Post funny Itagaki quotes!

There must be hundreds of them, the man is an infinite source of funny quotes like this one:
1UP: Did you guys think "Well maybe the average gamer isn't as good as we thought, so let's make it easy on them?"

Itagaki: That's right. In other words, there are some people who want to beat the game, even if it means being reduced to the level of a dog; people who are not afraid to shame themselves to accomplish their goals.

about Tekken 5

TI: First they put in all of these half-finished "features", then they take them right out again. Tag fights, elevation differences, walls. I don't know if it's because they're impatient, or because they lack the ability, but no matter the reason those guys are a pretty weird bunch. Any of those things would have become a bonafide feature if they took the time to do it right (laughs). Oh, and come on guys, let's quit trying to hide the prehistoric nature of the main product by tacking on some absurd "bonus game." I have been saying this for 5 years, haven't I? If you have the time to make an action-style "bonus game", why don't you create an honest-to-god action game and sell it as a standalone product? Oh, and if you're going to bother including such a "unique" form of ball play, you should do a beach volleyball game instead (laughs).

Oh, that's right, I forgot something important. You guys did do a "bonafide" action game, didn't you? What was it called again? Oh yeah, NINA: Death by Degrees.

The one about dropping nuclear bombs on Namco for speaking poorly of his characters was funny.

Itagaki: Let me tell you the real story with that. Back when the original DOA came out, Namco aired a radio commercial -- they insulted my series. As the father of DOA, I will never forget an insult to my family. I will get them back with nuclear missiles more than 100 times for that. I will never forget it.
:lol

I love Itagaki! :lol

When my Tekken friends get riled up over his comments, it makes me chuckle and observe with a smile.

I don't remember the exact quote but I remember he said he could make Virtua Fighter a better game than it is now. I lol'd at that :D

I don't remember the exact quote, but he blamed Xbox memory capacity for his failure to implement on-the-fly weapon switch on NG, then boom! a year later Capcom delivered a perfect on-the-lfy weapon switch on DMC3 on an outdated system :lol

:lol Itagaki :lol

this was hilarious the first time I saw it, love how in each of the tekkens paul is shown doing the same move

I'm not even a Tekken fan and that's just retarded. Hey, let's point and laugh at Ryu's Dragon Punch - it's the same in every game LOL! How about Bayman's back + kick = LOL!

OROFL!

What about that comment about Team Ninja maxing out the PS2, that was pretty funny.

There was also an old DC era interview in which he said DOA could never be done on-line. It's a shame Sega couldn't make with the money hats. :\

Damn, I do love these sentences from the Tekken 5 talk,

"I have been saying this for 5 years, haven't I? If you have the time to make an action-style "bonus game", why don't you create an honest-to-god action game and sell it as a standalone product? Ah, come on! That's why it's funny. It's just completely silly. He's got his comicbook grudge completely on.

Not to derail but DMC3 looks like ass compared to NG. NG is still one of the best looking games this gen.

Bitter Much?

He hates Tekken. Showing Paul doing the same move was likely 1ups doing, and I dont think that is his beef with the series.

Maxing out the PS2 is just Itagaki arrogance at its best. He also claims to have maxed out the Xbox and 360 Im sure.

and DC era online meant 56K modem. The game lags like hell on a broadband only network. Im sure the clusterfuck that would have been a fighting game on dial up would have been all kinds of ass.

I don't think he was talking about DMC3's graphics, he was talking about its gameplay.

Well he was talking about the ability to exploit a consoles memory. And slick as fuck visuals eat up system memory.

Here is an exchange from an interview he did about DOABV

Xbox Nation: Thanks. What's the exact nature of your involvement in Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball?

Itagaki: I'm not the producer of this game.

XBN: Who's the producer?

Itagaki: Me.[laughs] But really I'm the cheif planner. I'm the chief architect. Chief tuner. I'm the chief. [Itagaki abruptly gets up and walks over to the back of the room. He unsheathes a shinning, three-foot katana blade from a display case and points it directly at us.]

Itagaki: You like this?

XBN: Um, very nice. Was it true you conceived this game with former Xbox guru Seamus Blackley, and that you two originally called it "Hentai Ballet"?

Itagaki: [laughs, slapping his knee.] No, no, no, no!

XBN: So the main selling point of this game is sex?

Itagaki: No, no. The key word for DOA X is paradise.

XBN: But it's been rated an 18-and-over game in Japan. It's adult entertainment.

Itagaki: Let me tell you what entertainment is: Violence. Sex. Friendship. Death. Surprise. Betrayal. Dancing.

XBN: Is all of that in this game?

Itagaki: No! Not all of these things....

XBN: How do you classify the entertainment value of this game?

Itagaki: Several things here: First is beauty. Second is sex. Sexual content is there, right? And there's humor.

XBN: Is it true that Beach Volleyball can be played with one hand? Leaving the other hand, um, free?

Itagaki: Yes. But that's more to do with keeping the control simple. I have a 5-year old daughter. I want her to be able to play this game easily.

He said that Itagaki mentioned they couldn't do weapon switching on the fly because of the lack of memory in the Xbox, but Capcom was able to do that with DMC3 on the PS2 (and it was 2 different weapon switching, both melee and guns).

All of these quotes, and you somehow forget the best one of all
Well, the thing with that quote is that it's not really that outrageous.. it's just simply true. heh

This just in, Ninja Gaiden 2 to have instant DMC3-esque on the fly weapon switching, but you won't see Itagaki credit Capcom, nope nope nope :lol

How varied are Dante's animations when compared to Ryu's? If my memory serves me right, not very.

I have a feeling that the animations in all of Team Ninja's games are pretty damn hefty as far as memory goes.

Probably. That's why I don't get the DOA4 graphical hate, lot of animation cycles and 60 fps does take a lot more than you think...

Anyway, Dante has more animations than Ryu, but it depends on the style. Swordmaster level 3, I'd say about the same or more than Ryu. But lets say something like Royal Guard, than no.

Nope, in the last interview we did he explicitly stated he has not come close to maxing the XBox.

Where is the quote where he said he was considering helping the TTT team with the PS2 architecture to help get it out on time?

By the way, Tekken Tag's advertising in Japan busted on DOA2, which came out on the same day. The tagline was Get the best TAG. Owndizzled!

Glad he didn't "help" with that considering hwo DoA2H looks compared to TTT.

Inada: He [Itagaki] wants you to quote him accurately and exactly how he said, but he says that no matter what you write about Ninja Gaiden, he doesn't [sic] think your readers would trust what you say about Ninja Gaiden.

What does that have to do with DOA?

Some people get famous because of talent. Others get famous because of will. And still others get famous because their undeserved ego. Itagaki is such a person.

Stop arguing this. The decision for weapon switching would have been one of the first design decisions made, if he thought of it or wanted it in the game it would have been in there, and the rest of the game would have been constructed around the fact that there's more weapons, animations etc taking up memory.

He just saw how great the switching worked in DMC, knows that he needs to add that to the next Ninja Gaiden, and wants the world to think it was something he always wanted but couldn't becuase he didn't have enough ram, hah.

Switching weapons on the fly *and* being able to battle on water in Ninja Gaiden 2, going to be one hell of a game. :D

Stop arguing this.

I'm not really arguing anything as much as I am saying that this isn't a matter of just adding the feature to the completed game. That's the only time I've even touched the topic. I agree with you, for the most part.
