Two good links to check out...

Go to Previous Elections and check out the blue & red states for the elections from 1960 - 2004. Amazing how much some elections bucked trends (Clinton, Carter) that we assume are forever ingrained into our mindset (south = hicks = republicans). Which supports my idea that Kerry lost it more so then Bush won it.

I look at 1984 and Mondale only gets one state?! I knew it was a landslide, but this bad?! How did I not notice this (even though I was ten at the time)? Same with McGovern.

On the other hand, it's just as surprising to see so many states blue for Lyndon Johnson and Clinton.

Another interesting URL is the table within this page...

I expect the Catholics (51-48%) and Protestants (58-41%) to go for Bush, but I'm surprised how much Jewish (76-24%) support Kerry got considering the Iraq thing.

The other surprising thing, is that Kerry got "Little high school (50-49%)" and "Postgraduate (55-43%)" but nothing in between. Or maybe it's not that surprising.
