Portable Age: Current pleasures?

For the past few days, I had been slogging through the bonus dungeons in Final Fantasy IV Advance, and had an absolute blast doing so. The Lunar Caves were exceptionally well designed, and the character trials were wonderful. It was nice to be able to go back to such an old, classic game and still have so much new content which didn't interfere with the core story in the original.

Doing all that really got me nostalgic for more old school RPG goodness, so last night I started up a new set of games in Final Fantasy: Dawn of Souls. I doubt I'll play the games through to completion again, I just wanted to revist them once more. They're very pick-up-and-play. Of course, I'm not playing Dawn of Souls portably -- it's sitting in my GB Player right now.

Next week will be Super Princess Peach and Generation of Chaos, and then Tales of Phantasia when that comes out.

DJ MAX FANCLUB +1!!

btw I posted a link to a 100% save file for DJ MAX if anyone is interested in it, its on gamefaqs.

Also playing Lumines on PSP. DS is in retiirement as I save my games for DS Lite and work my way through my console/movie/anime backlog.

:lol Oh man, I feel the same way... like I want to wait and play some of my newer DS games on a DS Lite, since I believe it will be a better experience overall visually and comfort-wise than on the current hardware.

DJ MAX any good? I see it has been mentioned in this thread a lot.

just playing PSP right now, DS will wait till DSlite arrives

Just started Advance Wars: Dual Strike this evening, actually. My DS has been dormant for weeks due to being swamped with school work, but I'm home for the week and decided to start on this. I've been sitting on it for two months now, having never played it. In that period, I played a fair amount of MKDS, played Nintendogs for about a month before never touching it again (Yay, $15 Canadian purchase), kept up AC:WW for quite some time before simply no longer having time, and got to around the end of Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time and then all of a sudden really did not want to finish it. Therefore, the logical progression is to move onto Advance Wars. I am guessing that this $15 Canadian purchase will be lasting quite a lot longer than Nintendogs.

:D yeah I mean look at that screen ! :lol

I refuse to play games like CoM on an original DS now. It deserves to be played on the Lite!

As for DJ Max, I think its risen to quite a few of our "must have" lists and probably tops a few lists as well. Certainly my fave PSP game right now. Heck i bought a PSP based on that game and it was worth it.

i've been playing Klonoa on gba lately - great game.. i always avoided it for some reason. wish i didn't :P

Yeah, these are fun and underrated puzzle-platformers (minus the emotional punch of the console versions... Klonoa 1, especially!).

Play this late nights in bed over the net w/ my brother 5000+ miles away.

I've been playing this and listening to the soundtrack while I blade.

Currently playing Mario and Luigi for the DS and liking it very much. The HP levels for almost all the enemies are way too high, though. Argh.

Apparenlty I'm not the only one loving it.

Still playing it regularly since end of 2005.

Great RPG, but since DJMP arrived I have little time to play other games. But will complete this within the following week.

That's it.

I've been having a blast with:

Star Soldier is a great title for shooter fans who want to play a new import shooter without having to spend a damn fortune on an import system. As far as PSP titles go, that's about it for now...

I just played Warioware Twisted for the first time in months. It is really fun for 10 minute bursts, but nothing I'd want to play for hours on end.

Currently playing on the PSP:

Tales of Eternia, picked it up yesterday so im just at the beginning. Its my first Tales game and I dig the fighting system alot. It looks nice but im going crazy when I hear the voice acting...

Lumines, nice puzzle game and I like the music but I suck at it :( Picked it up last week so..

Currently playing on the DS:

Castlevania: DoS, this game rocks.

How import-friendly is that game for someone who doesn't know a lick of japanese?

Also, is this just like the PS2 Hudson Selection version, or is it different?

Nice to see all the DJMP love! In case you somehow missed it, bow down to your new god:

No gaming at all for me lately, but I'm clearing my schedule so that I can give Age of Empires DS the undivided attention it deserves (before Tetris DS comes out).

No Japanese required. All of the menus and options are written in english... (Except the save menu, but you've only two choices: Yes and No.)

This was indeed a real surprise. I'm stuck @ 3-10 tho ;_;

Got it from playasias new years sale. First impression was, WTF are with the controls D: But now I just figured out there's an auto lockon, thats bound to improve things a little. Great fanservice tho.

DS Gaming is on hold for me until the DS Lite is released. Got plenty of DS games to play, but I just don't feel like using the older DS now. I think I'm going to sell off my white DS this week regardless if I'm able to get a DS Lite or not.

Been playing a LOT of PSP lately. Most recently:

-Street Fighter Zero 3 Double Upper: My favorite SF game gone portable, this time with not only all the features from the home release, but even more content added. This game is going to be claiming the top spot in my PSP for quite some time.

-Grand Theft Auto LCS: Getting more into the missions now; love this game!

-Initial D Street Stage: Great port from the PS2 conversion of the arcade game. Fast-paced racing action with cheesy Eurbobeat music and "commentary" from your rivals, while racing one on one down and up hills/mountains makes this game stand out from the rest. Lots of fun.

-Kinnikuman Muscle Generation: AWESOME PSP conversion of the console "Ultimate Muscle" games by wrestling fan-favorite developer AKI. TONS of character, wacky moves, commentaty, and great game play make this title worth checking out.

Need to get back to: SOCOM, Exit, Irregular Hunter X, Geki Sengoku Musou, and Infected.

Next purchase: Rockman Rockman (this thursday!), possibly Pursuit Force.

Most wanted games: Outrun 2 SP (PSP), Tekken Dark Resurrection (PSP), New Super Mario Bros. (DS)

Stopped playing Legend of Heroes last week to watch our Engineers Week contests we had at work... will get back to playing that. Other than that and a few rounds of Mario Kart DS with my friends, not much. Played Exit at the Gamers Night Groove event and got frustrated right away... tried for like 10 minutes to do a running jump in level 2 but got so fed up with the lack of response that I just gave up. I'm a pain in the ass when it comes to games and I doubt I'll be able to get over this so scratch this one off my list (which is a shame too, the game looks nice and the gameplay sounds like something I'd be into).

I tried the first one back during the PSP launch but just didn't click with me.
Just finished AC!D2, its definitely a great card game.

Now I am playing AC!D1. There are some interface and gameplay stuff which definitely improved in 2 so it's a bit difficult to get used to an inferior one. But otherwise, I like the graphics (looks better!), story, and characters more so far. AC!D2's toon-shade graphics doesn't look as appealing to me, plus the characters and story feels a bit mediocre.

If anyone has doubts about this title, start with AC!D2, it plays so much better.

Not really playing anything on my portables right now, but I just checked PSP March release list and have to say there are a ton of great PSP titles coming out next month. I can't believe how many PSP titles I'm interested in:

Generations of Chaos
Puruit Force
Samurai Warriors State of War
Syphon Filter
Daxter
Me and My Katamari (Why is this $39.99 though?)
Splinter Cell
Untold Legends 2
Metal Gear Acid 2

Between GRAW and Oblivion, I don't know how many I'll actually play and try out. But there is going to be a big PSP list for me to look into now.

Well, I've been playing Advance Wars: Dual Strike some more, but it's getting more and more frustrating. My DS has some serious speaker distortion issues that will eventually be fixed when I cash in my warranty. However, part of me really wants to wait until the Lite comes out, so I can attempt to swindle my way into one of those instead. I'm still holding onto that crazy dream.

Currently about to end the third chapter. A fresh title, but starting to be annoying what with the oftentimes unrelated evidence one needs to somehow guess when objecting. Otherwise, the characters and translation are kooky, and I like playing something different. I'm really looking forward to the chapter developed exclusively for use with the DS.

Own Circle of the Moon and Dawn of Sorrow, so lucky for me these were the two picked for the Double Pack. Currently playing Harmony of Dissonance, which despite being pretty lackluster compared to the other portable CVs (as I was warned before), is still a good solid handheld title.

Haven't touched the single player since the first week of its release when I zoomed through and completed all the modes, but I still play at least one online game ever night. It's just fun to pick-up-and-play and I haven't had any connection problems whatsoever. There always seems to be someone on somewhere in the world to play against.

190156b.jpg

Slowly getting into this. The original on DC was one of my favourite games, and World Tour is basically the same thing with a few improvements. I find it hard to play the World Tour mode here as you start off with a crappy generic character, and playing as a pro who moves quickly to playing with a clunky character you have to build up can get annoying. Could have used infrastructure support.

Fun 3D action game for the PSP. Currently at South Asia stages and have played quite a few multiplayer games. Very solid for a portable.

Can someone help me on Mission 2 of AOE DS? I can't freaking catch up to the battering ram. I don't know what I should do.

For those hoping to grab Valkyrie Profile out of Japan, heed this bit of info from Magic-Box:

Japanese retailers reported that there is a high demand of Square Enix's PSP RPG Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth, the first shipment of the game is already sold out.
Here's hoping it sells really well, and encourages more SE support.

D: I hope I preordered enough and that NCSX does get enough in. Problem here was that NCSX never says when they have preorders up D: But I did try and preorder as soon as I knew about it.

Apologies for the OT question, but what firmware rev does it require? Any chance I can play it on my 1.5 with a UMD loader?
a combination of wab pspset firmware "changer" & fastloader will work on 1.5
