Poor Kojima...

The guy was barely even shown. :messenger_loudly_crying:

Maybe he should just return to making Metal Gear games, stuff that people actually want from him. :messenger_loudly_crying:

😭

Could it be that people simply outgrew / had enough of Kojima being Kojima?

He got nominated for a lot of awards. That's an honor.

There's a lot of other developers too with fresh ideas and (IMO) better games than DS2.

He's not washed, it's just stiff competition.

I haven't finished DS2, but I've loved what I played.

It's just really hard to compete with this year considering Expedition 33 and Silksong. Wasn't a good year to release, lol.

I love Death Stranding and it should have been GOTY 2019.

But his issue is that his eccentricities are no longer novel, and GOTY leans heavily into surprise success or surprising quality.

E33, Astro Bot, BG3, and many more winners were surprising in their existence, success, or quality.

Kojima would need to make a non-Kojima style game to win, really.

Personally I think it's a relief Geoff wasn't fawning over him for once. It got so cringey that I considered some of Geoffs private time was dolls of him and Hideo reenactment of the scene from Spaceballs

The blowie he got from Geoff backstage was surely enough.

DS2 was just.... more, they added ton of useless stuff to the game but essentially its the same core experience as DS1. I think game was very good but far from GOTY caliber.

Not being a commercial success really hurt the reputation of the game despite of its beauty and epic in scale. A humbling experience for Kojima. Just do his best in Physint which is back to tactical espionage action game.

I would love to know how good Death Stranding 2 is but it's only out on Playstation.
Very good game epic in scale and beautiful graphics. Allot of addictive elements like world building, deliveries and infiltrating camps and Bt areas. Story is weird but very interesting. Looks good even on base ps5.

Imagine watching the show and thinking he didn't. It's on tape, brother, he was very unhappy when E33 won for Game Direction. Storied careers often come with giant egos.

If he 'didn't care about the awards', he wouldn't have flown all the way out or attended the show. 🤷‍♂️

To be honest losing best director hurts him very much. Hopefully it will challenge him to make the game Physint great especially its a tactical espionage game. I doubt if OD will be a good game or success. I hope he abandon OD. That looks like a big risk and with the presence if hunter schaefer a biological male playing as a woman, it will be full of controversy and agenda.

Not sure what Kojima was thinking, DS2 is a direct sequel, not really anything new. Unless he was expecting Geoff to fix it so he would get the award. But then Geoff would probably be exposed as a fraud.

I wonder if Geoff was allowed to prepare him for the loss beforehand?

Be interesting to see if Kojima attends the event next year.

Doesn't look like OD is going to be out any time soon and Physnt is at least 5 years away, so there's nothing for him to come to TGA For a few years, outside of Keighly fronting his entire trip.

DS2 was both a really impressive, really well made game, but at the same time kind of a disappointment.

It really felt like Kojima played it too safe with this one, despite the mastery on display at every level (from beautiful art to sound, gameplay, direction etc..). Also the story could have been better / hit harder and the traversal was way too easy
