Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance is a fantastic film. Darkly hilarious.

The US remake of Oldboy is actually good too I thought, if you haven't seen that.

I'll have to check it out. I admit that I wrote it off as Spike Lee's movies have never clicked with me.

Can I add more? I've gravely wronged Chow Yun-fat

  • The Killer (Possibly the worst suit in cinema history)
  • Hard Boiled
  • Replacement Killers

No Country for Old Men is amazing and I usually hate movies or stories that leave you feeling hollow.

For some blasphemy, Spirited away ranks up there with movies like Blade Runner that have heaps of praise and that I've tried to sit down and watch countless times and just can't bring myself to finish.

I didn't even realise Spike Lee directed it. Doesn't really feel like the Spike Lee joints that I've seen - which tend to have be drama or comedies with a prominent political message. Oldboy and Inside Man are pretty straight thrillers and are good films, in my opinion.

Blade Runner literally put me to sleep a handful of times before I could finish. I actually kind of enjoy it as a very late night comfort movie now lol . But it does have this detached, non-invovled feel about it that makes it easy to lose engagement.

I kind of hate science fiction so that doesn't help. Oddly enough I made it through the sequel with no problems. Thank you, Moviepass. lol

tastes change with time but for now some of my favorites are
Snatch
Lock Stock and 2 smocking barrels
Pulp fiction
Alien and Aliens
inglorious basterds
Blade Runner (both of them)
Mad max (the new one)
oldboy
Train to Busan
John Wick trilogy
Matrix 1
Blade ( really underrated imo )

Nice try, Resetera
The title on the poster picture in the OP says "The friend (male) of my friend (female)". Unless something funky happens in that movie, I don't know how the hell someone thought that was an appropriate translation.

I don't even know where to begin. i'm just looking at some of my blu rays...and in no order:

Titanic
Alien
Eternal Sunshine
Midsommar
The Witch
The Blackcoat's Daughter
Mad Max Fury Road
Pulp Fiction
LOTR Trilogy
Blade Runner 2049

Another 10 in no order:

Let The Right One In
The Lighthouse
Hereditary
2001 A Space Odyssey
Baby Driver
Rosemary's Baby
The Shining
Turbo Kid
Blade Runner

The Departed
Saving Private Ryan
Interstellar
Memento
Rush Hour 2
Blade Runner 2049
Inception
Goodfellas
Shutter Island
Spaceballs
Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo
Spiderman into the Spider verse

I'd throw my favourite comedy a Serbian Movie somewhere too Kappa

In no order, except Twin Peaks is number one.

Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me
I must've seen it over 50 times already and it still feels everytime I see it there's something new to think about. If some movie tells something real about human experience it's this one.

Uuno Turhapuro
Finnish comedy from the 70's. A bit of plot in the beginning and in the end of the movie but everything in between is plotless fun stuff about a guy who avoids work as much as he can.

City of the Living Dead
Lucio Fulci's best film. Zombie Flesh Eaters is better as a zombie movie, but this has a mood like nothing else.

Casualties of War
The first movie I remember crying when I saw it. I was 12 then and it's still just as great.

Cube
The ultimate high concept movie.

Prince of Darkness
John Carpenter's best film. Insane and semi-stupid idea made with full confidence which changes the semi-stupid idea into something amazing and believable. Haunting mood with a great sense of space and amazing soundtrack.

Back to the Future 1-3
I lump these all together. My favorite changes constantly. The best time travel movies that have made in such a way that makes them always entertaining to watch no matter how many times I've seen them.

The Incident / El Incidente
Fantastic movie where one group of people find themselves going through endlessly looping stairs and another group going through endlessly looping road. It turns into a movie that has a view into psychology and philosophy no other movie quite has.

Through the Looking Glass
A porn film where the point is not really to titillate the viewers. It was funded by a Christian church in the 70's. It's about the dangers of incest, and it has one of the most interesting depictions of Hell in it with people fucking dry sandhills. In one of the movie's scenes we see a ghost of the main character's father inserting fingers in her vagina and we see the POV of those fingers entering deeper and deeper into her shot with some gyno camera. Very haunting and disturbing stuff.

It Follows
I had a similar idea for a script and started to write it. I don't have to do that anymore since it has now been made and it's much better I ever would've been able to do.
No other movie makes you look at the distance in the shots and see if there's anything creeping towards the characters as much as this one does.

My list, in no order except #1:

1: Aliens (1986)
2: Star Wars (1977) / The Empire Strikes Back (1980) / Return Of The Jedi (1983)
3: The Terminator (1984) / Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991)
4: Raiders Of The Lost Ark (1981) / The Last Crusade (1989)
5: Predator (1987)
6: Top Gun (1986)
7: The Rock (1996)
8: The 'burbs (1989)
9: Starship Troopers (1997)
10: Navy SEALs (1990)

Jesus 10? I could do a top 100 easier than narrowing it down to just 10. So I'll just randomly pick some of my favorites that come to mind.

Return of the living dead.

Raiders of the lost ark.

Switchblade sisters.

Master of the flying guillotine.

Dressed to kill.

The empire strikes back.

Arsenic and old lace.

The title on the poster picture in the OP says "The friend (male) of my friend (female)". Unless something funky happens in that movie, I don't know how the hell someone thought that was an appropriate translation.

Yeah I've read before about the title being buthered. Apparently it's happened to a few of Rohmer's films.

There seem to be two English translated titles for the film, "Boyfriends & Girlfriends", & "My Girlfriend's Boyfriend", and the latter is more specific to what happens in the film so I tend to use that.

Actually just ironed out my top 100

My Top 10 list is kind of weird since a good chunk of them are movies I can watch endlessly or movies that my circle of friends quote on the regular. So they aren't necessarily the best movies of the 100.

The original six Star Wars movies are exempt from my top 100 since they would just end up taking all the top spots.

Not in any order:

Gorgeous
Black Belt Jones
Jawbreaker
Suspiria
Rocky II
My Girl
Spirited Away
The Blues Brothers
12 Angry Men
Dawn of the Dead
