Ack, ok this is hair sacrilege. Guys, please stop cutting your long hair! Screw Grandma! She'll live. Seriously. Just tidy it up and smile nice. It's your hair, not hers. And remember if you have long hair wash it and brush it every day or it's just gross.

Guys with short hair just do not do it for me. I don't like it too terribly long but anything above the shoulders and beyond 2 inches is sexy!
 
What does a dead guy have to do with anything? Unless it's being done to honor the deceased because they really would have wanted it cut short then I don't see the point. And it sounds like it's about grandma and she's still kicking. Personally if someone asked me to cut off my long locks I'd be a bit put out. It's my hair, not theirs. And it's not like his hair is so long it's hippyish or even distasteful by conservative standards.

I'm sorry to hear about his loss as well, but I fail to see how the two relate.

Perhaps it's his grandpa, yeah? His grandmother does certainly matter then, right? And him going to the funeral would certainly portray, in my mind, that he wants to honor the deceased.

In a couple of years, when you grow a little bigger, you can have my hand-me-downs. We'll be like brothers :)

No, not necessarily. What my grandparents - hell even my parents - want for me vastly differ. If he's doing it for the deceased *because* it's what they wanted or would have liked then kudos to him. That's a very nice way of honoring them.

Otherwise, I still think he should do what he wants. In this case, only his and the deceased's opinions and desires matter, and not even equally. It's not like he's showing up in drag just to embarass his family and/or disrespect the dead. He has a right to be himself within normal cultural standards and the last time I checked a hairstyle such as that was not considered innapropriate for a funeral.

And yes attending the funeral is a way to honor the deceased and be supportive of those left behind. That's how people normally show respect.
