card and the others don't. Full arts are ridiculously rare only ever got M charizard x and M venusaur X. The other two were from a booster box of 36 packs. Fucking Garydos kept showing up, I also have a starmie break and another holo hitmonchan, I forgot to include them. Also, surprised I never got the team rocket secret rare.

Nice! I'm also finding I'm not getting anything out of packs now, I just got my second Venusaur EX double. I still have so many commons and uncommons I need strangely enough ...

I bought 10 Powers Beyond tins today for £13 each, which is good value considering each one contains 4 booster packs, which would normally be £4 each. Plus, one of the booster packs in each one was Roaring Skies. 7 tins were Hoopa-EX, and 3 were Rayquaza-EX. I sell cards, so cheap tins where I get a guaranteed EX card (not to mention selling the empty tin) are great.
This was my haul; I'm pretty pleased. I've never seen a gold trainer card in person; only in the online game.

Got spanked by Gyarados at a league challenge last night. Thinking about building it for fun, dude got all 4 magikarp, and 1 evolved by turn 2 both times I played him. I know it'd never be as consistent if I played it though. Super budget deck too, except for Team Magma's secret base, that card is $5 for some reason. Assuming you have the staples and shaymins already it's like $20 to build. Though really trying to not buy cards at the moment with Sun + Moon right around the corner and set to shake up the meta.

Third party (Buy Box Deals) fulfilled by Amazon. Bought all three. I assumed shipping early wouldn't happen, but I have the fedex tracking number now, some seems like it will happen.
My kid has an MRI Friday morning that he is nervous about, so very glad to have a deck to give him as a reward. (He gets Poplio; I get Rowlet. Will hold Litten's deck is reserve).
Shiny cards are so much better than regular cards.

I know; I'm always disappointed if I open a pack and don't see the edge of a shiny card when skimming through them.

I'm going to a Pokemon Sun/Moon TCG event on Saturday so I'll post lots of cool stuff.
Ok, I need some help. My 5 year old finally convinced us to let him buy a the Pikachu Libre trainer kit even though he can't read yet. He is totally obsessed now and doing way better at learning the cards and playing then I would have imagined.
I want to get a better playmat that won't rip since the one in the set is paper and looks like it will tear in another few uses. I see some $25+ mats that don't have the rules/markings on them for the game, but I was really hoping for something like the play zone one in the trainer kit. Does anything like that exists?
I also want to get him some kind of storage case since this is going to balloon up really fast. Are card books the best bet? Maybe deck boxes? As long as it is pokemon themed and not super expensive I am open to ideas.
And finally, what packs/decks should he be looking at next? He doesn't really understand the more complex moves or trainer cards yet so I was hoping there were certain sets that are more basic like the trainer kit is.
Edit: Oh I saw those Sun & Moon decks at my Walmart this morning... I didn't know they weren't supposed to be out yet.
