Pokémon's ageing fanbase: What would you do in TPC's place?

Make a technically competent game, for starters. Keep features across games - build upon them, even! Build the world of Pokémon up instead of keeping it piecemeal and divided. I never want to have to play an old gen again for anything other than nostalgia.

Also, make it so IVs have no bearing on stats. Have them influence cosmetic shit like fur color or ear length or some shit.

I don't know, Pokemon is still huge with kids, not just here in Japan, but last year when I was still living in Canada, I saw many kids getting pokemon plushies and toys from Toys R Us and getting XY. I was actually amazed at that last year.

Yup, my nieces and nephews all bought X and Y when it came out as well as 3DS. They're around the age I was when Red and Blue came out, so this was their first games and they absolutely love them. My nephews are crazy about the TCG. I mean that in itself is amazing to me that kids are still nuts for Pokemon cards.

I got my nephew a Pikachu plush shortly after he was born. 4 years later he still has it and loves it, just have to get him into the games next. Was considering getting him Pokémon Typing Adventure.

He likes New Super Mario Bros U though, but doesn't quite have the dexterity to play it all on his own yet. I have to carry him while he has the fire flower. He takes all the enemies out while I carry us through the levels. :)

I don't think the series needs to change its formula or even its tone that much. But it needs to add more postgame (not bringing back the Battle Frontier was a mistake) and things like difficulty levels. And in the case of the latter, implement them properly this time.

I'm 29 and my wife 28, we both currently play Pokémon X & Y and enjoy it a lot. My wife only played Pokémon once back in the days. She finished the blue edition on GB in 1999. My first Pokémon experience was the black edition on DS, but I've just got half-way through, but enjoyed it a lot as well.

Well, it only took 14 posts.

Anyways, Pokemon is just weird. I'm in University full of 20 year old something and ORAS is insanely popular among this demographic. You couldn't talk about Pokemon in high school without getting made fun of, and yet everyone is so open once they reach this age. It's funny to see.

Hmmmm...My son 15 and his group of friends "counting his girl as well" talk about it all the time. I kind of wonder if mindcraft has made it more open to younger groups talking about games like Pokemon.

Like others have said, the young fanbase is still there. Every Pokemon game is someone's first Pokemon. I don't think they need to do anything to specifically target an older demographic. "This is not adult enough!" isn't really a complaint even among older Pokemon fans.

You know what? FUCK open-world bullshit.

There, I said it. Open-world nonsense doesn't make a better game, so keep that bullshit out.

In general, I completely agree. In this specific instance I think it could be great if handled well though.

Then again I'm not crazy about Pokemon as it is, so I'd like to see changes to mix things up and make it interesting again. Someone who is perfectly fine with the series and the way it has evovled is probably going to disagree.

You do realise that what you listed means there won't be perfect Pokémon, right?

Yes there are. If 31/0/31/0/31/0 or whatever is the maximum than that is a perfect pokemon under those restrictions.

EDIT: An additional major issue with the current IV set-up is that changing it would be tricky for forward going compatability.

I wonder if they'll ever embrace the DeviantArt crowd's wishes and offer some cutscenes for breeding segments. Viva Pinata did something like that and it worked perfectly, but with Pokemon fans and the ageing demographic I wonder if Game Freak would be willing to embrace a more adult take on that. I was thinking something along the lines of working with the body types in the Pokedex and making some animations to compliment them. For example, maybe if two humanoid Pokemon were breeding, there could be a cutscene where, for the sake of this I'll use Gardevoir in this example, one Gardevoir tenderly caresses the face of another Gardevoir, the second of the two blushing at the gesture, before they embrace (SFW, obviously) and then a heart shape contracts to veil the scene.

I think it works to appease the adult fans of the series whilst keeping it safe for the kids.

I sincerely doubt that will ever happen

I assume you're hoping it doesn't too, because you'd need to be compiling screenshots of each pairing for your fancy website. I understand that some people are against it, but it would be good for the part of the fanbase that want it. It might even convert some younger fans to our side!

Doing anything to appease DeviantArt is possibly the worst thing any company could do ever.

Like, no. The reason it works so well is because it gives you so few details kids don't even actively think about what's happening. 2 pokemon go in, an egg comes out. Simple. Clean.

I've always felt the Pokemon fanbase never know the real meaning of a rival.

I'd just really like to see a rival that actually feels like a rival again. Instead of just some chump friend who kind of fails to get anywhere.

Oras Wally.

Again, rival =/= dickhead (especially a dickhead who has no reason to be a dickhead to you because you always blow the fuck them away unless muh insecurities).

Pokemon fans have been playing the same game for 20 years, I don't see why Nintendo would be in a rush to waste money reinventing the serious when Pokemon fans have shown themselves to be happy with the status quo.

As of XY, it's mentioned by one NPC that the egg isn't even an egg, but more like a cradle...

Guessing we'll see a "Stork" Pokemon soon enough to explain the weirdness and mystery behind Breeding.
