Polymega & some strange announcements.

So we're familiar with this thing… the original units have been having trouble actually playing games for the N64 module properly.

They announced that all undelivered preorders will be receiving hugely upgraded hardware (I imagine this is infuriating to owners of the original hardware). Double the ram, better CPU, etc.

Also - and I don't get this one…

They've announced a Polymega Remix (on the first page) which for the life of me seems like a glorified 200 dollar CD drive that just rips ROMS to be played in their free windows 11 app (and other platforms coming soon, etc).

I was interested in this platform for a while but pricing of the original system was always too hard to personally justify.

Any thoughts from owners? Am I missing something on the "Remix" machine?

I always liked the idea, the problem is they never really delivered on it. Production problems, hardware problems, compatibility problems... I think now is too little too late. In the world full of realized FPGA and ASIC systems, official (C64 ultimate, new neogeo) and unofficial (M64, Super Station, Analogue), there really is no place for an expensive fancy emulation box in 2026. The overlap between people wanting to play original disks and not caring about emulation and wanting to spend serious money on it is razor thin.
