Post funny Itagaki quotes!

Stop arguing this. The decision for weapon switching would have been one of the first design decisions made, if he thought of it or wanted it in the game it would have been in there, and the rest of the game would have been constructed around the fact that there's more weapons, animations etc taking up memory.

He just saw how great the switching worked in DMC, knows that he needs to add that to the next Ninja Gaiden, and wants the world to think it was something he always wanted but couldn't becuase he didn't have enough ram, hah.

So fuckin true. I could imagine him pulling off the following:

Interviewer: So NG2 has on the fly weapon changing like DMC3, that should open up it's combat...

Itagaki: Uhhh, this was our idea -- I came up with it first, yeah, Capcom = suxxors, blow them up with 50,000 missles!

Interviewer: But, the actual game didn't have any....

Itagaki: Shut up, or I'll nuke you too!

hehhe, wasn't directing it to you specifically, just grabbed anything for the context quote.

Every game like DMC and NG is going to have the switching now. Makes the game tons better. NG will have it, unless he's the ultimate and keeps it out just to spite me.

Itagaki: I'm not the producer of this game.

XBN: Who's the producer?

Itagaki: Me.[laughs]

that's the best

DMC4 should take it to another level and have weapon switching and character switching on the fly. They've already started taking fighting game mechanics into the series, tag battling is the new big thing in 3D fighters. Might as well take that too. :P

To be a hater/serious for a second, I don't see the TN/Itagaki hype. He's made 1 solid game (NG), a slew of bad fighters, a T&A fanservice title, and has done nothing to set himself above and beyond any joe schmoe director out there.

That said, idiocy and all, he's a fucking blast to listen to.

Not to derail but DMC3 looks like ass compared to NG. NG is still one of the best looking games this gen.

.
While I do agree that NG is the better looking game by quite a wide margin, that comparison is a bit unfair. You've chosen a great looking NG shot (great poses with some excellent lighting) and an incredibly bad looking DMC3 shot. DMC3 looks loads better than that, though the image quality is quite terrible (up there with the worst on PS2).

He wasn't even the director of Ninja Gaiden. :lol

Not to mention you're comparing PS2 to Xbox. Honestly, what do you expect? Team DMC3 did something Itagaki&Co. claimed was impossible on Xbox, a system with much more memory than PS2. It was his version of damage control, let it go.

And, call me crazy, but I'd say DMC3 has more on screen action at any given time (What's the most enemies on screen at once in NG? 3-4?), and DMC3 has more effects (the sand, for a start).

Well, the thing with that quote is that it's not really that outrageous.. it's just simply true. heh

Damn straight. I've played a lot of awful fighting games, and sadly many of them start with Tekken.

Some people get famous because of talent. Others get famous because of will. And still others get famous because their undeserved ego. Itagaki is such a person.

QFT

Also.. idiotic quotes =/= funny quotes

I know he just likes to put on a show and stuff, but I wonder what his contemporaries really think of him? Now that would be an interesting thread...

From what i witnessed at industry events he seems friendly and cordial with people like Miyamoto, Naka, Kojima etcetera.
Behind the charade is a pretty nice guy as far as I know.
A short fuse yes but generally a friendly guy who seems fixated on feeding people(are you hungry? No. Have some food. No thanks, we ate already. Oh ok, You want some chips? No thanks)

Bow before Itagaki!

I don't remember the exact quote, but he blamed Xbox memory capacity for his failure to implement on-the-fly weapon switch on NG, then boom! a year later Capcom delivered a perfect on-the-lfy weapon switch on DMC3 on an outdated system :lol

:lol Itagaki :lol

To be fair, the amount of animation in each NG 'weapon' (i.e., moveset) is considerably larger compared to DMC3. Animation packs often take up a whole MB. When you've got all those hi res textures and environmental features between loads, the easiest way to get round it is to load smaller areas at a time.

Xbox has a hard drive which makes it possible to cache a much much bigger chunk of data into it.

Switching weapons on the fly will be amazing. Oh man the game is going to be fast.

Hope it runs smoothly 60fps.

I wish Mielke would tell us what the Ayane and Kasumi game is. He is the only person outside of Tecmo who knows.
