OMFG HOLY MOTHER OF MARY IN HEAVEN I CANT BELIEVE IT WTF WHERE ARE MY SEDATIVES AAAAHHH
As you may know, we are absolutely burning up here in Los Angeles. Is there some kind of portable AC unit I can buy for my room that DOESN'T require an open hole or vent to let the heat out? Or maybe a special/modified fan of some sort? Unfortunately my room doesn't have a window. :(

An open fridge won't work as the air it dumps heat into is the same air you're trying to cool.

At any rate, get some air tubing and pipe the exhaust somewhere... like a disliked sibling's room.

no such thing. ACs are heat exchangers, you need the hot air to be let out somewhere. yeah, you can manually create a piping and get it out there somehwere. like an oven exhaust fan piping, etc.
or you could buy one of those new vertical fans, they are damn nice.

No chance, i've already looked into such a thing. However you can take solace in the factt hat it'll cool off starting tomorrow.

Yeah, adding to the chorus of "it must vent in order to work." I've tried some exhaust-less ones and they're all utter garbage. One I tried involved putting ice water into a ladder device.. and a jumbo fan which sent air cooled by the ice into the room. It didn't cool the room, and you were breathing the most humid damp air imaginable. Gotta vent that heat out somewhere.

What about something like this:

Portable Air Cooler

Just add water.

Interesting....anyone else tried one of these? Wy it so cheap? For that price, there's gotta be a catch, no?

I didn't notice this in the description, but it looks like it only cools down your personal area 12 degrees from what it is. If you're sitting in a 90 degree room that's only going to bring you down to 78.

Maybe something like this would be more effective:

10,000 BTU portable air conditioning unit

Those things that cool by using water are called Evaporative Coolers. I was looking into getting one but found out they are only effective in places with very low humidity. Great if you live in Phoenix, worthless if you live in Los Angeles. :(

What if you used a dehumidifier and a water air cooler at the same time?

Why do I come up with this ingenious ideas only late at night?

Got one of these in my garage here in Houston. Works freakin great. :)

Port-A-Cool

Got the 16" unit with fillercart. Cost $899 though.

Works in a space up to 900 square feet.

:lol

That thing looks like you could hop on and ride along until the extension cord runs out. :lol

*buys one of thoes and buys about 5000 feet of Extension cords

Does that Sharper Image one actually work well?

The Port-A-Cool is not that bad. Blows pretty darn hard on the 3rd speed.

Its very low maintenance. Only uses about 1/4 the energy a regular A/C unit would use. Plugs into a basic 110 volt outlet and just needs water. Just a little oil in the motor occasionally and clean and dry it out good when the hot season is over. Change the filter out every few years.

You all may have seen the Port-A-Cools or equivalent on sidelines of NFL games and what not.
