Police 'neutralized' person wearing explosive belt at Brussels Central Station

ISIS seems to be making a pretty coordinated push recently.

They are practically surrounded in Iraq, it seems to be more like desperate attempts (two in Paris and this today) than coordinated push. Luckily also seem to be rather poorly executed. Or the police got better at handling this. Most likely both.

Crap =(

That photo is crazily well-timed.

Ugh, hard to say "good" when someone has been killed no matter the reason, but I guess I'll go with "good" in this case if the reports are accurate.

There is nothing controversial about killing someone who is clearly aiming to kill other people, and killing him is the only way to make sure that doesn't happen.

More info from same source, still unconfirmed: apparently his belt malfunctioned. Military saw a guy with wires coming out of his clothing, neutralised him and then evacuated the station.

Wow.

He was aiming to kill tons of people and it was incredibly fortunate the suicide belt malfunctioned and a soldier saw wires coming out of his clothing.

This person doesn't deserve sympathy. He already made his choice and today it failed.

I assume he was on his way to a more populated area.

This is gonna keep happening during the summer isn't it. Everybody's out every evening on big streets with outside seats on restaurants and bars. And tourists walking across famous streets/bridges/squares at all times for vehicles to drive into.

The world is a shitty place at the moment.

Goddammit, I'm going by train to Belgium in a month.

Enjoy it to the fullest. Don't let these animals win.

It's shitty and sometimes scary, but what do we have left if we let fear take over? We can't just stay indoors, can we? This will keep happening.

I'm thinking that festivals will be very sensitive.

I really hope nothing ever happens on a festival. I can think of a few nightmare scenarios... They just need some good ass security. I went to Pukkelpop last year and it was the first time in ten years where they let everyone go through "metal detectors". By the end of the festival, the security just let everyone through without checking anything. It was disgusting.

You'll be fine, don't worry. In the grand scheme of things, stuff like this is extremey rare.

Good they we're able to avoid any victims. Seems like his belt malfunctioned. Police speaks of 'an explosion around a person' who was subsequently neutralised...

'god is great '

Fizz/pop

'holy fuck it's just me burning ow ow'

Bangbangbang

A fitting end for a fucking moron. Nice job police and Very lucky for the people near.

It's still unfortunate that his life came to this, even if his death was the best case scenario present. It's unlikely that this person was born an evil terrorist.

Demorgen updated the article. Apparently terrorist brought in a trolley that exploded, and that's what we see in the picture. He then tried to go to a platform and that's when he got shot.

What the hell is going on people? Terrorist attacks are like the weather now. Never should such actions be normalized as an everyday part of life. That goes for anywhere.

damn that photo is nuts

fuck ISIL

when did Daesh claim responsibility for this?

My ex's father wrote a book about militia (mostly white) groups and how they're protrayed by the media. if anyone is being normalized, it's white supremacy.

Lamenting that people seek to harm others is not apologizing.

As non native English speaker I read the definition of lamenting.

Even though you are not born one way you are made by your actions - environment corrupted him/ her, but this now is what "it" deserved.

ed: LNBL - that is true. Glad nobody was hurt.

Fuck him. He choose to do this.
Are we apologizing terrorists wanting to kill innocent people now?
Don't think he is apologizing for him, he is just saying any life lost is a shame.

In this scenario im certain everyone is happy no innocent people have died beside this bastard

I'm so glad this failed. Let's keep this streak of failures going for years to come.

Terrorist attacks should be seen as pathetic acts by desperate little men. The less we fear them the less power they have over us. But of course we should be prepared and we have to swiftly deal with anyone who even tries to perform acts of terror.

Mourn and help the victims. Forget the attacker(s).

Damn, saved by a malfunction and quick response.
Really feels as if we are at the mercy of these fucks. As I said in another thread, with Ramadan coming to an end, I'll be surprised if we make it to the end of the week without a major terror incident in Europe.

I often have wires coming out of my clothes, I should be careful if I encounter police or military in Paris if people are getting paranoid -_-' (they talked about not allowing backpacks anymore in streets, too...)

Great job from the military, but I hope they're cautious...

They had an Iranian? Ph.D candidate walking around Brussels with wires sticking out of his clothes after the airport bombings (idiots) and they didn't shoot him on sight; you'll be fine. Poor dude must have been absolutely terrified.

Nope, still not enough to deter me from going to Brussels on Thursday. Quite worried about the heat, though.

What the hell man. This is happening way to much in Europe and the UK.

Can we please get laws in place to deal with wahhabism and terror suspects on lists?

Come on stupid Governments. Your people are more important than your weapons deal

Thank goodness no one was hurt.
