5th gen easily has the best soundtrack. Too many great pieces.

Personally I think 5th Gen is easily the worst IMO of course and RSE is so much better even with the trumpets. I honestly theorize that those trumps are there because they work well with the GBA's sound system and the soundtrack was designed with that in mind. FR/LG sounds so much worse because of those limitations. Heck all the flourishing Gen 5 does kills it for the same reason as it all just comes out of the DS speakers as a random mess
I don't play Pokémon games past the E4 either as I just end up restarting the game again.

While I wouldn't go as far to call it boring, I will say that I wasn't quite feeling it as much as when I played Gold originally, so I think I understand where you're coming from. Still, Kanto had tons of content that I think shouldn't be missed. Some of the stuff they took out of Kanto when going from Gen 1 to Gen 2 they put back in the remake, like the Safari Zone and Viridian Forest, and I thought that was really cool.
Yeah, the music in FR/LG just feels so out of place. Hearing the R/S/E victory theme after beating trainers felt so odd.
imo Gen 3 and 5 had the best music. Coincidentally my favourite gens. Gen 5 Victory Road yalla habibi.

Yeah, I picked up on the piano in Gen 4, but it tends to blend better with the backing music. Trumpets demand to be heard. I think that's why the trumpet-shaming is so prevalent.

There were other games to play at the time, and I got tired of having to level up on weak wild Pokemon since HG/SS didn't keep the VS. Seeker from Platinum.

I was looking for that but couldn't remember the name. It sounds amazing and it surprises me that it is actually in a Pokemon game. If only X and Y had moments emotional enough that this song would be appropriate.

While it was nice they added the content that was cut out in the original, I still felt that Kanto is the reason Jotho is underdeveloped, which leaves me a little disappointed as Jotho was an interesting region.
Pokémon Amié is the closest we will get to that, assuming its returns.
All I can suggest is let your Grovyle hold the Eviolite which will boost both of it defences stats by 50% just as long you don't evolve it.
Sorry, but after I have done the post game quest there isn't much left for me to do, hence why I reset the game.
B2W2 music (actually Gen 5 music in general) was SO good that for me coming back into the franchise as a lapsed Poke-head, I couldn't believe some of the stuff I was hearing. Lacunosta Town is seriously the most charming piece ever done in the franchise. I feel so mellow every time I hear it. Virbank City is another one that's way up there. Then Dragonspiral Tower/Giant Chasm comes along and it's the most haunting thing ever. Then there's Opelucid City that comes in Yuzo Koshiro or DEM STRINGS versions. Embracing The Mission/N's Bridge is also a great example of some of the event music in the main story. Finally, Marine Tube from B2W2 just sounds so ridiculously bubbly with just enough of a hint of "under the deep blue" to make the trip through it memorable. The diversity was just immense in these games.
What's more, as someone who loves battles, these games had bar none the BEST fight themes in the franchise. Gym Leader, Gym Leader's Last Pokemon, Vs. N, Final Battle with N, Vs. Reshiram/Zekrom, Ghetis Battle B2W2, Corless Battle (THIS THIS THIS THIS SO MUCH), Rival Battle B2W2, Pokemon World Tournament Grand Finals, Elite Four Battle, Champion Iris...
Man.
In comparison, X/Y's soundtrack is a big miss for me outside of like 4 or 5 themes. (Diantha's Battle, Lysander's Battle, Successor Korrina's Battle Theme, & Anistar Town) #Ichinose4OmegaRubyAlphaSapphire
Edit: Making this post I forgot the two songs I wanted to note on most, namely Gen 5's Victory Road and Route 10. My God Route 10 is good.
